Learn to create an easy swing with this simple golf tip to improve your backswing.
Senior golfers often site their lack of distance down to poor flexibility and injury issues. While this can be the case...for many of my clients they misinterpret how to make a correct turn in the backswing.
In this weeks golf lesson you will learn how to complete your golf swing so that you have more energy stored and can generate more distance.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RU-vid and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Danny, before I found your site I had over a thousand videos of golf instruction. once I found you and saw some of your videos, I deleted all others. There are many others with better video quality than yours, but I find yours much more doable, clear and easy to follow. THANKS!

This is exactly how I looked when I discovered your videos. Swinging around led to a sway and consequently loss of power. A more general comment: you are one of the few golf coaches on RU-vid who has nothing to sell...no premium membership that promises to give you the "secret," and no expensive training aids. Thank you.

Danny, I just found your channel this past week and I'm blown away by the vast amount of knowledge you have, and your willingness to share your teaching! Thank You! I have not only subscribed to your channel, but also began implementing much of your simple and wonderful teaching and tips. I'm 61 years of age and just coming back to playing golf after 9 years away from the game due to back issues. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to getting my HC back down where it was years ago, and simply being on the course. But this time, learning (from you) how to be more of a "from the ground up" player. I'm looking forward to going thru your archives and learning the game afresh and anew! Thank you so much again for your outstanding instruction!

One of the few instructors who promote the benefit of stored energy in the club head at the top of a more upright swing, rather than a flat swing. Can't argue with the physics of this. Years ago I discovered that a more upright swing will provide more power, and have always wondered why. Danny has really explained this well; if you can get the club higher in the back swing, it adds natural power.

Thank you Glen, it's certainly a lot easier than trying to make a massive turn. Not realistic for the average player 😁

Also what I've noticed Danny is the only online instructer who answers all comments ...... highly rated in my book .... by the way my slice disappeared this afternoon, I bought a stiff shafted titleist 913 driver ... first 10 balls or so we're only ok bit of a slice going on ... but then I did a bit of tweaking and holy moly I started hitting that ball straight ... couldn't believe it ... so I hit another and boooom another one .... I knew it was the old driver with a very flexible shaft

Mr. Maude you make your dad proud, keep it up.

Before watching this video, I have never understood what it means to ‘hit down on the ball’. I also was never sure which arm starts the backswing, which would cause me to tense up, which further led to confusion as to which path the club face should take going back. You cleared that question up for me. I also noticed that your right knee stays in line with the right foot during the back swing. I imagine that this would increase the torque created by the backswing, transferring power from the leg all the way up to your back, shoulder, arms, hands, and finally to the club face. You make it look easy. Thank you! I’ve subscribed!

I came across Danny’s content a few days ago and it instantly struck a chord. His explanations make a lot of sense and he has a way of de-mystifying golf. Not all coaches take this approach and I really wonder whether they could have operated in a world without Trackman etc. I suspect that Danny can tell you more about how you struck the ball from the noise of the impact and the direction of the divot than some of these guys can with their multi thousand pound devices.

These concepts really worked for me. Hitting longer and straighter with less effort. I did note that it helps to be aware of bending the right elbow soon enough. Also, being sure that my right wrist has a little more cocking action at the top. Somehow -the big mystery of golf- the club finds it way back and nicely through impact.

Hi Danny. I have been subscribed to your channel now for a couple of months and have gone back and watched all of your content from before that time. I'm a 57 year old hack that has some physical ailments. I've had lower spine fusion surgery (1994), 5 left knee operations over the last 40 years, neck surgery a few years back and hurt every time I play golf. Reality is though I'd be more miserable if I didn't play. I've never made an excuse for poor play because of my physical ailments. Rather I try to find ways to swing more efficiently. I've tried on my own without much success. Since I've come across your channel I think I can utilize what you teach to help me. I don't need to hit it a mile. All I need is to hit it solid and keep it in play. I live in an area where golf is done for the year but I'll be looking forward to trying some of your stuff next spring and to a limited extent this winter. This video was great. Always look forward to your weekly releases!

