Clams in red sauce is a super simple Italian seafood dish. Steamed clams are tossed in a garlicky tomato sauce with a touch of hot pepper flakes, basil, and extra virgin olive oil. This seafood recipe only takes around 30 minutes to make and is perfect as an appetizer or main course.

CLAMS IN RED SAUCE INGREDIENTS:
-2 pounds Littleneck clams
-28 oz can of whole plum tomatoes
-6 oz can of tomato paste
-5 cloves garlic
-1 tsp kosher salt
-1/4 tsp black pepper
-1/8 tsp red pepper flakes
-1/4 cup olive oil
-1 bunch basil

Ive never cooked with clams before... I've never eaten them outside of fried clams but I love them!

Great I’ve been using this recipe for approximately three years. My only comment LaPalma seems to add wine to their muscles and red sauce. PB

Loved this video !! A Suggestion for something different for you to make is Cappellin Aragusta which I'm told is a Blush gravy with sundried tomatoes and Lobster over Cappelini. Not sure of my spelling of this but the description is what the Chef said it was. I used to have it when I lived in NJ but now that I'm in Texas it's impossible to find.

How ‘bout a twinge more detail about purging clams? X number of table spoons of salt for x number of gallons water? How many times drain and refill?

You can use less if you want ( 3 ounces or so) or omit. The clams release a lot of water and might thin the sauce too much without paste. I use paste in most of my recipes involving tomatoes, but as in all my recipes I encourage you to experiment with or without and find what you like best.

Basil is used as garnish, rather than an ingredient. If iBasil had been used while making the tomato sauce , it may been even more flavourful. But that's just me.
