I am just learning to paint and I am using acrylics but I definitely lost a few years off my life today. I feel as if deep down my soul cracked a little lol. Everyone from Bob ROSS to Kevin here makes it look so simple but I can’t even put paint on my canvas and have it move or spread smoothly. I say lol but really it’s tears many many tears. I have always had an appreciation for art and my family is full of artistic talent from paint to sculpture but I was only given the gift of appreciation 🥺. I truly want to succeed but I am the laughing stock right now lol. I will keep watching and trying to do and hopefully one day I can have a canvas that I am proud of. Oh no! It sounds like instead of creating art, you're competing with yourself, trying to live up to your family's artistic expectations that are probably unreal and imagined. I just did my first three paintings and after showing people and getting compliments and praise (because people are nice, not because my art is amazing), it took the fun out of it. Now people expect my art to actually be pretty good and it lost some of the magic that I felt before sharing it. Try it again, but relax, because painting is about imperfections, a perfect painting looks cartoonish. Let those imperfections happen, stop expecting a perfect painting, just create. Make art for you and then it doesn't matter what it looks like when it's finished. Its about creating, not competing. Sending love and positivity. You are enough. Painting is great for your brain and for your soul, do it for those two things, not for the finished product and it will be an amazing experience everytime

Hey Kevin, I think you did a particularly good job on the clouds this time, really love the way they pop at the sides. Really gives the painting an extra layer to look at.
Fantastic lesson! I appreciate how you talk your way through your thought process and point out mistakes. Makes it real for all of us. It was very helpful to hear the tips as to the differences in blending and layering in both mediums. I now paint in both acrylic and oil so your tips make so much more sense to me. BTW, I love your son's first painting! How fun to see his first creation!

Yeah I know that doing an instruction with acrylic paint must be difficult because of the fast drying! Excellent job. I like how the thick body acrylic paint can cover light over dark if I want to change something.
Amazing painting and done with acrylics this time :) Im struggling with acrylics alot to get smooth edges or put more details but its hard like hell, very helpfull lesson. Im thinking about moving to oils but dont know why im a little afraid of them. Need to try them.

Kevin do you use heavy body or soft body acrylics. I recently got liquitex heavy body paint set and honestly ive never used acrylics before so im new to the medium do you have some tips for working with heavy body
That's a couple times now I see an artist misting the canvas. If you don't mind my saying, it's better to mist the paint on your palette than the canvas.

Thank you. Now I must learn acrylics even though I've yet to master oil and watercolor. Your son's painting is wonderful! I used to make fingerpaint for my babies from vanilla pudding and food coloring. It is so important for little ones to express themselves creatively.
I normally prefer your oil painting videos because I like oils better. But this is very satisfying. Your blending is superb, especially the subtle sky shades and the grass. And your son is channeling deKooning :-)
Not enough explanation when mixing colour or when applying. Just not clear to me. I liked your other videos but I didn’t learn anything really. I thought this was painting a tree?
Old Irish I’d buy a selection they don’t have to be wildly expensive ones and give them a go. Like most things the more you practise the more you learn. Most art shops (and I’m sure Kevin does as well) has packs with several different shapes and sizes. And it does depend on the size of canvases, and the style of painting you want to do. A small brush on a large canvas takes quite a bit of time and effort to cover and it’s easier to get detail with smaller round pointed brushes. Happy painting!

I love the painting, it’s wonderful, but I would like you to tell us which colour you are using, why? for putting a shadow in etc. Horizons always have a hint of red etc. Makes it so much easier if you are doing a colour intensive painting. Thanks and keep painting. As beautiful as yo do.
It's a nice painting you've done in acrylic. But the one big thing I don't like is that it's not a good instruction video....you skip through parts, don't explain the colours on your palette, and don't explain the coulours you are using in parts of the painting.
Can you show more detail of the blending brush you’re using how wet is it how much paint you’re loading on it what section of the brush you using it’s not all of it?
Another wonderful painting Kevin. Ive been working with acrylics since October and I feel that Oils will be better for me. I have a hard time blending the acrylics before it dries.

can you use the same technique of trees with oil or is there some differences to keep in mind? your paintins are very pretty too, realistic, some painters on here their paintings look to much like cartoons.
