We have a video about toolpath strategies for plywood and plastics from a recent live stream that might help with this in the meantime! We're happy to make more projects with other materials in the. near future. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x9r9I9gA0Ko.html

Can you use an AVID CNC to do everything you need to build kitchen cabinets? I used to help my dad in his shop making furniture and remember the different tools he had back in the Mid to late 70's. Now turning the clock forward I purchased a home recently and want to redo the kitchen and bathroom cabinets as a start. I have a good drill press, a 16 year old new router table in the box and a good air compressor. I'm trying to think of how many more fewer tools I could get away with adding that would complete my requirements other than adding a CNC with maybe the 4th axis? I'm talking about power tool and not the list of clamps and other finishing tools.

Do you end up with spaces on the joints even when using the 1/8 bit because of the rounded corners?

So on the profile toolpath you use on the line? Not inside or outside?

I have gone through a lot of plywood trying to make this thing work. My problem is not knowing what to put into the field marked "Tolerance." I see in one of your comments below here that for 1/4" plywood you use a tolerance of .01, but would you use that same .01 for 1/2" or 3/4" plywood? I noticed in the first part of this video where you are laying out your dimensions for the box that you made, you left the "Tolerance " field set to zero. I have tried that and you can't put the joints together with a hammer. So how did you get your box to come out perfect and the joints fit together easily, after leaving that tolerance field at zero? This thing is driving me nuts and I have gone through a 4' X 8' sheet of plywood trying to make this thing work. I'm about to give up on it completely. Thanks for the help. Jim

I was doing 0.118 lexan and the boxmaker did not do dog bones and the tolerance must be set to something other than zero I could not get it together. Also what I messed up I cut outside the vector not "ON" the vector and one pass It should have been 3 passes. Well how do you choose which vector to select? In box boxmaker it shows inside and outside vectors. The dual path double vectors was my fault. I was in the 2D view and hit preview all vectors and preview produces the cut out vector on the 2D Sheet!!! don't do that or you might have to start over with a clean new job. I didn't carve the lid because it was outside the material. So there was plenty of wasted space to create my own lid in the unused space. It seems boxmaker doesn't like material under 1/8 inches thick, because the dogbone area wont match the material thickness. The auto generated dogbones were almost 1/4 in deep. Also speeds and feeds in bit selector 1/8 in single flute I chose 35 IPS 10,000 RPM I'm documenting this for my own tips doc.

Thanks for the great video but why machine vectors is set to 'ON' and not to 'outside'? Thanks.
@AvidCNC
@AvidCNC 3 года назад
Good question. If you pause at 5:47, when we zoom in to look at the tool path, you can see two vectors. One is the edge of the panel, and one is offset the radius of the tool from the panel. This way when the bit follows the on the line profile toolpath it can create a dogbone corner relief. This is just the way the gadget was programed to import and create the tool path. (You can also achieve this by manually adding dog-bone fillets tool in the design panel if you'd rather use an outside of the line profile tool path on the line that is the edge of each panel.)

Is there a way to use Box Gadget to do just the sides and ends,no top or bottoms
@AvidCNC
@AvidCNC 3 года назад
Yes, at 4:50 in the gadget pop up window it provides a list of the sides. You can uncheck any side you don't want it to generate!

@AvidCNC
@AvidCNC 3 года назад
@@johnsautier2703 Do you mean like a box frame, no top/bottom and the four frame pieces only have joints on the corners? If you uncheck "Lid / Bottom" it should not create box joint tabs on the top and bottom of side pieces, it will create box joints only on the ends of side pieces where the pieces fit together to form the corners of the box. If I've misunderstood your question please feel free to contact the Support Team at Support@AvidCNC.com and we'll see how we can help!

If you do the gadget exactly as shown it works very nicely. However moving the pieces and/or multiplying to make more boxes the toolpaths will get screwed. I can not find anywhere how to reproduce them correctly. Can’t tell if the correct path is on/in or out. So far this has cost a lot of plywood. Well back to it
@AvidCNC
@AvidCNC 3 года назад
There are several limitations to this gadget as it's a community developed plug in for a program. One way to orient the layout is to change the size of the material to restrict the nesting of the parts. For the regular box joints toolpath it generates two lines. One that is the exterior of the box and one that is the line for the tool to generate an on the line toolpath. If you'd like any follow up conversation on this please feel free to reach out to our support team and we will do our best to help!

I have made over 60 boxes with this gadget. I too cut up several sheets of plywood into scrap pieces before I learned how to make the gadget make perfect boxes every time. Here is a short video on how I made a ecofan box using the box gadget. Works great! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FgqXBNIWqaw.html
