On a fairly warm autumn day, Penn Rail Videos set out to capture the East Penn Railroad's local freight that runs up to Emmaus Junction and return. Luck would be on our side, as we were informed that they were in fact running north to Emmaus to bring back 8 loaded boxcars. We'll watch the ex-CR GP10 #7554 (built as a GP9 for New York Central) shuffle some cars around Brown Printing, then we'll move into East Greenville and from there follow the train on its northward journey. Once picking up cars in Emmaus, we'll follow the train back south. A feature location on this railroad is the Dillingersville tunnel, which is one of eight the Reading Railroad had on its entire system. If you like the sound of first generation diesels, then this video is the perfect combination, with 7554s Leslie A-200 "blat" horn on the short hood.

I'm late to the party but thanks for this great video. The sound quality is excellent. I cannot get enough of the EMD non-turbocharged prime mover sounds.

I think that's a B-60 Baggage Car. They regularly ran in New York to FL passenger trains up until the early 1970's.

Finding Penn Rail this morning is like Christmas daybreak at seven years of age. Loved (At my age this is love) this video. You's guys are great. The settings, photography, wildlife (squirrel, dogs) and especially that old loud but not in your face horn. Took me nearly two hours to watch, look at comments look up history and maps on this 29 minute video. If I find an address I''ll send a donation.

The baggage car is probably used as a spacer car so that the locomotive does not have to enter the factory and smell up the place with diesel fumes.

There must be individual valves for the horns because the first one sounds like a Nathan m3 and they don't blow together.

That's not an A-200, it has an E-2. About the ditch lights, they're only needed if you wish to run over crossings exceeding 20 mph, but once the crossing has been cleared by the locomotive, it can proceed at track speed.

They apparently swap it around a lot, I've seen pictures of it with an E-2 before. I know the difference though, I have an A-200. I usually look for the locking bolt at the top of the horn, but man this one sounds dull, too. But if you look at it from the side (at 14:59 and other spots) it has a very E-2 like profile.

That was fun, I can't believe I watched the whole thing! As a kid in high school, I used to spend Sunday afternoon hanging with a crew who switched cars between the Madison Div and the Milwaukee Division. They would let me ride the caboose, those days are over.

@cnjgp7
@cnjgp7 13 лет назад
@SR6900 Right... it's longer than an A-200 and the throat is too small to be an A-200. Definitely an E-2 in this vid. I've also seen the A-200 on this engine, but not today. :)
