Born in 1970 in East Germany and former member of the Barracked Troops of the Minstry of the Interior. I never ever saw one user carrying the radio other than on the shoulder strap. But I would agree with your explanation for the connectivity with the belt strap. And unfortunately I dont remember about the purpose of the two round buttons below the transmitting button, but I suppose one was for an preset call signal.
Many thanks for commenting! I've never seen a photo of the belt clip in use with one of these radios either but have been advised that is what the D ring is for so wanted to include it.
I have long been confused by the use of these radios by the Grenztruppen. There radios will net with civilian government organizations, but not with the radios used with the NVA which are on a much lower frequency. I wondered if the use of UFT radios reflects a cooperation between the Volkspolitzi and the Grenztruppen in some cases? I have seen photos of the Grenztruppen using standard military radios as well though. Any thoughts on this?