Danny, I have started watching your videos and they are all helpful. I am 75 and I've had four back surgeries. I have found your instruction quite helpful as I have very li.ited flw ibilitu. I'm now able to get more distance using leg movement rather than hip rotation to achieve body turn. I also have benefited from the catapult swing method. The problem I have is I've had to watch multiple videos to piece it all together. It would be great if you had one video that combined all these tips in one showing. Maybe you do and I just haven't seen it. Let me know if this is the case. Thanks, Dave

OK so I watched this about 6 weeks ago. I'm recovering from both left shoulder ligament and elbow tendon damage. Also have problems with my hips and knees. In short I have terrible history with my connective tissues but I'm not a senior yet. Anyway I've been looking for a more gentile approach to my swing to reduce impact and found this and a penny has dropped. This should be PREACHED to slicers. This isn't just for the more senior golfers. Not one's with injuries either. This literally revolutionised my path and has me hitting flags. Thanks for the tip! - and suggest you should probably put out more material on this idea. I follow a lot of instruction - both on the range and via video - and this has pretty much single handedly got me looking like a single figure player (I'm playing off 13 at mo).

I just love your videos Danny with your honesty and great tuition , but I think the most common fault with us armatures is that we don't wait for the club to finish it's back swing, resulting in poor shots! to much in a rush to hit the ball, We don't give our body enough time to get our weight over to the left side when following through! I watched a Fred couples swinging the other day and noticed in how relaxed this guy was and how he generated power by just relaxing his body and getting his weight over to his left side on his follow through, hate him! But what an ambassador he is to the game of golf that we all love and wish we could all swing like him! That is my goal and I am trying so hard to swing like him, it only lasts for the first four holes before I start swiping at the ball again lol! I am 67 years of age and it has took me 50 years to realise that it is not in how hard you hit the ball, it is all about timing and relaxation of the body that generates power to the swing! Just shows you that you are not to old to learn in this game we all love!

Hi Danny good tips as always. I am 68. My back swing is probably about halfway back. Yet my shoulder turn is full, left shoulder under chin if that makes sense. If I try to take the club back to horizontal then it collapses and throws my timing out. My swing thought is shoulders under chin with a complete follow through. My drives are about 250 yards. I often hear in the background how does he hit it that far with half a swing. I believe it's a combination of full shoulder turn, late hinge release and follow through. Keep up the good work👍
@DanielMaude
@DanielMaude 4 года назад
John H I think that’s great distance and as we are finding out with players like John Rahm and Tony Finah, it’s not always necessary to have a long backswing for power

@@DanielMaude Hi Danny. Thank you for your reply. Just thought I would give you an update. I had a lesson with my clubs pro regarding trying to get more trajectory. When looking at the trackman video the pro pointed out the reason why I can't take the club fully back. It was so bloody obvious that I can't believe I hadn't realised this. My shoulders turned fully yet my hips stayed just about static. I turned my hip to about 45 degrees and from there it was so easy to complete the shoulder turn taking the club shaft back horizontal pointing to the target. Now the crazy thing is that I can do this with practice swings yet when I put a ball down I revert back to a halfway back swing. Have been doing this for so long, my muscle memory kicks in to my comfort zone. Was at the range yesterday practicing with my p/wedge. I video my swing and only managed a couple of full turns striking the ball crisp. I was amazed an extra 25 yds and more trajectory. Can't wait to get back to the range. Can you please advise a tip or drill to create new muscle memory for this new full back swing. I am literally going from a vertical shaft to a full turn to horizontal pointing to target. Great videos and lessons. Much appreciated.

Extremely relevant approach. So much instruction focuses on achieving a big turn around when it seems we should be thinking more up and down and less around. Also, a lot of emphasis is on hitting from the inside, not lifting with the arms and not coming down steep. How is this possible if the primary motion is more lifting and less turning?

Hi Danny, I have always struggled with a flying right elbow spending hours trying to correct it. After viewing this video, I now believe my issue is finishing the backswing too flat and I need to be more vertical. The up down clapping the hands movement really struck a chord with me. I am really tall and really old and your direction makes the backswing much more natural for me. I have mentioned earlier that I would like to get into the line for online lessons. Thanks, Buddy

Great lesson. At 76 I use the type of swing you suggest with my irons although I do have a problem with digging the toe of the club in. I am trying to develop a modified version for my driver but the shaft is to long. I think I need to get my hands lower to level the club. I still slice the driver but I am working on your lesson about slicing.

