Super pretty fish. Had 5 of them in a 15g tall and that ratio did not work out. They beat each other up all day. I wanna try again but I’m thinking overstocking is the way to go with lemons.
It's amazing how you can make even such a simple tank with few components look so beautiful. I am amazed every single time you make something. Thank you for sharing all of these beautiful artworks with us!
With these tanks you can mostly just do some small water changes every week or so. You don't need to remove old leaves or gravel vac. I'm theory it should mostly take care of itself.
This one is really going to look stunning as it grows in. Some floating frog bit or something with the roots coming down might be a fun addition though
I would love to see some plain old cardinal tetras in here. Their flash would be cool to see in the black water and they would get along with everybody.
To be honest I would replace the tetras with some trichopsis pumila or some betta like betta dennisyongi, get some RO water in there to make it soft and get a hang on back filter, would look more natural in my opinion
Cardinal Tetras would really pop in there, plus it looks really similar to the ecosystems they're commonly found in. Excellent job with this black-water set-up!
Another great build. I love those stumps! I’d say Kuhli loaches, they’re fun to watch, can be kept in a small group and will interact nicely with the botanicals and that open area beneath the shelf of the stumps.
i think it would be cool to see a video of all of the basic supplies you need to get started in the hobby, ive been binging your videos and am feeling inspired
I was looking for a tutorial for a planted blackwater aquarium. This is without question the best on youtube. At least for me. Subscribed to you channel!
I absolutely love these videos. You do great work. The finished tank footage with fish and music=perfect. I want that footage as my screen saver. Thanks again!!!
Love your tanks so much! It was a blast getting to meet you at Aquashella in Chicago, I was helping my sister & her husband with the MB Betta booth :) I think some khuli loaches would be a neat addition, you'd rarely see em but in a group they're more active! They love leaf litter and good places to hide like this, this tank would be perfect for a small group of them!
Wild bettas would do so well, you have a huge variety of options. You could do an alien betta, anything from the splendens, albimarginata, or coccinea complex.
I had a pair of angelfish in a similar set up. Lots of floating plants too but lots of tannins and lots of plant food by Tetra which I am convinced the vitamins in it made my angels thrive. I had never before been able to keep angels alive long. I had to sell my tanks when I moved. I so regret it. I am in a small place now and aquariumless for 20 years! 😭 One day I am going to have the money and find a spot for a new tank somehow. Im almost ready to ditch my king size bed and go for a queen to add room. I love my tanks in the bedroom and living room. So nice to relax to until time for aquarium lights out . I have fallen sooooo far behind on the new items and discoveries for fish! I have a lot to learn. I had a tank or several from the 70s until 2001. I miss fish so much. I could use one now for my high blood pressure. I have found there doesn't seem to be any half hexes out there. That was my angel fish tank. Rats. Im not sure what brands or types to trust now. And I truly hate the new lighting. I miss the warm toned long bulbs. Guess I need to read a stack of books like I did when I was 9.
Some kind of smaller pleco would be an ideal addition. I have a similar setup running albeit in a much bigger tank. Keep up the good work, love watching your videos!
Great looking tank! I love blackwater setups! The only thing I would have done different is mix some natural gravel in on top of the sand but prior to putting in the leaves and sprinkling the sand over top. I also would have put in a few larger smooth River rocks near the wood for two reasons. 1. In nature (freshwater) you rarely find just sand without rocks. And 2. If the sand gets overturned/moved by the flow, livestock, or whatever, it will provide a more natural blend to the slate you mounted the wood to. All that being said, it's one of my favorite setups of yours. You're so talented and I learn more about aquascaping each time I watch. Tell your parents they should have known better about the wood. 😂🤣
Amazing, Tanner. Really. Simply beautiful. By far my favourite so far. I would love another 'music video' of this tank. Could stare at this for hours. Thanks for your passion not just for creating works of natural art, but also to share your art with others. I hope you will be doing this for a long time.
Boiling for disinfection would only require a few minutes. After that I'd let the wood cool down in the water to help water log them. (The air expands and escapes through the canals in the wood and as the wood cools down it sucks up some of the water, this usually skips at least a few days of natural water logging)
Stellar tank, as always! I think adding a few ghost shrimp would be a cool accent to the x-rays. They would be small enough to keep the bioload down and be a nice hidden surprise when you see them. Though, in a blackwater, I'm not sure how well they'd withstand the pH and hardness.
As usual your tank looks awesome! There’s something interesting and soothing to look at a black water tank. It looks so calm. I never got the hang of caring for the various Anubias plants - the light is to strong in my tank. Otherwise I would love to have that plant. I have Ember tetras, Endlers guppy, Helena or Assassin snails , Amano shrimp and a pair of Plecos in my heavily planted tank full of leaves and branches as well
So...I have some legitimate questions. What does waterlogging do to the wood? Does it separate the grains so it absorbs easier? How have your rimless tanks held up? I've been contemplating making my own rimless tanks w/ thick glass, getting it cut for free at my local Home Depot, using GE silicone 1 and frog tape. I successfully divided a 10 gal into 2 with a custom glass pane inside. It's held up and works great as a show tank! Where do you get the glass? How thick is it? How much did this cost with the botanicals, glass and sand factored in? Sorry for the questions, Serpa. Although I've been watching your videos for over 4 years I've recently been very interested in doing similar builds :)
Hey its Greg, we met at Aquashella and I was hanging out while you made your mini scape. This is an awesome scape and when you got these how did you know they where aquarium/fish safe? Did you know they where a hard wood?
