My gas grill sat unused for over a year because the burners had rusted out and it was too dangerous to use. Turns out it's a simple, inexpensive repair -- once you clean out all the grease, grime, rust, and gunk that's built up over time.
In this video I show you how I cleaned up the grill and had to use some ingenuity to attach the new burners since the shelf they rested on had rusted out.
I had purchased a new universal gas burner at Home Depot for $15, but I found a 4-pack on Amazon.com for use $13, a big savings. This is the universal gas bruner replacement set I bought from third-party seller BBQMANN:

(NOTE: Affiliate link - if you make a purchase on Amazon through that link, I receive a small commission. It doesn't affect the price you pay, but it helps me continue the work of turning my home into a homestead. Thanks!)

How do you remove and put back the burners from the gas?
@ShatteredHawk
@ShatteredHawk 3 года назад
Most of them pull straight away from the gas line.

What I don’t understand is why when I find burners on amazon some of them say they’ll fit my model but the dimensions are different. You did a nice job improvising. I like your mentality, better to repair than just throw away stuff.👍

Thanks! I think we're too wasteful in society and though I could be much, much better myself, I do try to fix before discarding

Heh. In most cases yes, but this is a simple design concept: a bit of metal tubing with some holes drilled into them. No need to overpay for that. They actually outlasted the grill! lol

I'd like to know how the gas is connected to the burners
@HomesteadDIY
@HomesteadDIY 6 лет назад
In the video (around 4:00 or so) you will see in the lower part of the screen protrusions that I'm sticking the replacement burners in. There nozzles in them that the new burners fit over that are connected by a tube that runs the length of the grill that is connected to the gas tank. That's how the gas gets from the tank to each of the burners. Hope that helps.

@@HomesteadDIY How do I properly install the gas line to a Stok Quattro grill
@HomesteadDIY

@@DavidMartinez-dg4ft Sorry about the delayed response. I'm also not sure how you would install the gas line to that grill. These burners are simple universal replacements that slip right on...which is about my speed! Good luck!

Just ordered a replacement kit from Amazon. Have had a grill for quite a while that just isn't delivering the heat i want. was considering all sort of modifications, but ultimately just going to replace burners and tents. was surprised to see you didn't replace the tents. i've often thought of just using some 2 x 2 angle iron. figured that would do a good job or trapping/radiating heat. Great job. thanks. :)
@HomesteadDIY
@HomesteadDIY 4 года назад
Thanks! I probably should have replaced them...but they seemed to otherwise be in good condition once cleaned up and I was thinking the burners were the real problem. Maybe the whole package would've been better. Cheers!

I love the angle bracket idea because I have a couple that are rusted out and I was wondering how to get new ones to fit and now you just gave me a great idea and it looks like it would last a lot longer than originally. Great video thank you for the tip. I am also changing out my heat shields because when I lift them up they just crumble. I am going with heavy gauge stainless steel for my burners and heat shields. I also about a few years ago replaced my grill grates with heavy gauge stainless steel that I also bought from Amazon for my uniflame gas grill.

nice job nice burners barbecue look like you been in a slump Did you have to check the BTU on the burner when you order them
@HomesteadDIY
@HomesteadDIY 2 года назад
I did not check the BTUs, just their size (length) to ensure they matched the old ones. TBH, I didn't even think to check the BTUs and looking at their listing I don't even see it listed, nor on any similar replacement models.

Thanks! A relative just gave me their used grill which needs some cleanup work to it, so looks like I'll be having another go at it too. This time I'm going to be using a product called Super Clean. The company sent me it to test out so this should be a good indication if it works. I also plan on using it to clean my pickup truck's engine bay, which it supposedly works on too with no scrubbing. I've never tried smoking, though I do watch videos about it often. I may have to try my hand at it one day. Cheers!

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I need to fix mine but the rear burner supports are all rusted out. How's that aluminum holding up? I also have some angle aluminum, but am worried about Galvanic corrosion with steel screws in an aluminum support.
@HomesteadDIY
@HomesteadDIY Год назад
I was eventually gifted a new grill, but when the old one was finally trashed several years later, the aluminum support I put in was still going strong. I saw no evidence of galvanic corrosion. Maybe over time it would have become more apparent, but certainly as a stopgap measure the "fix" was fine
@scowell

you can just lay them in, it works fine... they don't have to be fastened down unless you're transporting it.

Can i replace my clover leaf burners for some different ones?
@HomesteadDIY
@HomesteadDIY 6 лет назад
While I can't say for certain, I don't see why not. However, what you need to look at is where your burners connect to gas inlet in the oven. The problem you might have is not having enough inlets. Where I had five inlets and was able to just reattach five new burners, you might have only one or two inlets because your burners are in a cloverleaf pattern. They take the gas from one point and spread it out wider over the four "leaf" area, so if you replace them with a different style of burner, you won't have enough connection points. But that's really just a guess since I've not actually seen the cloverleaf style grill. Good luck!
