These honor walks are hard to watch, but what a wonderful way to let the family know how much their decisions are appreciated! My husband is a kidney transplant patient and was on dialysis for 6 years! His transplant is still working 12 years. What a blessing for us, but it is someone else’s worst day! But we have written letters to the donors mom to let her know how grateful we are to her for making the decision to donate her only son’s organs. She is a hero!

I learned about Honor Walks in September of 2020, when my sister passed and her husband honored her decision to be a donor. It was a wonderful thing.

Be a Hero Donate Life !!!! My wife Christine Antoneo Smith chose to and did December 23 rd 2015 after a massive pulmonary embolism took her life. Her selfless gift saved a 3 week old baby boys life.

Ive been watching these honor walks lately and it is heartwrenching. I cant even watch someone i dont even know and im a mess. I could never do this with a family member. How honorable of these kids and adults that do this. God Bless them all. Staff included.

My dad needed a heart transplant a few years ago due to severe heart failure. Unfortunately, a heart was not found in time and my dad didn’t survive. However, only his heart was unusable and he decided to donate every bit he could to save others.. we as a family went from having only one mission: trying to ensure my dad lived. And when the mission failed our new mission was to ensure my dad was reason other people get to. It was a huge pill to swallow, but ultimately my dad saved several lives by donating everything he possibly could. My dad always said “ if someone isn’t able save me, I want to make sure i save someone else”... god bless donors and their families. My heart is with you all ❤️

I'm very sorry for your loss but am glad I saw your comment. I am 54 and signed up to be an organ donor a few months ago when the time comes. But I have been wondering if I would be too old to help anyone else. Your dad answered my question. Thank you.

I think this is a beautiful idea and must be so hard for the family. A big thanks to all who have and will donate. My thoughts are that my organs might as well go to someone who needs them as I don't need them anymore and I have informed all my family if they can be used donate them.

My brother's heart came from a 19 year old man who died in a motorcycle accident. After the successful surgery my mother went to the young man's funeral. I was unable to attend but I created a giant bouquet of flowers from my gardens and wrote a thank-you card. A year later the man's mother visited my brother and he let her listen to her son's heart beating. Then we visited his grave and discovered the family didn't have money for a head stone so we pooled our resources and got him one with his portrait engraved on the front of the polished black granite slab. A lot of the families of the people who received organ donations in that hospital wanted a plaque with names inscribed of those who donated organs. It took ten years but they finally convinced the hospital to do that. Not enough is done to thank the families whose loved ones saved lives. Perhaps if more knew how much it is appreciated, more will sign up to be a donor. I checked the donor box on my driver's license the day I found out my brother needed a new heart. I went right to the DMV and got it changed that day.

This is such a good gesture, grieving family's making this decision, I can so relate to this, my niece's life was saved by a donor who gave a kidney, I'm a big advocate for donor organisations, and the good and loving work they do ,my niece had a good few years but sadly her kidney is no longer functioning and she needs another transplant, all the ups and downs is heartbreaking, but we still have hope for yet another miracle, in my country this is not allowed, but seeing the benefits makes me think that donors don't always get the thanks that they deserve, to all of u great job , we need people like u

In 1984 my brother died at home. His death was considered 'unattended', so we decided to see if they could take his skin. Our mom worked at a blood bank that had just opened a tissue bank. Mom spoke with the pathologist who made it happen. Because mom was a coworker, the doctor told her a week or so later that my brothers’ tissue went to two babies who were burn victims. Per the information below, a single organ donor may save up to eight people and a single tissue donor may enhance the lives of up to 50 people: Organs that can be donated for transplant: Heart, Lungs, Liver, Kidneys, Pancreas, Intestines. Tissue that can be donated for transplant: Corneas, Bone/tendon, Vein/artery, Heart valves, Skin .

Didn't know such an honor was granted for organ donors. So, poignant and touching. Parents of this blessed child are beautiful souls. At such a difficult time to think of others, ease their suffering, is beyond comparison. God bless this child. Peace be with the family.

I was educated today. Didn’t know such a thing as an “honor walk” existed. The unselfishness of a family donating organs of a loved one is truly remarkable in a very selfish world. Fantastic tribute.

Beautiful. And God bless...truly the greatest gift we can give at our end at any age. It’s also remarkable how 99% of the staff is overweight. I guess I guess I notice because I have the same issue but it makes you wonder why Americans have this problem.

My daughter is a Dr of Nursing Practice and escorts and cares for brain dead patients. She talks with the family about donating organs and prepares them for the process to come. Every teaching hospital does organ donation. Families can withdraw care or donate. Once the brain “dies”, organs can not continue to work. Oxygen and blood must be pumped thru the body to keep the organs alive so they are viable. During this time, Transplant nurses have been working to find where the organs are needed and match them to patients. The part you are watching is the patient ready to have the organs harvested. They are already dead but their bodies are kept alive on machines. The staff rolls them down to the operation suite. The family and staff have their goodbyes. They are taken into the suite. Staff removes the viable organs and prepares them for their destination. Time is of the essence.
