I think what I liked most about this video was the set up showing how each light played a part in the final outcome. The three photos side by side - showing the effects of layering the lights really helped drive home the point. Thanks for a clear and easy to follow explanation.
i never leave comments, but i love this video i been taking pictures for 6 months and this video will help me grow so much. one thing i think i miss is the power levels on the lights. like 1/16 1/32 to see how much power you was putting out on backdrop and subject
That's definitely the video I needed today, I have my first solo studio shoot and I want to use gels to my background lights. Can't wait to see how it goes. Thanks Eli
Love the photo my friend and the tips. I also love the Nikon S 24-120 f4 for the same reason you love the 24-105 for Canon, so versatile to only have one lens and I can get full body to tight head shots.
Great learning experience. I have an upcoming shoot and I wanted to learn a bit about using gels with strobes. Again, truly a great learning experience!! Thank you!!😀
Thanks so much for sharing this. Exactly what I'm looking for, as I'm trying to incorporate this into my work. I'm putting it to use soon definitely . Meanwhile. I need a tutorial and dark skin. If you are close, I don't mind coming to be your model. Lol
Great info as always. But being new to the strobe and portrait shooting style, when setting the butterfly lighting with the 2 strobes, is either or both feathered or is the center of the soft box and strobe point directly at the models? Thats something I never see much about from people on whether it is feathered or not. Thanks for the great videos and thank you
Glad I got found your site! Wealth of knowledge! I have an R5, speedlights and now trying to get decent at portraits. Looking into a strobe. Westcott Rapid Box and the 400 strobe with some gels?
Hey Bill I would recommend the FJ400 or the FJ200! They're actually having a Black Friday sale right now! FJ200 - tinyurl.com/n44k8rv9 2 Light Backpack Kit - tinyurl.com/yb86vxaa FJ400 & Rapid Box Backpack Kit - tinyurl.com/342udnh3 FJ200 & Rapid Box Backpack Kit - tinyurl.com/2cd86kdt FJ400 & Rapid Box 2 Light Location Kit - tinyurl.com/3z6vptb3
I’ve recently bought some FJ400 and FJ200’s with various modifiers to play with at home. When you’re plugging in settings what technique are you using to get the right power output on the strobes? When using the fill light do you remove that catch light in the eye or do you keep both key and fill catch lights in the eyes?
What is the difference between a standard Westcott umbrella used for lightning and a Deep Umbrella besides the fact that one umbrella has more depth than the other. Thanks!
Would you shoot with the Adoram 400 or 600 or the Wescott 400? Which is better for eco system. The gels are nice but my Old Elinchrom lights i have to duck tape large sheets. Still no solution for gels.
