Great news! I just put this pattern on my Etsy store as some of you might prefer a written pattern. Come have a look: www.etsy.com/au/listing/1146602293/easy-beret-hat-crochet-pattern-size?ref=listings_manager_grid 💚💚 You can use any yarn and its recommended hook size for the pattern. If it starts to ruffle, switch to a bigger hook size.
Hi I started making this lastnight, I skimmed the video and notice you said the hat is tight, is the pattern identical to this video ? meaning the hat will be tight. I know you said to add a few less rows but I worry that will wreak the shape of the hat, I really want to make this hat anyway can you please confirm if you have altered the pattern or have you made this with less rows does it wreak the shape?
Hello! Thank you for asking! The written pattern is the refined version of the video but it will still state what the my video did differently to avoid confusion. Doing fewer rows at the brim barely changes the shape of the hat ( when you stop increasing changes it more) so no need to worry about that ☺️
Thank you so much for the pattern. I'm 11 and I made this really easily.i made mine colorful by changing the yarn every 3 rounds. Thanks again for this awesome pattern
It makes me so happy to hear this, I'm very impressed! ❤ My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was young(I'm 42 now), we didn't have RU-vid then sadly, I'ts much more fun 😊 keep up the good work!
just finished mine! did the last row with reversed single crochet. it's my first ever clothing project and it looks so beautiful! the explanation is very clear thank u so much for the video
I’ve been making the same beret over & over again. This is such a beautiful piece & im excited to try making it. I love making berets because they’re so quick to make! Thank you so much for sharing your talent. Subscribed!
I finished this today, took me a couple days. Thank you for the tutorial! The completed beret looks lovely, I love how it turned out. I made mine in the color lilac. 😊
When I tried making the circle section of hat, like before decreasing, it gets all curvy and wavy like it’s not flat like in the video. Do you know a way to fix it? Should I start off with 12 stitches instead of 14?
It could be the hook or tension. I get why you suggested starting with 12. I think I initially tried 12 but it didn't lay flat as a circle. If you haven't frogged it, you can probably eyeball how many stitches you need to remove so you have an idea of whether to begin with 13 or 12. Hope this helps!
If you are one of the people reading the comments for advice you found some. There are a lot of comments saying "this pattern is hard." And I say "No its not!" I am a very bad crocheter and I was able to make this! ...well maybe it kinda looked like a cabbage when I put it on... But nothing is perfect!!! Just believe in yourself and you can make it!!!!
Would it be possible to add a peak to this hat and make it into a newsboy hat? It appears that some newsboy hats are made in the round just like this one. Fabulous pattern, I love it!,
Thank you so much! I just know that you can add it on the edge of the brim after you finish it, but I haven't tried making a newsboy hat. I think I might do it in the near future though 😊
Waaah I'm pretty sure I followed her steps but mine was not flat it looked liked a lettuce after 8rounds. I'm using 4ply indophil yarn and 4mm hook. I hope u noticed this I really wanna finish it. I liked ur pattern.
Ciao! Sono felice che il tutorial ti sia piaciuto e che il tuo berretto sia venuto bene. È sempre un piacere sapere che la mia spiegazione è stata utile.
Hey it’s my first time making a clothing piece that isn’t for baby’s and theres a part that’s a bit confusing on the fourth row the 26th and 27th stitch. It’s supposed to be three back post stitches but there are only two. Am i the only on seeing this or is it part of the pattern?
Hi! This sounds like a good idea. Maybe I’ll make a tutorial 😊 But for now, you can first try experimenting moving each rnd 1 st to the right. If that doesn’t work, decrease 1 st at the beginning of each repeat section and increase 2 sts at the end.
@@CherilynQ omg yes please! And also, another question, if I wanted to use 2 colors, how would I do that? It's been years since I've crocheted and I would like to make this in 2 colors, if possible. Thank you!
I've started this béret and I'm about 10 rounds in. The circle is a little wavy\curling but flattens out when I lay it flat. Should I be concerned? Will it be OK once I start decreasing? I'm worried that I started too tight. Or my yarn is too thick? It's DK. Ugh I don't know and I don't want to frog it incase it works out. It feels really thick and squishy and looks a lot thicker than yours. Is this right?
I'm sorry this happened. I would try decreasing for 2 rounds since you're already at rnd 10, might as well. Also, a larger hook and loose tension would help with the curling situation.
@@CherilynQ thank you so much for replying! I started again with a new ball of the same yarn (DK weight) and a smaller hook but the same happened. I must be doing something wrong cos its at 9 rounds (not 10 after all) and only about 12cm across so definitely not ready for decreasing yet. I'm gonna frog and try with a larger hook and loosen up my tension. Would you suggest any alternative to the bpdc? I think that's where I'm screwing up my tension cos it's such a fiddly stitch. Thank you again for your reply, I absolutely adore your videos ❤️
Thank you so much! I don’t know another way to do bpdc. Simple dc won’t do cuz it’s not the same height. You can also try working the fpdc and bpdc taller too if you can as well as the looser tension and larger hook.
