Dear Sherrill, I think a rug hook could be used to help thread casings. It could catch on the safety pin and then threaded using the handle to gather and pull. This backpack idea is ideal for little ones who must tote workbooks, folders, and papers between school and home. Backpacks are big, bulky, expensive with too many zips snd pockets for small kids. I love your channel too! 🥰

Your instructions were very clear. It sounded like you were very concern about if people would be able to put the straps in. If people follow your instructions there would no be a problem. To insert the second strap was not clear because you stop explaining the process and you got the finished bag you used for a sample demonstration. I think the proses of the second strap is very important.

This is my tip when you want to stop stitching at some point. I put 2 red-headed pins together where I want to stop. Even if you don’t have multi-colored pins, put 2 together as a reminder to stop. Too often I got into my sewing and went past the stopping point. This has helped me immensely.

F.I.N.A.L.L.Y!!! In the 3 yrs I've been struggling to learn to sew....and I mean struggling I have not been able to successfully figure out how to cut fabric right in an efficient way. How hard can it be....something wrong with me? Oh the frustration (I am a bit of a slow learner but I do learn things) I've watched many many vids on cutting but it's like you added the missing pieces that made me get it. No one at least that I've seen out all I've watched did that zero line. And I would turn the fabric. Anyway this is awesome, perfect and I saved. Love all your colorful pretties! The 1st thing I ever made was a simple place mat that you demo'ed that I use under my sewing machine so it doesn't jar. Your easy simple written out instructions is what got me hooked on your teaching method for hard to learn slow pokes like me haha. Tfs this!

I still use my old metal machine from the 70's with the thread standing vertically. Recently I bought a new machine and the thread lays horizontally. Every thread I buy has a notch which seems to frequently catch the thread as it flows off. I try to file down the rough spot. This was never an issue with the machine that holds the thread vertically. Does this drive anyone else crazy?
@TheSewingRoomChannel
@TheSewingRoomChannel 3 года назад
Hi Phxgidget. Your sewing machine should have a round disk that you insert next to the end of the spool. This disk prevents the thread from catching on the spool. Stay safe. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.
@phxgidget
@phxgidget 3 года назад
@@TheSewingRoomChannel Thanks for answering, but I have the round disk up against the thread & still catches on a sharp notch of the spool. Drives me crazy until I file down the edge.

Would using a bias tape maker tool be easier than trying to iron those strips?
@Fg4e
@Fg4e 3 года назад
Yes, I have seen people do that. You just press the fabric as it comes out of the tool. Make sure it's a double fold bias, not just a single. That way ur raw edges are folded inside. :) If you struggle with this you can always buy a package of double fold bias tape and sew closed or some cording that is sturdy yet narrow enough to pass through your casing! :)

What us the size for kids 4 to 10?
@TheSewingRoomChannel
@TheSewingRoomChannel 2 года назад
Hi Katherine. For a 4 to 7 year old you might want to take 6" off of the length and 3" off the width. Then stitch it together as demonstrated in the video. This measurements used in the video will probably be okay for 8 years and up. Adjust the length of the straps by placing a safety pin to hold the strap ends together. Have them try it on and adjust the length before stitching the ends together. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing. 😍
