Thank you for making such a detailed tutorial. I have a branch on my rose tree which is very healthy and tall but it's out of proportion to the rest of the plant. Instead of cutting it I want to root it with this technique. I have rooting powder instead of rooting gel. I'm concerned powder won't stick the same way gel does. Does powder work just as well? Could I make my own gel from the powder by mixing it with honey, will that work?
@marcelinanoss8825

got to be careful with honey as it also attracts other sugar craving insects. It serves as an antifugal more than a rooting agent. the gel is the way to go,, Clonex gel is #1.

Hello Marcelina! Wonderful video. I was just wondering if it's okay to start the air layering process on my rose tree roses in mid July? Also, how many stems is it safe to air layer on one rose tree at the same time? If I air layered in July, would I have to wait until the spring to cut the stems from the mother tree?
@marcelinanoss8825
@marcelinanoss8825 Год назад
yes you can airlayer now, just make sure its on a stem that doesnt have any flowering going on. If flowers or buds are on the stem you want to airlayer, remove them as they draw too much energy and not enough for rooting.

Can I air layer the Roses now as they came out from winter dormancy and having new leaves sprouting? Or should I wait until the first flush of blooms ? Please advice. ❤
@marcelinanoss8825
@marcelinanoss8825 4 месяца назад
you will want to wait until after the first bloom has been spent. This will ensure the hormone Auxin is at its peak in the stem. remove the flower and use the last 6 to 8 inches of the cutting right below the node. This is your best time to collect cuttings for propagation, good luck!

How many airlayering can be done on one stem. Can we do three or more simultaneously on same stem which is over 5/6 feet long and at a gap of 2 feet each. Another clarification, in roses, airlayering does not work on overgrown grafted variety. Tried number of times but it did not work but on local variety which grows from roots with out grafting it works very well. Is it so with you too.
@marcelinanoss8825
@marcelinanoss8825 3 года назад
YOU CAN ONLY DO ONE air-layer per stem. Once you cut and remove the cambium from the stem it will not allow the hormones to flow to the lower cuttings and the stem may die off. As for overgrown stems, they have gotten too "woody". You will want to find the ideal stem thickness which is first, on a stem that just finished blooming and is no longer soft stemmed, but not hard wood yet. The thickness should be no bigger than a pencil.
@pandayravi8724
@pandayravi8724 2 года назад
Ms. @@marcelinanoss8825 ... Pranaams 🙏 from the other end of the world😊 ... yes you're absolutely correct that no more than one air layering can be performed successfully on one stem as the cambium layer needs to be removed completely . One small trick maybe adopted to circumvent this limitation. Instead of making circular cuts and removing the cambium, just make tapered cuts in the branch starting from the lower portion and towards up. While making the cuts keep your scalpel or grafting knife at a shallow angle as if trying to skin the bark ... but slightly thicker , cutting into the woody portion and travel upwards about 2 to 4 inches such that you end up semi sliced wedge of about 40% thickness of the branch. All the while make sure to preserve the xylem and phloem. Take a small diameter plastic bottle with top half removed or a juice/milkshake cup , fill with moist Cocopeat and insert into the wedge such that the sliced part of stem is firmly embedded in the media. Use cable ties or strings to secure it with the stem . Cover the whole media container completely with an aluminium foil or a black plastic sheet to speedup the root growth. Repeat the process further up say after 3 feet and again... This should work well with plants with woody stems and thickish barks such as hibiscus and many other fruit trees.... The idea is to start closer to the main stem and progress on thickish healthy branch in order to obtain multiple air layered sections. Water layering may also be experimented with by replacing the media with water. It'll be a good idea to apply rooting hormone in and around the cut wedges of the branch. The whole logic is based around to keep the hormones flowing via the intact half cross section of the branch while the sliced part produces the roots. This may overcome the limitation of one air layering per branch. Hope you'll l give it a try and come up with a positive outcome. 🙏🙏🙏

most likely the stem was infected before you even did the cutting, If there is, you accelerate the disease about the cut. Also, you may have no sterilized your cutting instruments properly and allowed a disease to enter the plant. There is no other reason other than those 2 points of interest, The medium you use isnt as important for airlayering unless you are referring to planting the propagated plant after you separate it from the Mother plant. I have found success in 90%of the time by sprinkling Mychorrizae on the roots during the transplant process. Great stuff!! Get it and let me know how you do.

yes you can ,, very easily but you want to make sure the branch is at least the thickness of a pencil. Allow it more time as an older plant doesnt have the same energy as a younger plant,, May take at least 8 weeks to root out.
