I agree but with a big mug of freshly pressed apple cider heated with spices (cinnamon, cloves , allspice). I'd feel better about eating the icing if it was made with fruits like banana, dates, and of course the spices in the original recipe.
Gingerbread smells so good baking. My mom used to make this occasionally throughout the year. She usually served it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, but I love the idea of brown butter frosting on this. 👍
I prepared this batter and baked in smaller pans as a Christmas present for my neighbors. It came out amazing! And the smell of spices filled the whole house.
I made this cake yesterday & it was delicious. I cut molasses down to 3/4 cup & added 1/4 cup Agave syrup & also added 1/2 brown sugar along with 1/2 sugar. We enjoyed the cake frosted with cream cheese frosting & froze 1/2 of the cake 😁
John!! Guess what??? Yesterday was my birthday and my husband gave me a big surprise... Your book!! I'm so excited to try all this amazing recipes. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge. Greetings from Vasque country. ❤️
Made this for Christmas Eve and it was a huge hit! It was super moist and flavorful without being too spicy. I added a little nutmeg but otherwise stuck to the recipe. Thanks for sharing!!!
Just made your gingerbread cake , absolutely amazing 👍 as you described perfectly soft switched molasses to acacia honey and maple syrup . Thank You ☺️
It was so nice meeting you Saturday at your book signing. Thank you for taking the time to meet and talk with all of us. I can't wait to try some new recipes!
To give a distinct look to her ginger or spice cakes, my Mom would lay an open patterned lacy crocheted doily on top of her cake. She would gently sift a light layer of powdered sugar over the doily. Then she would carefully lift the doily leaving behind a distinct pattern. I have used my cut out lacy paper snowflakes capturing the same effect. I imagine that you could use the cut out silhouette of any seasonal or theme design, even words or names. I have also used those paper doilies.
I remember the first time I've tasted gingerbread 😋 it was delicious but only I've eaten cookies never knew there was gingerbread cake hope to try this recipe for yule 🌨❄🕯❄🌨
Probably trying this on Christmas Eve. My family has a long tradition (from my Grandma 💛) of serving warm gingerbread with a warm brown sugar sauce (brown sugar, butter, cornstarch, water and vanilla). So yummy and warm, from the spices and the memories. 😊
Gingerbread cookies are my dad’s favourite! He asks for them the whole year 😱🤣 even though he knows I’m very traditional and strict only making these during the Holidays, so this might be the best edible gift ever 😅 too bad it won’t be for this year since the doctor has put him on a diet since he has to lose 15kg bc he’s becoming very overweighted 😔 I know he loves and enjoys everything yummy; savory or sweet, so I really hope he manages to get back to a healthy weight… I really want to make it just to show my love for him and thank him for his unconditional love and support all my life. Daddy, I love you - when you reached the goals the doctor has set this’ll be my reward to you for all the hard work you did to get there and to make up for all the lost treats during… ❤
I have been SEARCHING YT for a Gingerbread Cake Recipe for the last 3 Months!! lol… And yaaaaayyy I FINALLY Found THE ONE!!! Yaaasssss!!! Thank you John!!! ❤️💚🎄💚❤️🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
Oh, my. Gingerbread is my favorite food group! When I was a kid, my mother made a gingerbread cake that I just loved. No frosting or powdered sugar in it; she’d serve it warm and we’d cut it open and spread a little butter on it. That was heaven for me! If I were to do a frosting, I’d probably go with a cream cheese frosting instead of buttercream. My favorite gingerbread as an adult has Guinness in it for an extra depth of flavor. The combination of a stout beer with the molasses and spices is just wonderful.
Awesome recipe! Your videos have me cooking with my daughter! I've been trying to get her interested in cooking for years. Thank you. Your book was her gift for the feast day of St Nicholas today (Dec 6). Thanks ❤️❤️
Hi John. Just got your book today in France. It was quite damaged during the shipping but I am still super excited to have it. Can't wait to try the recipes! thank you 🙂
Thank you so much. Everything I have made from your channel turns out amazingly! I will be making this for my colleagues. They went bananas over your mini cheesecakes! You are the best.
I grew up in Amish country PA Lancaster county and we had gingerbread cake like that and it was served with a lemon like a lemon curd on the top it was absolutely fabulous wish I had the recipe for it I bet you would love it since you said you love the addition of lemon zest try it sometime instead of the sweet icing I think you'll really love it another way the Amish eat it is with applesauce over the top and that also is delicious
One can never have too many ginger molasses cake recipes, and this one looks fabulous. Thank you. I would probably swap some orange for the lemon, though, in a cream cheese frosting.
thank you, John! I will make this, I LOVE gingerbread! I'll make it in a bundt pan with 1:1 gf flour and a dusting of powdered sugar. Every video you create is like a wonderful gift. Happy Holidays to you!
The coincidence, I too have around half a cup of brown butter in the refrigerator, kept for a banana cake frosting, but I'd rather use it for this! I made the pineapple upside down cake for my friend's birthday, everyone loved it! Thank you John! You're a blessing! 🙏🏽♥️
I love this recipe - I had forgatten that a cake wirh ginger is so yummy, thanks for the reminder and definitely with that wonderful frosting! ( keto style foe me :)
This brings back good memories. My mom would make this for desert but always topped it with fresh whipped cream. Must be in our blood. My son is a huge fan of ginger snaps 😄 do you ever make Gingerbread houses?
