Paul, I want to thank you for not only making DIY-accessible haircuts for those of us without a budget for the salon, but also your humor. You are a funny dude and I enjoy your jokes throughout!
This haircut was done years before Brad Mondo ever came onto it and it took him several tries to refine. I first saw it done by a nice Midwestern woman sometime around 2015 and it was a short and sweet demo on really long hair. I’ve been cutting my hair myself ever since with a few refinements from a nice Filipino hairdresser to give it more definition on the sides. It’s simple and looks great. My hair has grown out, is healthy, and I never leave crying.
I've been cutting my own hair for nearly a decade and wanted something different.. searched butterfly cut and after getting through all the Mondo bots, I clicked on this one. Great explanation, easy to follow and you're FUNNY. Instant sub. ❤
Me and my Boyfriend just cut my hair watching your video following your steps and so far it looks 😃👍 my boyfriend loves it he said it looks like I just had a makeover. It feels better the top is so much lighter I feel like a lot of strain that was in the back of my head near my neck is gone. My boyfriend can't stop talking about how hot I am and it looks so much better. Thank you sir
This keeps enough hair to make it still feel substantial, but takes off enough weight to give the gorgeous layers and extra volume and body. Gorgeous !
Im going to give this cut a shot tomorrow. If I mess it up Ill tag you in my video with your video playing in the background on a green screen and me just standing there silently with tears coming down my face. Its a sure win to gain some social media attention for you and me both.
Y would he skip the most crucial part??? We need to see him actually sectioning and putting the hair in these 3 pony tails 🤦🏽♀️ . im not even gonna finish watching cuz that just annoyed me
You didn't actually watch the whole way through, but still felt the need to comment? If you watched to the end you would understand it better. He shows the 3 ponytails and how they affect the cut.
@@alexisbalmer4675 no because how would a person show step #1 last ? that doesn’t make sense why not go in the correct order? Either way im sure this video was helpful for many people so great job regardless.
Oh goodness! That hair is almost identical to my hair, the color and texture… but my hair is almost to my knees. It is SOOO heavy and thick. I’m trying to work up the nerve to cut it myself. I want long layers.
I laughed sooo hard when you started shaking the head omg 🤣 cracked me up. But I’ve never done a cut on myself before so I would have needed to see the actual parts and how the ponytails were put in there and a comparison of a before and after picture. I didn’t like the ends and how they came to a “V” shape and are scraggly. Does this cut make the hair go into a “V” or is the mannequin like that already? Cute video!! Thank you!!
This is the second time in two years that I cut my hair with your videos. I have just done this one and it looks amazing 🤩 my hair feels so much healthier and also I like the waves that this haircut gives. I also think that my hair (semi wavy and thin hair) works good with this haircut so it depends on how long you have your hair and if it works for your type of hair! Thank you 🙏
I'm about to do this on my hair! But I just really want to say, this guy is freakin funny! 😂😂 (When he does the hand flying for the butterflies) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Paul can you please do a second part of this video where you record yourself sectioning off the ponytails please? And then maybe heat styling this cut also?🙏🏼 thank you🩷
beautiful! btw, just to have that hairstyle more on the strong V shape what trick would you recommend, after the technique of the 3 ponytails? thanks I have been using this technique but creating the ponytails horizontally and not vertically. It works well too. thanks for the video
Hi Paul 😊 is there a way to use the same ponytail methods on short hairstyles? Like for a short shag or a long pixie, would that work? Love your videos!!! Never stop making them ❤❤❤
You forgot to show us the parting in the end of the video 😭🧐🤷🏼♀️ please one more video whit the drawing 🕵🏼♀️🙏🏼😄🥰 anyways, thank you for teaching us ✨🦄 Sending all my love and support from Norway 🇳🇴 😘
I was wonering... I've seen some people cutting the strands in a horizontal line but you did it in a more diagonal line, right? Is there any difference in them? If there is, which one would be more suitable for someone with thick hair who is not very fond of volume?
I did Brad Mondos butterfly cut a week ago and I’m not entirely thrilled with it. This cut seems to be more of what I had envisioned. Do I need to wait for my layers to grow out now to try this cut or could I do it now?
He did a quick version of showing he showed where the sections were at. 2 inches back right at the hair line. 1st sect. Highpointright behnd ear on second point combed up to front pony smoothly then back ...
