Philippe from France, I'm Playing golf for more than 30 years, I have a lot of troubles with my grip switching between overlapping and interlocking. I recently discover that my way of interlocking was not rigth. Your video is very useful, ( as it is for most of them for me and the other on the french site) because you take your time to explain the process in details. Thanks

I've never seen another teacher with the wealth of knowledge on how our anatomy works in the golf swing like you have. I have to have my lead hand strong and top hand in a much more neutral position because if my top hand gets strong I will snap hook it off the planet.

I've never seen someone with such a loose swing, that at first glance looks "unprofessional", but he crushes it right down the middle. If you look at him and his instructors they all have different swings.

Same. I also have strong lead hand but my trail hand wants to be neutral or weak, never strong. Therefore my snuff boxes don’t hinge together. Not sure how to work with that. Especially with iron play.

Shawn, you are the Best Golf Coach on You Tube by Far! After fighting pulls and pull-hook misses for years, due to a strong grip in both hands, this video finally got through to me! The later video part on equalizing or matching the wrist cock in both wrists hit me between the eyes on my problem. That problem was a strong grip in BOTH hands that, for me, causes excessive left wrist cup at top of backswing, while preventing any cupping of the right wrist. When I use the Matt Fitzpatrick grip (strong Left and weaker Right) I get both wrists cocking properly, while Slightly Closing the Clubface at address gets my clubface square at at Impact! Thanks!

Shawn Clement's approach is based on biomechanics and neuroscience. It is based on a few concepts that he has been using for the past 15 years in his numerous videos. It is also based on experimentation with different positions and variations and the corresponding sensations, in terms of strength, balance and efficiency. Experimentation that is inhibited by the teaching of the single position and movement: neutral grip, stance square, not raising or lowering the head, making an uninterrupted movement. Neuroscience seems to agree with Shawn. Humans need a target, an intention, and are adaptive to variation. They throw objects and drive nails or cuts down trees and plants. All this is not usually taught. And is not easily accessible to the beginner nor acceptable / convincing to him. It takes a lot of experience to realise how relevant Shawn's teaching is and how simple it is.

I'm a deep grip guy, and I also have a tendency to grip the club tight, and I do go left more often. Last year I tinkered with a strong left hand and weak right, it helped tremendously, but this tweak, should have me on the senior tour in no time. Thanks Shawn!!

Great video. Been thinking about starting up again as I basically quit just over a year ago. Was playing a lot and not making any progress so I got frustrated and hung it up. Been entertaining the thought of playing again. Would definitely need to look at the grip before even hitting any balls.

Get with a solid task and be good with it! See “grass whip training shawn clement” and be great at cutting grass with your club’s leading edge! You get good at this and you will be great at golf! Then get your butt over to our premium channel at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com and start with a nice overview of our teachings with the “senior series” and then see the “task 2.0 series” and get with me with a swing analysis and I will point you in the right direction for next level!

I play interlocking and one test I do on the grip is point the index fingers and make sure they are pointing in the same direction. Really helps in the winter when wearing cold weather gloves and have reduced feel. Index fingers used to point more towards each other and caused my trail hand to release too much, causing a strong draw.

Very interesting. I've used an interlocking grip for the past 20 years since getting more serious about golf and I notice that my interlock has gotten much deeper as you've described. It feels much more comfortable when I do that but lately, my shots have been pulling way to the left. I've tried working on my alignment and shoulders through the swing but it hasn't helped consistently. It may be that my "deep" interlock is the cause of that so I will definitely try this grip adjustment when I next go to the range; perhaps later today. Thank you Shawn!
@The_Madd_Golfer
@The_Madd_Golfer Год назад
Just a quick update. I'm at the range and have adjusted my grip, so my right hand is not as "deep" into my interlock and just like magic; no more pulls! I was actually hitting it pretty straight right since that's where I've been aiming because of my pulls, but that should be an easy fix. I'm smh at stuck a simple (yet not so obvious to realize) yet straightforward fix. Thank you so much Shawn!

has anyone conducted a study between a link to the inter-locking grip and the power fade vs. the Vardon grip and a baby draw? I think Shawn is old enough to remember Billy Casper & Jack Nicklaus
@golflessons

I used to think like that but for a few years now I realized that you can work the ball nicely both directions with both grips; but tge overlap got me instantly drawing when I was a junior.

Hello: Have watched several of your grip videos. I am 66 and not consistent for my 14 index. Last week I had a 12 shot higher score from two days earlier. What videos do you suggest I view?
@golflessons
@golflessons Год назад
This is the proverbial can of worms Debbie! 1-are you choosing a flight plan you want vs a destination you want to avoid 2-are you delivering through an intermediate point? 3-are you making your predictions that your distance to ball, ball position, grip and club face angle are such that when you deliver your task into the direction you want to start the ball, that the ball will do what you want? (set up matches picture and you feel great over the ball and the hamster wheel is quiet?) 4-Are you delivering with a nice base of momentum or are you forcing things and steering things?
@debbiewightman4249

Will try to absorb what you suggested especially work on path versus distance.

Shawn great video... If you have ever listened or seen the coach Pete Cowan he advocates a much tighter/firm grip in the fingers and wrist...he explains a firmer grip has more face control and consistency. A lot of people say to keep a loose grip which to me feels very weak when striking the ball... i switched to holding the club tighter as i can feel the strike better and feels more powerful. It would be interested to know your thoughts on this?

Hey Shawn do you prefer interlock or overlap for yourself and why?
@golflessons
@golflessons 2 месяца назад
I have used them all; I have large hands with good length fingers; the VARDON or overlapping grip is best for both my left handed and right handed swings!
@freedomthrucrypro2188
@freedomthrucrypro2188 Год назад
Also, I struggle with conflicting snuff box hinge especially with irons. I have strong lead hand and weak trail hand. More than Mu. I’ve tried making trail strong like Sav but my trail really gravitates to weak. Not sure how to negotiate this once and for all so I can practice consistently with same grip.

Stay with what feels solid and functional! The 10 finger grip is just as valid as the overlap or interlocking grip; DON’T FIX WHAT AIN’T BROKE as they say!👍👊💪😀

I've used ten finger grip for nearly 50 years, since I started golf. Neither of the other grips worked for me. You mentioned ten finger for 2 seconds. How does that grip matter in this discussion?
@golflessons
@golflessons Год назад
Ten finger grip is absolutely every bit as valid as any other grip; if you see my oldie but goodie “grip and wrist hinge shawn clement” you will see i use the 10 finger grip instruction to get golfers out of this deep interlock grip predicament. Dave Barr, one of Canada’s greatest ever players made his career with that grip and so did Bob Estes on the PGA Tour.
