Just had this for desert John. Easy to make and a good sized pudding. I’d say this would serve six people quite easily. I also made the lemon curd and was really impressed with how well that turned out. I t was delicious and everything got a thumbs up from everyone.

I scored half a dozen big beautiful lemons from my neighbour and have been trying to decide what to do with them. I think this is the winner. I need to use up some eggs too as my chickens are being very productive so I’ll make the lemon curd and also some custard. Perfect! I was thinking I wanted to steam the pudding but looking at that lovely crust I think I’ll bake it. I assume my Mason Cash pudding basin can go in the oven. Better check that!

If you want a great starter get John's and his book all his recipes are in it and I was tired of writing them down or bringing my computer to the kitchen, lol.... Wow!!!! I bought another of your books, a small whisk, wooden spoon, tea towel and some sourdough starter because I screwed mine up somehow and it was so strong I didn't like the taste of the bread. I I thought I would have to feed it for a few days... Nope! It was so active the next day I couldn't believe it. The smell is wonderful. I will be starting a bake tomorrow and am so happy! Thanks so much John. I hope I don't screw this on up but I know where to get more if I do..lol. Take care

The trouble is your cooking is so like my own (well we’re from the same part of the country after all) that I just like to watch and sit there nodding - it just reinforces that I’m doing things right 👍🏻😆 I was taught by my mum and gran how to cook. My gran was in service as a cook up until 1919. And a lot of her recipes were similar to yours 👍🏻

Firstly can I just say thank you Mr Kirkwood, for your extremely helpful & informative, not to mention enjoyable, baking videos. I'm late to the baking bug, & not at all confident, & your thorough explanations of your recipes is super helpful & much appreciated! Can I please ask you where you got your (non-stick?) pudding basin? I would love to try this recipe but am not keen on using the heavy ceramic type of basin, though they certainly would look beautiful in the kitchen! :)

You are very welcome Gwen, I bought that pudding bowl at our local supermarket one day, I've searched on line, but can't find it anywhere else, you can however use an ordinary ceramic bowl too.

i love your videos, the written recipe link is very informative. I think the ingredients list for this recipe should start with : 2 lemons. Besides the measurements for ingredients are in grams, ounces , ml, why not in cups also?

Hi John, lovely looking pudding. Sadly I'm a type 2 diabetic and it's off limits for me. 'She who must be obeyed' would love to know how to make me bread, cakes, biscuits etc but has yet to find a decent set of recipes for diabetics. Would you know of anything that is a good substitute for the things we diabetics are unable to have?
