Easy Homemade Tahini Recipe - How to Make Tahini

Making tahini at home is easy and much less expensive than buying from the store. We recommend looking for sesame seeds in bulk bins or at International, Asian and Middle Eastern markets for the best deals. While tahini can be made from unhulled, sprouted and hulled sesame seeds, we prefer to use hulled (or natural) sesame seeds for tahini. Tahini can be kept in the refrigerator for a month.

I just made this today as well as your hummus recipe and both of them came out PERFECT. You saved me a nice bit of money on the tahini recipe. My sesame seeds were around $4.75 for a nice size bag but the pre made paste was over $8.00 and I still have a lot of seeds left to make more paste with! We love sriracha in my house so I added 1tbs of it to my hummus and OMG it is even more DELISH!!!! Thanks for these recipes!

Tahini is so expensive in my country but sesame seeds are relatively cheap so I made my own tahini for the first time yesterday and I intend to use some of it to make hummus. I used to have a magic bullet but after many years of use it stopped working. Instead of buying a new one I bought a braun 9 piece blender, masher etc. It was more expensive but I've used it so often it was worth tthe investment. I hope whatever machine you purchased will be as useful to you as mine is to me.

Hi! I love your video, and I recently tried making this recipe. However, I was unable to process the sesame seeds into a fine paste due to them constantly sticking to the sides of the food processor (and not getting touched by the blades any more). I am new to food processing, and wonder what I could do to help fix this problem. Edit: I forgot to mention that I used pre-toasted sesame seeds... could this be the reason?
@inspiredtaste
@inspiredtaste 8 лет назад
Using pre-toasted seeds should not have caused any issues. How large is your food processor? It is possible the bowl is larger than ours, making it more difficult for the seeds to break down. If your processor came with a mini bowl that can be inserted into the middle of the regular bowl, it may be a better bet for breaking down the seeds. You could also try making a larger batch.

I actually tried to make my own tahini, by FIRST grinding the toasted seeds in a coffee grinder, then adding the oil after. It was really smooth

I haven't tried it yet, but you may be able to grind the sesame seed in a mortar.
@LinkEX
@LinkEX 5 лет назад
@@isfinannaire9877 You would, but it would take forever. At that point, buying the Tahini from the store will be cheaper when you factor in the time you'd be busy mashing about 20g of seeds at a time until they are crumbly.
@isfinannaire9877
@isfinannaire9877 5 лет назад
@@LinkEX That's true. I, personally, would only resort to that if the only store in the area that sells Tahini closed.

It’s best to add sesame oil since you’re already using sesame seeds to make tahini

For anyone wanting measurements • 1 cup (5 ounces or 140 grams) sesame seeds, we prefer hulled • 2 to 4 tablespoons neutral flavored oil such as grape seed, canola or a light olive oil • Pinch of salt, optional

Is it ok to use butter instant of oil?
@ramenqueen_1013
@ramenqueen_1013 10 месяцев назад
@@SumaiyaAkter-fd1mf It would probably be better to use oil but I’m sure you could use butter instead