I don’t know whether to be pee’d off of kind of happy my hair isn’t long enough to do this 😂, I’m bad enough faffing with sections as it is…arm ache lol ..floofy curly frizzy hair that goes,I don’t want a parting there thank you very much 🙈
Así lo quiero,Pero nadie da en el punto,lo tengo más abajo de la cintura! Siempre quise este corte, dado que no me queda como quiero nunca ,ya no me lo corto!
When cutting each section.... on ourselves..... do we have to cut up first like you and then cut across when softening??.... or can we just cut straight across both times and get the same effect???❤❤❤❤
Can this cut be adapted to growing out full bangs? My bangs are at about my cheeks but the rest of my hair is long and I'd like to add some layers to the length to blend more with the bangs growing out stages. Thank you!
Yeah so just don’t do it. Your layers will beautifully feather out laying nicely any way. I hate point cutting and when hairstylists have done it. Ultimately you know your hair best and how it reacts to ways it’s cut and the products it likes or doesn’t like. You got this!
I llve your humor. Especially the part when you talk about how stylist always fussing with the hair after the cut telling you how gorgeous it looks 😂. I always know its for show but I cant help but love the drama. Completely unessary hair fondling.
@Paulwattshair Hi! If you dont mind me asking, how does this hidden ponytail cut differ from the hidden butterfly cut where you have a ponytail on top of the head (with hidden ponytail), and a ponytail on the forehead (with hidden ponytail)? I have very fine hair past my waist and im trying to figure out the best method or combination of your methods! I would love the result to make my hair look as thick and full as possible without losing length. I love the look of wild, tapered rock n roll looking hair, ... I love the base in a tapered V shape, but i still need all my layers to be long, esp since my hair is so fine, and also, i do not like that mullet type of look where the front layers are short and shelf-like lol. I wouid like some face framing layers, but not going too deep into the rest of the hair, becasue that will also take away from the density of the rest of my fine hair. So basically I would love a long layered voluminous look on my waist length hair, (that will keep the length) with a few face framing layers (so i have a few pieces to pull down to make a ponytail or updo look prettier). From your expertise, which of your methods or combination of methods (this one, the original hidden butterfly one, or even the one where you put one ponytail on the very top of the head) do you recommend? Ive been trying to figure out and predict the outcome with each of these or with trying to incorporate a few of these methods, but im so confused and really need your help! Thank you!!
I’m in a similar situation (fine hair, somewhere between waist and hip length) and want some layering and face framing but worried about ending up too thin. What I think I’m going to do is the modified version I saw by Christina Marie where she does the 2 ponytail method, but leaving out the bottom layer of the hair so that the bottom doesn’t end up too thin/tapered/not such an aggressive V, and also she cuts at an angle rather than straight so the layering isn’t as short/dramatic. And I’m not going to take loads off, can use the bits I left out as a guide for how short I can go without losing much length. And then I’m going to do some shorter face framing pieces at the front and blend them in rather than doing the entire front ponytail really short, as I can’t afford to lose that much density
@@meinkanta Thanks for replying! Sounds like you and I are thinking along the same lines! I have also watched Christina Marie and her hair turned out gorgeous, although she has probably 10x the amount that I do! I do like the idea though of leaving that bottom layer out, esp because with my hair being so fine, I don't think that layer is def the length, I think some of my length comes from a little higher up if that makes sense, so at least leaving that bottom layer out will preserve something just in case all goes wrong! Have you watched Paul's video where all the hair is pulled up on top of the head (not on the forehead or above the eyebrows) into one ponytail? I'm wondering what the results of that would be ( pulling everything/cutting straight up) instead of over directing one (unicorn) or both (butterfly) ponytails to the front? I'm not very good with visualization, but I think the single ponytail on the top high point of head might be safer since the front pieces have to travel further , possibly avoiding any disconnection in the front and possible shelf like layers....that what im really afraid of, because I don't have enough density for mistakes😂. Please keep me posted with your thoughts and hopefully we can figure something out together...but I do think we are on the right track with Christina's modified version!
@@meinkanta The video I mentioned in the above comment so you can reference it is How to cut Voluminous Layers 2024, it's from 3 months ago. What I like about that one is he takes so little off, but it makes such a difference. So I wonder if it would be safer to start with that one and go from there. The only thing that concerns me with that one is that Paul mentions that that cut is more of round layers, and in my research I have read that square layers are better for finer hair. So I just left a comment on that video asking Paul if there is a way to modify the way the hair is held/angle of the cut to make the layers square. I hope he sees it and can help us! But I'm curious as to what your opinion is too!
