A simple jig is usually better than an overly complicated one. Thanks for sharing!

You could actually use two identical stops and rotate the router as well, if you don’t want to figure out exact distances. Added perk is it will put your hole dead center even if its a hair wider than your bit. Might lead to a little more clean up, but if that dead on accuracy is your thing, seems like a simple way as well.

I literally never EVER comment on RU-vid vids. Might be the second comment ever ahah. Ive just started making chopping boards and sold my first today ($100) 😍 anyway. Its great to see as others have said. Its simple, effective and you explain it well. Isnt mega complicated like every other jig on youtube. Appreciate you. Earned a sub. (I will eventually save up and buy a router ahah. Good luck to all reading, we got this. (Also if curious i sold mine on fb market place. I advertised it at $5 a day and sold on second day. The more eyes on your product rhe better) love you all. Goodluck. From Australia

I do the same thing with my handheld lamination router. It is way simpler than having a crazy complex 7 in 1 acrylic jig that shoots laser beams.

I know right. Everything I saw on RU-vid was some acrylic self centering job with slots and knob. Didn't want to spend two days building a jig! Great minds....

Plunge your router down in the middle of the groove then go back and forth to each stop. This will avoid the tear out.

You had some tear out, would this method work on an end grain side if you made edge grain board? Or would a handle blow out totally on a board like that? Great method going to try this tomorrow!
@breakingwavecustomwoodwork8683
I think if you took shallow passes it would work out fine

What do you do if you don’t have a plung router?
@DougMcHone
@DougMcHone 2 года назад
I would use a forstner bit, perhaps on both ends of the handle, then use the router to join the holes. This would add a layer of difficulty. Probably a few layers now that I think about it.
@breakingwavecustomwoodwork8683
@breakingwavecustomwoodwork8683 2 года назад
You can very carefully lean the router into the cut, just take many shallow passes.
@breakingwavecustomwoodwork8683
@breakingwavecustomwoodwork8683 2 года назад
I think I like the forstner bit idea better though.

I personally do not like edge guides, for the fact you can tilt your router and ruin your piece. I would build a jig with a slot in it, and use a guide bushing. Fool-proof.
@breakingwavecustomwoodwork8683
@breakingwavecustomwoodwork8683 2 года назад
I had similar reservations, but it is pretty stable. I agree with you about edge guides and tipping, it's always a concern. I'll keep sweating it out for the time being.

Great video. How wide are the grooves?
@jerryloughney4757
@jerryloughney4757 3 месяца назад
In regards to the edge guide being unstable. Could one double-sided tape a block on the opposite side of the router base to run along the other side of the cutting board? I like this vid and your idea but also worry about stability, especially if the cutting board is thinner than what you have. I think an additional block could help and might try it.

It would be absolutely beautiful if all router manufacturers could make their tools to a uniform size. Wishful thinking...

i use my router table and fence, quick work, simple, stable , i find this video very complicated for an unexperienced woodworker
@breakingwavecustomwoodwork8683
@breakingwavecustomwoodwork8683 2 года назад
I used to use my router table and fence as well. I can't make this style handle with that method. I have also had a couple of boards get damaged while using the router table which is why I started looking for a new method.
