No visit to Argentina is complete without a "Dia de Campo".
"Gauchos" are essentially Argentinian cowboys. There is a rich gaucho culture that can be found across the country.
San Antonio de Areco is arguably the most famous town for experiencing true gaucho culture and is an easy 2 hours away from Buenos Aires.
There are many "estancias" (ranches) offering visits complete with horse back riding, "asado/parillada" (typical barbecue meal), unlimited wine, folk music, and horse related games.

If you have any interest in getting a feel for traditional culture, love horses and delicious, rustic food, this memorable countryside experience is a MUST when visiting Argentina.
It's an easy full day trip from Buenos Aires and can be done independently, no need to pay for an official tour.
Official tours will handle pickup and drop off from Buenos Aires, but honestly taking the bus there and back is hassle-free, and allows for extra time to explore the charming town of San Antonio de Areco- be sure to grab some decadent "alfajores" at La Olla de Cobre!
Take a bus from the main bus terminal (Terminal de Omnibus de Buenos Aires). There are usually buses every hour - be sure to check the schedule online. We traveled with Chevallier for about $14 USD per person, roundtrip (December 2023).
The journey takes about 2 hours and you will be dropped off at a gas station (GNC Puma) just outside of town (about a 15 minute walk to the main square, Plaza Ruis de Arellano). Then, take a taxi to your chosen estancia.
