This is my way of making easy and quick moss poles for my climbing plants. Moss Pole to provide extra support for any climbing plant, especially aroids like Philodendron and Monstera species. I like to DIY my own sphagnum moss poles because I can customize the size and width for my plants!

Thank you for the video! I couldn’t find the wire mesh people were using in their videos so i bought bamboo poles hoping i can tie moss to it and then stumbled upon your video! Information was very helpful and it is exactly how i envisioned it!

I’m new to all of this so this was so interesting to me! When I get more vining plants, I’m definitely going to try this! Right now, I only have one Pothos plant and it’s made from propagations so it’ll take a little while to grow vines. I’m going to go to my local Lowe’s and Home Depot in the Spring and buy more plants! Thank you for sharing!!

How do you extend the pole after the plant has attached it's aerial roots to the moss?
@stayfitstaylit4207
@stayfitstaylit4207 3 года назад
I believe you can take the aerial roots off and make a bigger moss pole
@coagulatedsalts4711
@coagulatedsalts4711 3 года назад
actually, some moss poles can be made with a pvc tube in the middle and substrate tied around it, once the plant outgrows its old size you can just make another pole and connect the pvc tubes together. melting the ends and sticking them together would work well. and you can extend it as much as possible.
@seanceknowles2911
@seanceknowles2911 Год назад
@@coagulatedsalts4711 I use these kinds of moss poles they come with a bamboo pole that’s pointy to insert into the dirt the moss is already wrapped on the small pvc pipe and they can be stacked using the same type of poles.

Ok so my prayer plant when I got it had Arial roots and I kind of like trimmed the leaf it was next to and have it in water so I can have a new plant well ill see if it works and the Arial roots stay healthy and like roots so I can have two prayer plants
@bellaterlaje
@bellaterlaje 3 месяца назад
How exactly do you extend these? Do you have a video for that?
@blueovalgalsthisandthat
@blueovalgalsthisandthat 3 года назад
Wow, you made it look so easy! Question: Do you have to keep the moss pole moist to encourage the roots to grow into it, and if yes, would would you do it? Just keep spraying it with a spray bottle? I currently have my Albos tied to bamboo sticks, and though they have started to grow aerial roots, those roots are growing straight into air, which I later train to grow back into the pot. Great video! I might have to try making one. :)
@FelineJungle
@FelineJungle 3 года назад
Yes I use mosspole to encourage roots! I just spray it with a bottle or put it under the sprinkler head in my sink. So fascinating! my parents monstera started growing aerial roots that attached to the walls due to the humidity in their bathroom
@tarastokely8808
@tarastokely8808 3 года назад
Keeping the moss moist is one way to keep the humidity up. You still have to water the soil so it will grow, the moist moss just makes them healthier and grow bigger leaves.
@blueovalgalsthisandthat
@blueovalgalsthisandthat 3 года назад
@@tarastokely8808 Thank you for the information!! I ended up taking off the moss pole with my Albos. The spag dandruff was driving me crazy. Thinking of buying the other type of pole... I can't think of its name. LOL

@FelineJungle
@FelineJungle 3 года назад
Yes you can! But it will rot eventually depending on the wood. The reason I recommend bamboo is because it is more rot resistant. Haha I used a chopstick at first and eventually rotted at the base 🙈

Do you have any tips on keeping these moist? I made one using this method and mine gets almost bone dry every day and it’s just too much to keep spraying it and when I try to only wet the pole in the shower I then always get the soil/plant as well and I don’t want to lead to root rot. Any help is appreciated ☺️ Also I totally love the first pot on the left. So cute
@FelineJungle

I find that wrapping the moss with plastic wrap will retain the moisture longer. It also encourages the aerial roots to really dig into the moss :) hope it helps
