We had 1954 sheet metal cabinets. Painted. In 1968 we bought inexpensive walnut contact vinyl which came in small rolls and meticulously covered the cabinets. Few people ever discovered the cabinets were not walnut. Several questioned how the grocery list was held up by magnets on wood. Now, those same mid-50’s cabinets are “collectible retro”. That contact stuff stayed on for 20 years.
A woman who wants to renovate her parents kitchen so takes out tools and does it herself ! RESPECT !!! Love your videos April. Always learn something when I watch your presentations.
April makes this process very simple. Because April is a professional. I have done that last year; it was time-consuming and tedious. I almost ripped everything and bought new cabinets.
I'm a retired self-employed cabinet maker and when I started out in the early 90s I done a few refront jobs using 3M peel and stick and to this day all the kitchens that are still around are all in great shape. It is true, that stuff sticks tenaciously.
I could have refinished these but wanted to try this option and am super happy with the results. So are my parents and I'm glad they love it. Thanks for watching.
We remodeled our kitchen. With the exception of the stone countertops, we did it all. The makeover you did in your parents kitchen looks absolutely fantastic! So crisp and clean! Another beautiful job by an awesome craftswoman. Your folks must be so darn proud of you! Keep up the great work! God bless.
I like how you utilize what you have and find affordable ways of making it better. That is what most people can achieve versus the task of buying tons of new material. Kudos again for showing people you can have nice things and not have to be a millionaire to have it!
April, I love your work and attitude. Everyone should be able to make their space fit what they want, as you helped your parents to do. That said, I prefer the “before”.
Been doing some drawers and faces myself in my shop so I can appreciate this video. Looking at our kitchen for the past 4 years. Appreciate your video. Thanks for Sharing!
The lower drawers are awesome. Makes the lower cabinets way more useful. I’m so happy that the house we bought already had these. No idea why this isn’t standard. Especially as I get older and don’t want to crawl around to get to the back of a lower cabinet.
1:53 3M’s architectural vinyl wrap. Been using for years on cabinets, tables, cars(use automotive though on outside, inside can be either), and so on. $M not only one who makes this stuff; BUT, is most popular for companies to source for getting from cabinet maker buying doors from (remember that; Cuz if do want different colors, they are out there, and textures). But good job, April, a tip….a felt card would help install this vinyl and helps the air release work….. Looks amazing, and this stuff is more durable than ppl think, as can be washed and scrubbed, just be mindful of cleaners using (like no bleach or seriously dilute it if use such cleaners). Cheers April, WOW, looks great👍🏻✌🏻 Having a j-roller can help too, along w/ edge banding type cutters
Great job April, turned out really good. Glad the folks liked the way it changed everything. Your Mom still has her ornery streak doesn't she ;-). Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred.
0.57 -> AUCH !!! hammer in the hinges ?? didn't expect this from you April ! as a former interior builder this hurts. The plastic plugs are supposed to be hammered in (softly) so that you can screw in the hinges. This would improve how long they last. PS have you considered to replace the old ones by 170 degree opening hinges, they are such an user improvement.
The cake thing could have also been, "it's a cakewalk" Love all your vids thanks for bringing us along with you. So cool to be able to do things for your parents AND get paid. :)
Hallo April, I am Norbert form Germany. My daughter just repainted your kitchen. However, she used special paint. In addition, she has painted the tiled mirror. Inspiration was your video Umgestallen im Bad. Thanks again for that.
Anyone thinking of doing this, do not hammer the hinges in like that. Remove the screws and hammer in the plastic plugs. The screws expand the plugs once in the holes
Beautiful job April. My taste runs to real wood, but having sold cabinets in a big box store for years, the painted look is definitely the trend. Yours and your mom's kitchens look terrific. The blue definitely stands out. For new countertop, consider quartz. Stay a way from granite (too much maintenance). Very informative video, Thanks.
The really sad part about this video is that my wife and I just updated our kitchen cabinets and they are the exact same ones you are re-doing for your mom--I am sooooooooo far behind the times lol -- Maybe if we wait long enough our cabinets will come back in style--Thanks for the video, for sharing your knowledge, skill, and expertise!!!!!!!!!!! Tim
Did NOT think that was new doors and drawer fronts from the thumbnail. Legit thought you used contact paper to makeover them just from the thumb, but MY GOSH thats amazing. I used to work in Kitchen Design and was well aware of a couple companies like Front & Center that just made doors and drawer fronts, but have never seen them put to use. Very nice.
This is a simple, yet significant update in your parents kitchen cabinets! Thanks for sharing this easy transformation to a modern style kitchen! First time I’ve seen or even heard of this product. Great install April…:)
I love it! I have cabinets from the 60s, ones that just recovered original backless frames from somewhere in the early part of the 1900s. I would love to upgrade, but the whole room would have to be ripped down to the studs. This would at least put a good face on.
For many, this is definitely the way to go. You'll never please all the people (read some of the comments) but what's important is if YOU like it! We love the look and so happy we did it. Thanks for watching.
Awesome work April, both kitchens look fantastic! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 .... Definitely seems like an awesome product/company to consider if I ever tackle this myself.
Thanks April for another option. I have an off topic question, in one of your recent videos you mentioned you now use a 3D program different than SketchUp. What program is it? Thanks again
We have American home shield since 2013. So far they have replaced my microwave three times, washing machine, and third floor AC unit. All with quality products. They’ve also repaired my dish washer twice, first floor furnace, and gave me $500 when our power went out and our food in our freezer was jeopardized. I pay around $77 a month and make sure I get my moneys worth!
Define budget. The idea is great but for the price I calculated, approx $300 per door x 13, and we haven’t even factored in drawer fronts of which I have seven.
No hate or shaming. It's all good. Everyone has different taste and that's ok too. We happen to love this and are delighted with the updated look. Thanks for watching.
We made this mistake of using this crap - $5500 and it lasted less than 2 years before the face frame strips peeled off. In the third year, the doors were done, company that installed it for us wouldn't stand behind it even though they promised a 10 year warranty when we bought it.
Hmmm. I tend to not swipe opinions with a wide brush. Several others have commented that even years later everything is as great as it was when installed. Perhaps your Installer did not follow all steps or do the proper length of time required, for many of the steps? Thanks for watching.
2:06 A heat gun will remove this stuff, fyi, if anyone wants to change up the colors/texture; but be mindful that depending on substrate underneath, it may peel up when removing vinyl w/ heat gun….so go slow, test a suction and adjust the air flow and heat using.
Ahhhh yes cabinet doors....my least favorite thing to install lol ♡♡♡ you did a great job! It looks beautiful!♡♡♡♡ Do they offer matching paint colors ? 👀
They have many color options to choose from but to individualize to each customer would be a royal pain not to mention I could imagine the cost increase. So probably not an option. Thanks for watching.
There have been several comments that they have held up for years and still as good as new. It's the look I wanted and that's ok. Everyone has different taste, that makes this an exciting world. Thanks for watching.
That's ok. I have no control over the clips Companies use. As long as it shows the process and product is all that is really needed, regardless of where it was originally filmed. Many Companies have overseas markets also and great for them. Thanks for watching.
I am such a utilitarian I really don’t understand changing out cabinets that are in perfect condition. This at least keeps a lot of material out of the landfills.
@@myfrontandcenter awesome! I'm considering building new cabinet boxes and perhaps I can get doors for them from you. It would definitely be a big time saver. I'm bookmarking your website!
