Ive been using the Pedalsnake for years. sounds great and has all the connectors I need.

Thanks a ton for this! How would you handle it if you need one of the runs to be TRS for channel switching?

I have the exact same question - can one of these be used for amp channel switching?

How does capacitance compare between such coax and individual instrument cables such as Mogami 2524?

Would going over 20’ cause issues? I could definitely benefit from having a snake at 25-30ft, but I’m having trouble finding legitimate advice on the topic. I have a pedalboard with dedicated buffers at the beginning, send, and output of my board. Thanks!

They don’t seem to sell the 4 channel coax cable by the foot anymore… Any suggestions as to where to still get one?

Would you connect on of the two conductors to ground if you were using a balanced multicore cable?

What size/brand heat shrink do you recommend for this type of cable? Thank you.
@GearAGoGo
@GearAGoGo Год назад
It looks like you have a sleeve reinforcing the outer shielding where the three coax cables immerge. Is it just heat-shrink, or is it something I can get along with the cables and jacks from Markertek?

I just don’t understand why it takes a three cable cores for a four cables setup, and four cores for a five cables setup?
@christianthompson7495
@christianthompson7495 Год назад
so when you have 4cm setup, only 3 of the cables will go the distance between your board and amp the 4th cable is between your guitar and the board. A 5cm setup follows suit.. most commonly that 4th cable in the 5cm is to a lead channel or handles some channel switching aspect. hope that makes sense.

@@christianthompson7495 I see!!!! TIL about the 4 and 5 Cable Method. I was about to make cable snake like this to connect an electronic drum to its respective pads and didn’t understood the reference. Thank you so much.

4cm one cable is your guitar to the pedalboard. Not needed to be in the snake. You would just need 3. One to the amp, one from the FX sent back to the board, and the third to go back to the FX Return. You would want a 4th cable if you are going to 2 amps or if you need one to change channels on an amp.

@@NicleT Right on! Good luck with the snake.

The cable you are using appears to be made for video 75 ohm type. Is this optimal or does this work well with instrument signal levels for guitar? Especially if you need to run about 20+ feet? Thanks

It's a coaxial cable, very low capacitance, and can be used for audio. Most of the early cables used in the guitar world were all Belden RG cables designed for A/V stuff as well. I wouldn't have recommended it if it weren't a good candidate. This is common use among pro rig builders and this type of cable.

Is soldering different for coax cable? How does the sound quality compare to regular instrument cable?
@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc Год назад
Most guitar cables are COAX cables, same soldering as any other guitar cable.

but how and what do you connect it to? I've never used a tip to connect with a wire like that

You have to solder the plugs just like with any cable.

This is ridiculous timing. No joke, have just been researching this the last 2 days and just ordered separate cables, braided sleeves, and heat shrink yesterday (d’oh). One question though- how is the fidelity/sound of these sort of cables?
@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc Год назад
It's an ideal cable for this location (output of pedalboard and effects loop). It's very low capacitance (around 25pF per foot) and the construction is high quality as it would be with any Canare brand cable. Made in Japan, one of the most respected cable makers of all time. I wouldn't recommend it if it weren't good.

With coaxial cable being solid core, are there any advantages or disadvantages to that cable type?
@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc Год назад
I prefer stranded to solid core for this application. The stiffness of solid core can make stage use impractical.

There is one issue with this approach. All my looms also transfer power via power cables. On one of my pedalboards I run a talk box with a pedal format amp on-board. This pedal requires 24vdc so i have to have 2 power cables. Or at the very least a way to jump the power from the power supply to the amp pedal. An example would a power supply like the voodoo labs 2x4 plus that has a power outlet on it. So while this makes the cable management very neat. I still need 1 or more cables running the same length as my patch cables. @Mason, do you have any advice around how to manage that more cleanly?
@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc Год назад
@@christianthompson7495 You can run DC through a coax, every power supply cable provided by most manufacturers is a coaxial cable (Voodoo Lab for example). You'd just need to get enough channels to make sure you accommodated your DC power and Audio.

@@VertexEffectsInc i am confused. Are you saying that i can attach a 3 prong wall plug to a coaxial cable and connect directly to a power outlet/use as an electrical extension cord??
