This is what SPA mode is for. You moved an existing waypoint over to a detected target. But if you don't have a nearby waypoint to repurpose, do a radar fix in SPA mode. You can do up to 9 of them. It will not change your current destination when you take a SPA fix. You can set any of the recorded targets as your current destination using the normal 1-9 buttons (not B1-B9) while in SPA mode.
So if I'm understanding correctly: Radar to SPA mode, find target, T1 and TV to mark the target, then hit one of the keypad digits (say for example 1 to create waypoint Bx1)?
@wraith444 Bx points are not involved here. In SPA mode, pressing 1 will select recon target 1 as your destination and it will show as a red M1. (There is also a bug currently where you have to press T0 again after TV to set the fix.)
@@machalot ah, ok I see. Do recon targets show up in the HUD when switching to ANF mode? I have a bit of a hard time finding targets with mavericks at a reasonable range in the viggen so I'm hoping to use this method to narrow the search area a bit when I'm not 100% certain where the target is.
I actually don't think setting QFE is necessary for rockets. It will help when you are far away from the target, but as you get closer the radar will take over and at that point QFE is no longer used. I think it was the youtuber "Stellan Hilmerby" that said it - I guess he actually is an old Viggen pilot. He seems to know what he's talking about at least and I have had good results with not setting QFE for rockets.
Great info, thanks! I'm usually in the Viper so normally I'm just in the mindset of completely ignoring the A-G radar unless I'm hunting for moving targets... Clearly my approach needs a bit of a shake up with the viggen!
