Bath Bomb Recipe:
47 oz Baking Soda
2 oz Cream of Tartar
1 oz Kaolin Clay
1 oz SLSA
30 oz Citric Acid
.7 oz Jojoba oil (or oil of choice)
.3 oz Poly 80
.8 oz Witch Hazel (+ sprayer with extra)
1 oz Fragrance (check manufaturer recommended %)

What a great way to use fragrance's that don't behave in CP soaping. I love them. I also like how you do it by hand. I've only ever seen people using their big fancy mixers and hydraulic bath bomb presses. You've made it all look very "doable" for a newbie. Thanks so much Ellen.

Hi Ellen, Thank you again for a great video and for generously sharing your talent. You have inspired me for weeks, and just today I made my first-ever bath bombs using your recipe! I had Sandalwood and Amber fragrance and you are right, it smells fabulous! I used round spherical molds in a manual press and I did end up with pretty large flat spots on the bottom. I hope to get some contoured drying trays but they are sold out everywhere I have searched. Thank you again, you are such a lovely person and I look forward to all of your videos!

@@EllenRuthSoap thanks! it was fun making them! i bought the same mold too! made 14. the only thing i did different was reduce the witch hazel to 0.6 and kept the spray bottle ready to add more. i've tried making bombs before but it's so humid here they activated. i have them stored in my soap room now. i used the left overs like you showed and Wow! fizzes and bubbles so nice! scented with peony with pink mica for a baby shower!

Those are gorgeous Ellen, I have not use my moon cake press in a long time, but I love it. Try to put some botanicals at the bottom before pressing the mixture, if you like them. They come out very pretty 😍

If you add too much witch hazel, i would put a bit more dry like cr. of tartar or kaolin to help. They won't form well with too much..

These are beautiful!! I got a press like that on Amazon and I was trying to make shampoo bars with it… that didn’t work out 😂 the tops got stud in it and they were so ugly! They just became my personal shampoo bars.

I use cling wrap to line mine when doing soaps, and they release really good with it.

Check your local FB marketplace. I found several kitchen aid mixers that were used but still in VERY good condition (I paid $50 for one and it is a workhorse!). I gave them all a through cleaning & sanitized them and they are good to go for bath bombs, body butter etc.!

I love this I did bought the same press moulds from Amazon and been doing the same Bath Bombs. I have a question, I do have very similar recipe for my Bath Bombs, I wanted to know, instead of adding SLSA, can I add Cocamidopropyl betaine? I heard great things about it. xoxo

Thank you for this sharing! When I try the moon cake press, everything is perfect in the beginning, but when I do the second batch, the powder will be stuck in the press pattern and make a blurred surface. I've tried to make it wetter or drier, pack tight or pack loose, put some cornstarch or baking soda before...etc, but it still does not work:( Have you ever meet this situation? Thanks!

Oh, that sounds frustrating. I haven't had that happen... You could try wiping out the moon press between and make sure it's clear and clean...

If you use epsom salts (half the weight of baking soda) in addition to this recipe, how much more liquid would you add? Would you recommend adding the salts?

Hi Ellen, when I put this fragrance in wsp it says 4 oz for 82 oz of product. Am I calculating this wrong? I just don’t want to over fragrance my bath bombs.

That does sound like a lot, but remember with a bath bomb, it's being dispersed in a huge amount of water...

You could replace it with kaolin clay or cornstarch

easier way to do it is to take the press and just push it into the bottom of your bowl to pack it thats how we do our shower melts

Absolutely, you can just omitt the slsa and use a bit more cream of tartar or kaolin, or reduce the liquid by a bit...

No, I don't think this press would be a good option for lotion bars because it's not "leak proof" and the lotion bar batter is liquid when poured.

@@greenbarn2213 I HAD a 30 quart, loved it, yes it was massive(still miss that beast), had to turn it quarterwize(on its side corner to corner) in my kitchen sink to clean it, wouldn't fit any other way...I punched a hole near the rim, threaded a wire through, hung on a hook in my basement stairwell. Massive beast!😍😘but it *was worth* having! Could mix up an 8 dozen batch of cookies or muffins *any* time👏👏👏 yes, I do(did) a LOT of baking! Including pies by the dozens to FILL my freezers (yes, plural) big *old chest freezers* 23 cubic footers..down in the basement, they sold *with* the house, I wasn't paying to have them hauled back UP those stairs!

A lot of mica's are bath and body safe, some are not, so you need to read the specs for them before using.

i cant get hold of slsa - i can only guess they will work still but be more of a fizzy - i am going to try my small moon cake press for my shower steamers as a previous comment said - haven't made a soap for a couple of weeks due to some health issues - so did one yesterday - you name it - if it could go wrong it found a way of doing it - even had soap on a stick at one part but managed to stuff it in the mold and cut today - its revolting - smells divine but oh boy - its really really looking disgusting - wont be getting that fragrance oil ever again even though the write up said no acceleration - so onward and upwards hunting for that special soap - lol

Using the "free classifieds" ads, I got 2!! Stand mixers for less than the price of one, new! Needless to say one(oster) was dedicated to soaping etc. And my kitchenaid was locked in the kitchen.food only. Very much a jewish type system certain things were kitchenaid only, others oster only! God help you if you mix it up! YOU will OWE me replacement mixer!
