I’m planning on breeding my bettas soon, picking one of my females from the sorority for my male. I will probably do this in a month or two. Thanks for sharing this great info
I actually really enjoy this in comparison to most other betta breeding videos- you actually explain *what* to look for in the female to point out she's ready, as well as explain the conditioning process and future proofing. I really appreciate that! I have a blue rimmed female, and everyone kept telling me "When she's showing stripes she's ready." But I also didn't know you'd have to consider the size of her egg pouch and feeding her up etc, so cheers!
Great info, enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing l learnt a lot from you, and so far yours is fantastic, not full of jargon was great and informative, interesting and straightforward, thanks
After a year of research (well 11mo😅), buying all my equipment (which was a lot less painful than I thought), getting all tanks cycled and plants grown out, I just bought my females today to start my journey into breeding my own. Color genetics took me forever to learn and honestly I don’t think I’m much closer than where I started 😂 Why can’t they be easy like snakes 😅 I’m so nervous and excited! I have a few mom and pop pet sores that have agreed to buy some from me so I feel a little less overwhelmed in that department. Sometimes it pays to be in a rural area 😅 Thank you so much for all your videos!
And you might be making a whole bunch of money there old man! 😉The best of everything to you and yours and many more years to come! I would love to hear if you gave it a go! I’d like to get my 22 year old son involved in this with me, don’t know if I could do it alone though
I watched another video and I followed exactly to the t minus some things. up Amazon bubble package that I made into a square. I recently removed the female and now I’m just gonna wait
I am considering doing a breeding , I have 2 cycled 5 gallons one for a male and one for a female , I also have a big plastic bin for the breeding , the only question I have is what do I feed the babies when they are born , I know u said vinegar worms but could I use crushed flake food or is that too big for them and also how old do they need to be to sell
I have twice attempted to breed my male betta- a half moon double tail. The first time was with a female half moon double tail and the mail ended up killing her. The second time I removed the female before he could kill her but she was in rough shape. This female was also a half moon but not double tail. I placed in a clear container in the breeding tank the evening before over night he created a small bubble nest so in the morning I released her. Could the male simply be too aggressive? Or could the breeding container be too small and she just couldn’t get far enough away for his liking?
Thank you When the babies start swimming sticking do you take both parents out. And as they grow when do you separate them and do you just put them in little cups?
Not sure if you answer questions?but i have a pair that seem to be doing okay and I'm keeping my eye on them in a small tiny tote that you put all your nick-nacks our children's markers in but I have a 20 gallon elongated tank if I put like 4 to 5 in of water in it and gave her a hiding spots and made it natural do you think that they can naturally make this happen without me paying attention to them?
Yeah i reckon that would probably work. Id still probably separate the female where i can to give her a rest but people definitely breed them in ponds etc. I try to answer as many questions as i can 😅
My female released her eggs upon being taken out of the isolation box. Male has collected them and put into the bubble nest but he’s ignoring the female. What does this mean?
Such a good video, I feel comfortable going into a project like this with this video in my arsenal. I’m going to see if my son wants to get involved! And subscribed!
I just got two males for the first time in years both very healthy. They are making beautiful bubble nests with no females so I’m considering breeding them. They are both very protective of the nests so I’m sure they’d make great father’s. Thanks for the info it helps a lot
I’m wondering if my female is too small. She’s tried to mate with other females so I’m like hey, you first..? Lol but idk how small is too small…? Even if she has a sack?
Hi Blake I have a 60ltr tub with betta fry in it. It's filled a third of the way up so around 20ltrs of water. I'm feeding BBS and inject them in 3 - 5 times per day. It's been 2 weeks now and I noticed whilst doing a water change yesterday the water tastes like salt water and even the snails are moving to the top of the water column or out of the water. Im injecting about 120ml of salt water every feed. The fry are really healthy and growing fast. Is the salt water harmful if I'm doing 50% water changes every week?
a little salt isn't bad but that quantity I would say isn't a good idea long term. I would drain the bbs through a coffee filter before feeding fry in a small container.
