Should you lower your bike? If you're heels don't touch, that could be a problem pending on what your situation is. I'll happily scrape a skid plate instead of falling over because I don't have enough reach. For reference, I am 5'9"-5'10" pending on what Dr office measures me and have a 30in inseam. Below are the links mentioned in the video. Also here is a list of tools needed:
-Motorcycle jack/center stand
-Floor Jack
-22mm socket/wrench
-17mm socket/wrench
-12mm socket
-Loctite 243: amzn.to/3MBBNeU

I'm 5'11" and it was just too high and I did the Eagle Mike mod today and I love it. The stand is an issue, but thankfully, I already have the Eagle Mike quick stand.

I have the same bike, It was too tall for me. I traded a guy for his KLR650S suspension and I lowered mine using OEM parts. There was no need to modify the kick stand whatsoever. The Kawasaki OEM side stand part number 34024 is the same for KLR 650S and KLR650. There are people having to rework their side stand because they chopped it off after lowering.

You didn’t mention dropping your triple tree to level the front suspension to the new lower rear.

I did mine today and the max I was comfortable to do on triple tree was 3/4". Rides great.

Great informative vid sir! About to purchase a KLR650 Adventure. While I am 6'1"" with a 32" inseam, I am 68 and may need something like this on my bike. Keep up the great work!

Thanks! Glad it was helpful. I’ll keep putting videos up every week or so for awhile while I’m doing stuff on the bike :-)

If you carry tubes, some tools, whatever you want in some panniers of your choice, you'll stand flat footed without this modification, but then need to learn front tire planting offroad and standing. Unless you're buying this for a city slicker unit. Otherwise it radically takes the KLR from decent on offroad to dangerous, well unless your idea of off road is the occasional flat gravel. For the record, I have 2 now and have owned several. We did exactly this on my wife's bike, because there is a reason for it. But she just wanted to learn on pavement so a shaved seat and links were the answer. But you take that bike into a field and hit a bump your suspensipn will top out and probaly kick ya off, and I know this from experience. I would never buy a KLR if I had these issues. That's 450 lbs, plus yourself- of top heavy madness that is hard to control when it starts to go no matter what age or skill you have. Great bikes, they are, I love them. But a KLR is one of the hardest bikes to control when control gets rough. I highly suggest looking for a different model in this scenario. My 2 cents that is probaly worthless.

@@exposingthetruth3821 Too late, I done did it. Got me a '22 KLR Adventure. Gonna take a Herculean effort on my part to master this tall beast, but I will. Traded in a '21 Harley Road King and got 2 KLR's, one for me and one for my son. Gonna add some mods to it which should help me tame it, nonetheless, thanks for the input! Ride safe!

That’s a great video! I’ve yet to buy a KLR, but this helps a lot in my research. I like the bike a lot, found it to be surprisingly tall. It’s my biggest concern. I’m about your height and inseam, but hovering around 150 lbs. I’m not sure it’s the bike for me, but I’ve owned two Kawis previously. That detachable kickstand would be great for ferry trips to Vancouver Island. Cheers!
@rwalls88
@rwalls88 2 года назад
Oh yeah, the height is one of my biggest issues with the bike. I get my seat concepts seat that is 1” lower next week and will have a video on that as well. My biggest reason for staying KLR is all the options that are available, but buying a new model year they haven’t fully caught up in all the aftermarket products so that’s a touch annoying.

Preload should be adjusted weight, not sag. It’ll effect handling.

The rising links(shorter) give much improved ride

I made my kickstand adjustable. I'm assuming that most are similar. Mine was the right diameter so that I was able to Cut a section out and thread the inside with a tap for a 3/4" threaded rod and use a couple of jam nuts

Man I may have to do this. I am 5’5” and tippy toes on both sides. Barely touching. I get my lower seat tomorrow. Hopefully that helps a lot as I really don’t want to mod the bike

Great video! I have the same problem....How much longer the dogbone should be, considering the standard one, to lower it 2 inches? in mm? thanks!
@cybrnathan
@cybrnathan 2 года назад
You also need to raise your front forks 1/2" - 1" depending on how much you lowered the bike. Anytime you lower either end of a motorcycle, you must lower the opposite end (in this case raise the forks) an identical amount or it can affect handling.
@rwalls88
@rwalls88 2 года назад
Ya know that’s what they say, but this is the second KLR I’ve owned, and I’ve done the lowering links on both and never touched the forks. Never had a problem highway or off-road.
@cybrnathan
@cybrnathan 2 года назад
@@rwalls88 The previous owner of my bike didn't touch the forks after he lowered the rear, and I could tell it just didn't handle as well as it should. I raised my forks about an inch above the clamp, and it handles perfectly now

If im thinking right the KLR S model is lower and also i think the kickstand is shorter..

Can this only be done on a 2022 model? I was just at a shop and noticed the seat is also lower on the lower version.

Man im 5'11 and my 2018 klr 650 has me on tiptoes and ive almost dumped it several times standing still 😢 About the sag, if i drop it 2 inches and adjust sag to mid and adjust the front tubes and get the slim seat do you think id be able to sit flat foot?

don't know if you've altered your kickstand yet, but I just saw an adjustable klr kickstand on ebay, $100.
