I recently got a school of Bandit Corys and while in quarantine, they also spawned. And almost two weeks after moving them to the community tank, I saw little fry roaming around. The quarantine tank is heavily planted and has a large piece of wood in it so there are plenty of hiding spaces. Now it's my Blue Dream shrimp tank with a bunch of baby Bandits.

I guess the eating instinct takes over the continuation of the specie for fish when it comes to them eating their eggs/fry. Judging on the way fish are always seemingly SO interested in eating it's an addiction...ha ha. Never heard anyone talk about this though. I wonder if they are like this in the wild or just in captivity.... They don't seem to be overly nasty to each other as some fish can be at least from what I see here. Corys seem to be more into the search for food swimming about always for this and then hanging out somewhere they feel comfy. I have 5 of these Pepper corys and I really love them. I think they are getting on to being 4 years old. They used to come out though. They've always been in a 10 gallon tank with my one betta. They've taken to not coming out very often though. I feed them and I see them coming out mainly at night...still not as often as I would like...like they used to. I tried to understand if it's the way my tank has evolved over time...it's stable but maybe only some new plants??? Doesn't make sense there. I don't know if somehow my betta spooked them but I watch him and nothing that would seem extraordinary. Maybe they're more sensitive than I realized. My betta has been a bit hangry at times but he's been with them for their entire lives so they must know he's not a real predator threat. Anyway.....that's another topic.. Loved the video! I like to learn new things about fish and your presentations are informative and fun to watch/entertaining in a good way..

@@AquascapingCube thanks!! But i have an angelfish who is interested in the eggs so we’re keeping a close eye on the eggs! Any tips on how to keep them from the eggs? My catfish had to lay the eggs right on the tank glass so it’d hard to keep her from them!

The high protein diet of Bloodworms with an added rainstorm in your area is enough to spawn them. If I feed bloodworms to my Corys I get eggs in about a week.

Great video, but those Julii's are more difficult to breed than the peppered cories, Sterbais probably similar difficulty as well. As they are bigger fish, with all the action im sure they will eat the eggs if you have a bare bottom tank. I watched the mother a few times, I myself believe she ate the eggs because they were infertile, not because she was hungry.
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube Год назад
Thank you! Yes, they are more difficult but I already have some small success :) The problem I have are the numbers, I can get only few eggs from them at the time, the rest gets eaten and hidden from me :|
@clintmackenzie3419
@clintmackenzie3419 Год назад
@@AquascapingCube Yes I tend to agree, other more expensive cories like V Black Scultzei and Gold lasers I only get a few fry from 100 eggs :( But we keep trying!

About how long did your eggs take to hatch I have the same Cory’s and mine took 4 days and when do you start feeding them I have 1 fry that’s almost 2 days old then I have 70 eggs that are 2 days old that should hatch soon hopefully they decided to spawn again as soon as the other eggs hatched so that’s why there is a Lonley fry
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube Год назад
Hi. If I remember correctly they hatched on 5th day. All eggs hatched within 2-3h. I was feeding them on the next day with live baby brine shrimp because they started to swim freely very fast. This Cory fry is quite big right after birth, so BBS is great first food for them. Congrats on you big spawn! :)

@@AquascapingCube so the one fry I had that was already hatched died last night did I not feed him soon enough his body looks like the yolk was absorbed but it was less then 48 hours should I feed my next fry after 24 hours ? I think I just waited to long to feed him but it could have been a couple reasons I guess

Everything I seen said 2 days for it to absorb but is it possible mine absorb it in 1 day
@AquascapingCube
@AquascapingCube Год назад
Hi. In general I feed my fry when they start to swim on their own. And yes, mine started to eat definitely earlier than 48h. All of them are still alive. At the very beginning they are very sensitive to water quality, so try to do frequent but small water changes, try to feed them little sooner (with bbs if possible), and if they won't eat it - clean them out of the tank, don't let uneaten food spoil in the water. Best of luck!