I've tried breeding bettas and basically gave up due to an increase of my females dieing after I attempt breeding them but I dont understand what I'm doing wrong. Ideas?
Hey mate i have my nemo beta and he’s very interested in the female he built the bubble nest and I released the female about 9 hours ago and no breeding and she keeps following him when he approaches her how long should I wait before I seperate her and also should I seperate her in a divider or take her out of the tank?
@@BlakesAquatics So I am currently thinking on breeding koi bettas. So once the bettas spawn and the fry hatch and grow what should I do with them as they probably wont have a lot of space and there will be a lot of bettas?
Hello. My male betta fish looks really interested in the female betta, but he's not building his bubble nest. He's only really circling around the female's container, do you know why and when he'll make the nest?
Thank You Blake, I have watched many videos and not one has said, you answered what I wanted to know. How much water, temp. and if I leave a light on 24hrs. You answered all 3. thanks again
Thank for your great video. I tried to cross a male butterfly betta with a fancy Plakat female. The male betta made a bubble nest and female one got a big stomach but they won't spawn. My male betta is too aggressive and regect the female. Sometimes he dance for the female but the female always runs away.
@@melissadixon4091 i wouldn't replace either, id keep trying because to me it sounds like typical courting behaviour. Can take a few goes to get it right
Their natural breeding response is to blow bubble nests under leaves. I find it just helps to give them the idea to get a nest going under the bubble wrap
@@BlakesAquatics hey thanks. I successfully did my first breeding with bettas from watching your vids. But i came today to see how the eggs were doing and there are a lot less eggs. Do the males eat the eggs too? I tried feeding him to prevent that but he never took the food. I didn’t know if he was just focused on taking care of the eggs or he’s full from eating them. This sucks i had dozens and now maybe 10 i see. Not sure what to do
Is it ok to breed in a 20gal tank? I plan to put a divider first leaving out about 1/4 of the tank during the breeding period and remove it once the fry are free swimming
I'm thinking about breeding my bettas soon in a few months but when do I take the male out after the babies are out? Iykwim ? What age do they need to get separated?
Hello Blake! Thanks for this video, I’m going to start breeding betta soon. At what point should you separate the babies into different tanks? I’d just like to know before I start the process. :)
Have you thought of 3D printing a replacement or better for a fluval spec v mine is currently tin foil as I find the lid that comes with not fit for purpose. Thank you
Hi buddy I am really wanting to breed bettas and I have tried it with 2 pairs and have a 3 pair but the first few pairs did not succeed first pair the male was scared of the female second pair the female released all the eggs while conditioning and now I have a third pair which is a platinum I have spent way to much to breed with no success☹
Hey mate sorry to hear. I cant stress enough how important it is to condition them separately. Make sure they are both super fat and happy before putting them together. Get the heat up and make the breeding area boring. The male should have a nice big bubble nest that will be worth defending even from an aggressive female
Can you breed any type of male with any female of a different species? I have a galaxy koi male. and some vieltail females id like to breed. thank you.
@@BlakesAquatics thanks for the quick response! Awesome that makes sense. My male looks very bright and colorful like yours but even more so. And female blue vieltail i think could make for some beautiful fish if they breed.
I have bred bettas many times for years, it works every time for established pairs but new pairs i might have to separate and try again 2 or 3 times before they get it right
My male keeps making a bubble nest, but hes not around any females. Does that mean he wants to breed? Or is there other reasons they blow bubbles at the serface?
How do you go about finding people to sell them too or pet stores? Would petco or petsmart buy the babies? How big do babies have to be before you sell them?
I sell them locally just online or you can sell on sites like aquabid. In my experience big box stores dont take them as they have such good prices on wholesale stock anyways. best off with small stores or online.
Your video was great it was like you were teaching a class I'm trying to breed my bettas right now it's a lot more tedious then like convicts and Jack Dempsey's this sounds horrible but i bread so many convicts I used them as feeder fish :(