I am so so grateful for your replies 😍 I've fogged both and am going to try again so fingers crossed! I know it's a while since you made this, I don't suppose you remember the weight of the yarn you used?
@@CherilynQ I'm not sure how to make the fp/bpdc taller so instead I'm working the stitch higher up on the post, like right under the stitches on the post. I hope this works as your beret is sooo cute!
Just started working on this project. Having a challenge. I'm not sure where I'm making the mistake. In the 3 round I think . because the result should give me 3 back posts. But I still get 2 back posts
@@CherilynQ Honestly not sure which round but think its 3 or 4. But I watched the video over and over again and had to undo a round until I sought of figured it out. Thank you for the response
9:17 i have a question about this row. you said do 2 back post in the first back post and one in the second back post. and u said do it for the next 3 stitches. but you didnt explain what to do after 3 stitches? how what to do for the rest of posts on that row???
I was also a bit confused at first but found out, after those three stiches you continually repeat it (so one front post in the front post, two back posts in the first back post, one back post in the second back post) three stitches at a time for the rest of the round, she speeds up the video but shows how you finish the row and start a new one
I've been trying to follow this, but every time I try it always comes up too small. I get to 10 stitches and it's only 19/20cm... What am I doing wrong???
Sounds like your yarn is thinner than mine so it's normal your work is smaller. You can keep increasing following the same pattern until it's 25 cm in diameter before you decrease.
Hi, thank you! 😊 It should work because the circle shape can be achieve with any yarn and you can very easily adjust the size of the circle too. The finished hat will just be thicker tho cuz your yarn is thicker.
Loving this beret, except I’m using U.K. DK yarn, not sure if it’s was a good idea as I think I’ll have to do way more rounds before the decrease .. has anyone else used this yarn. Thanks
I haven't watched the tutorial yet but I assume you will need more decreases aswell because the entire gauge is different. You'll likely end up with more stitches to start
I made one, on increase side i make it white, on decrease i make it black, and on single crochet rows i make is white back, im so happy to make this, but its a little crumpled at early. My grammar is bad, sorry
Hi, thank you for this great pattern. I want to make this hat for a 4-year-old child. How much do you think the diameter I should be taking at the end of the increase?
Hi, thank you! Maybe 22 -24 cm? but I can't say for sure. I'm not professional and I've never made stuff for children. It really just depends on your liking, how slouchy you want it to be.
Each round you decrease, it gets smaller. Sounds like you already know how to make the decrease. Just follow the pattern, make the decrease in each round and it will become smaller. I hope this helps ❤
Mine will not lay flat as I continued to work my increases, it has fluttery “lettuce” edges all the way around . Also I am confused about what to do with the chain 2. Are they being included in the last BP DC of the round for every round? Or are they supposed to be left out?
I think I’ve figured out what to do about the ruffling edge. Frogging and starting over. Can someone tell me what to do with the chain 2 in each round?
@@antoinettejackson8013Hi, I can't be sure why yours ruffles since I can't see it. If you follow my pattern exactly and still have a ruffly circle, it could be because the hook you are using is too small for the yarn, or that your tension is too tight. But I'm glad you fixed it now For the ch2, I designed it to be included in the last bpdc in the same round. Hope this helps!
@@CherilynQ yes that does help thank you. I wasn’t sure if the chain 2 was included in just the 1st round or not. Yes the hook size and tension are the what the issues were, very excited to start again with the changes. Thank you so much for the quick response, trying to finish quickly!
Hi, assuming his/her head is around 50 cm in circumference, which means 16 cm in diameter, you can follow the same increasing pattern until the circle is around 21-23 cm in diameter, do 1 more round without increase or decrease, and then start decreasing until the brim is around 14-15 cm in diameter (just a little tighter on the head). I think this will work fine and please feel free to let me know how it turns out 💕
Your yarn could be smaller than mine, but again you're using a smaller hook, so it's hard to say. If you follow the pattern exactly and your circle is close to what I have sizewise, then it could just be your hook; If your circle is way smaller than mine, then it's probably because your yarn is small too.
My yarn calls for 4.5 mm. Idk if your hook is too small for your yarn, but using a smaller hook than the yarn calls for is one of the reasons why a circle ruffles. Another reason is your tension is too tight. You could fix it by: 1. switching to a bigger size hook 2. using loose tension 3. starting from beginning with 12 dc in magic ring (then follow the same inc/dec pattern) Hope this helps! ❤
Hi. I have a question. In 9:04 you say"for the next three stitches" then what do I do after that? Do I keep putting the two backpost stitches? You didn't explain Because I kept repeating it and got to a part where I only had one front post and one backpost
Hi, you might have a different gauge so giving you the measurements might be more helpful. You can follow the same increase pattern until the circle is around 20 cm in diameter, do 1 more round without inc/dec, then start decreasing until the brim is around 14 cm in diameter. Hope this helps!