I agree with your ideas Danny. I fell victim to all the BS about keeping the right elbow tucked in, the towel drill and 'you must use the big muscles' mantra ala Faldo and Leadbetter which only works if you practice every day and can turn like a pro. For the weekend warrior, there doesn't seem to be any harm in letting the right elbow fly and concentrate on the left arm only, in an up and down movement instead, which I think is what you are driving at.
@DanielMaude

bruce ob absolutely, keeping the arms very connected is fine for pitching when you are controlling distance but when not so good when you want to maximise it

Hi Danny, im from malaysia and my age is 50 years old now. I started playing golf just about 2 and half years already. Everytime in playing golf, its kinda getting better and better. Now i try to play drilled and its look working but sometimes not. For your info, im standing on my right feet before i shift my body weight to my left feet, its kinda im swaying a bit of my body from right to left. My question is... how far i should place my club head to the ball? It is because sometimes i hit the ball on top, could u please solve my problem... thanx *to tell u the truth, my game getting better and better after i started watching your videos. I really admire how u teach golfing in your style and it is easy for me to learned it from u. U such a very good "Sifu" or " Guru". Please keep it up bro...

Danny, great instruction. I have the tilt, the turn and get the club up high. However, really struggle on the down swing with over the top which is causing shots to fade or slice. I was hoping you would go a little deeper in your explanation of the down swing and how to correct this problem that I am sure causes a lot of frustration for many golfers. Thanks.

I find that what you have shown good for irons from 5 up..longer irons need to be a slightly flatter swing like a Driver to woods. As we get older, I am 70 with a paunch, bringing the club more upright I tend to come in on on out to in path, where if I am a bit flatter the head comes down from the inside and towards just right of the target for a draw on the ball ... hey thats me but I enjoy your tips

Thanks for the video. I'm 67 with plenty of physical issues. My swing is naturally high but my attack angle and club path are generally negative (too steep and too outside in). I have been trying to change that by leveling/flattening my back swing. Is that wrong?

Nice vid Danny! Not a senior, but definitely taught me a few things about the backswing. I'm guilty of trying to wrap that club around my back. I'd love to see a video on how to keep the clubface square at impact. I don't know how I got into that habit, but everything is going right on me :(

@@DanielMaude With a 7 in my hand, they immediately go right and very high. Even the ones that manage to go a little straighter have a tendency to be very high, but ultimately short of the distance I used to get. As I get into my hybrids and woods, they'll start right and then continue right in the air lol.

@@DanielMaude It's funny you say that because I was on the course today with my dad and he was saying the same thing. Looks like my toe line and shoulder line are not parallel to each other. I guess I'll start there. It's not something I've really given much thought to.
@ScottoSoHotto82
@ScottoSoHotto82 5 лет назад
So just a quick follow up, after doing a bit of research, it looks like keeping my toe line parallel to the ball target line is the correct alignment...and something that I never have done lol. I usually try to have my lead shoulder pointing to target and then feeling as if I'm aligned. Based on diagrams I saw, I believe it's called a close alignment

I think a big problem is we're constantly told to not come over the top. But coming over the top is NOT what you're showing here. Coming in steep is fine as long as 12 o'clock (the lowest part of your swing) is toward the ball. It's actually better because it's less lateral movement which means less slicing or hooking. Where it gets into a problem is if 12 o'clock is toward the target (and is below the ground), so you end up chopping the ball to adjust, almost like an axe swing. That's what coming over the top really is. So I'm thinking people have a bad swing because they misunderstand what coming over the top really is and they have a "shallower" swing, but 12 o'clock is still toward the target. So it's not a chopping motion, but still the same problem and way more prone to slices and hooks. I should make an animated video showing this. Actually, I do renders in my spare time. This would be a cool project I think. Time to model me some 3D golf clubs.
