Ed Friedland - The Bass Whisperer takes a look at the Eastwood Sidejack VI, a six-string bass in the style of the Fender Bass VI or Danelectro Bass VI.
Sorry, I'm not a video professional. One guy tells me to stop using cross fades, now someone tells me not to transition through black. Guess what? I don't know what I'm doing. My work is about the content, and while I strive to present it with good audio and video quality, I was never trained, or have studied film making. So... if my transitions bug you... sorry. If you want the content, you'll just have to deal with it.
Thanks, Ed! Add this to the list of gear that I'll be buying based strictly on your demos. And thanks for providing us Bass VI enthusiasts with more ammo in the "this is/not a bass" debate.
I am so happy that you are doing a 30" guitar/ bass. I just got my Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI, I love it; I need to learn more guiar and bass to play it properly or at all and I am trying. Thank you for doing these videos.
What an excellent video - thank you for making it - very good instruction video, gets right to the point of what the guitar is all about - after your demonstration - I want one!
Thanks. I suspect these instruments mostly appeal to guitarists which is why the demos are all wheedle-y wheedle-y. This thing can chuck out the bass too!
Fantastic video. I have a Squier VI and most of the videos I've seen talk about its use as a bass but not much about it's versatility for using it as a guitar as well. I have a Boss RC-30 looper and my VI lets me lay down both guitar and bass riffs without switching instruments (I just use an A/B switch to change amps).
Just got a Harley Benton bass VI which is a knock off of the Fender but without the whammy bar. I would love a Fender or even the Squire version but the Harley was a bargain @ £160. Great fun to play. I love the thing. Sunburst with block inlays. Looks the part & plays great!
Nice video but why do some complain about bridge pickups in these types of basses? That sound at 3:26 is awesome if you want that Jaco or Roundabout type tone. Very much like a Jazz bridge pickup. Its very useable.
Not meant to be negative. Just trying to be constructive. Modern video editing favors doing hard cuts without any transition. However, I LOVE the content so I will "put up" with whatever you give us. THANKS!
Hi, I've been testing a few Bass VI lately including this. I liked the Eastwood 'vintage voice', but I've found the Fender Pawn Shop clearer and more versatile. The Japanese Fender reissue is amazing (but really expensive) with an incredible range of voices, while the Schechter Ultra VI offers a wide range, a great sound, for half the price of the Japanese Fender. I would like to try and compare the Squier Bass VI, showing same switches and pickups layout of the Japanese Fender, for a tiny price
Cool Bass, Ed! I've been looking into trying one of these. If you've tried them, how would you compare them to the recent Fender re-entries into the category? Would also be cool to see a NS/Stick bass. Long shot but who knows!
It's a baritone...right? To me it's the same as an old Fender VI. Jack Bruce, John Lennon...lot's of guys used them in the 60s. I have a Squire RI of the original. Horrible bridge, but there's a British company that makes an awesome replacement, then you've got a great instrument. Very versatile. I've seen the black with gold hardware version of this one you're playing. It's absolutely gorgeous. Run through an old Fender Bassman hear: surf and spaghetti western city, baby!
