Very beautiful turn outs!...I must say though, I've always been able to go straight to the epoxy immediately after dipping my cups using the oil based paints and never had any problems getting the epoxy to adhere to my paints. Must be something different in the products. I know all things are made differently 🤷‍♀ but nevertheless your cups are absolutely stunning! Great job! Thanks for sharing🙂

THank you. Sorry yours didn't turn out the way you wanted. It is all a learning process. Being able to use them on a dark base depends on the paint colors. Some are pigment based and more opaque. Others are dye based and transparent. Here is the Marabu product information. There is a chart that shows all of the colors and the opaque ones are marked with a dot. Those can be used over a darker base. I marked all of my opaque paints on the bottom with a sharpie. www.marabucreative-usa.com/our-products/marbling/

This might be a silly question but: Do you apply the epoxy twice at One time then let it sit for 2 hours and then take the tape off. Or do you do 1 coat take the tape off after a couple hours let it cure then re tape it and repeat the process?.

@VioletDoodlesBoutique 4 года назад
Here's my epoxy video that might help answer some of your questions. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HDJhMsWh3zg.html When I do the epoxy, I apply one coat and remove the tape between 20-60 minutes. Then after 7-12 hours, I will retape and repeat the process.

Got the paints and a glitter tumbler ready to go, but I have a question. I lightly sanded my glitter tumbler so that it is nice and smooth. Should I apply a thin coat of epoxy before I dip? I was wondering with the translucent marble paints if my sand marks may show if I didn't add another layer of epoxy (kind of like with water slides) but wasn't sure. Thanks, and those tumblers are beautiful!

I had the same thoughts about the scratches showing through like waterslide! I haven't tried it sanded; on all of mine, I made sure the epoxy was smooth and glossy just to be safe. Have fun dipping!

Your water may have been too warm, the time from the paint hitting the water to the cup being dipped could have been too long, too much paint, not enough paint... lots of factors. Every once in a while I have to wipe mine off and start again. My problems are usually water temp or time. You can wipe it off with acetone and start over if its not directly over paint.

Greetings, Excellent work. I ask? when do you remove the electrical tape? I am new to this and for the first time I made a tumbler that comes like the one you have but in black. I did not remove the tape, Btw used tape for painting, and when I finished the drying process of the epoxy I began to remove the tape and the epoxy came out with the paint and everything, I had only put a layer of epoxy. What is your recommendation
@VioletDoodlesBoutique
@VioletDoodlesBoutique 4 года назад
First, make sure you prep your cup well. Even if it comes in a color, it needs to be sanded and cleaned. Here's how I prep: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LAjpoMDMIUA.html Then, when you are taping off, I use electrical tape but painters tape will work, and I remove it between 15 and 60 mins. You don't want anything to dry or cure with the tape on. Here's another helpful video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HDJhMsWh3zg.html Hope that helps.

Are there any necessary steps that need to be taken before dipping the tumbler? I’ve watched a few videos on how to make this marble effect and they have all said they had to sand the tumbler then spray paint it. On your video is seems as if you just purchased them and dipped them?!

I explained what I did with each of these in the video. They were all prepped and then designed differently for the tutorial. The pink one was prepped, sprayed white, glittered, epoxied, dipped... The Light blue was prepped, painted white, dipped... The darker one was prepped, painted black, dipped... Here is how I prep: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LAjpoMDMIUA.html

Each state is different, so research the laws in your state for selling. I price based on materials and the time it takes plus tax and shipping. Before you start selling, make some for yourself/family/friends and give them away. Make sure they can hold up to regular use and that your techniques are mastered. There is a lot of trial and error in this craft. Have fun and good luck.

The only difference that I know if is that Marabu has a glitter ink, but otherwise they are the same. You will find different colors with each brand. I use several brands. how would you prevent yellowing using polycrylic
@VioletDoodlesBoutique
@VioletDoodlesBoutique 4 года назад
Polycrylic doesn't yellow like polyurethane. Epoxy does yellow some. Regardless you will have some yellowing with this craft over time. I haven't noticed anything drastic. You can also use Mod Podge and Marabu just released their own sealer.

Hi! i was wondering if you could do a video on how you marbled your extra large coffee cup that's in the background of your easy marble on stainless tumblers video (the introduction). and also what is the purpose of sanding the tumblers and is it necessary? SN...i love your videos!!! Thanks! Que from Mississippi
@VioletDoodlesBoutique
@VioletDoodlesBoutique 4 года назад
The purple and white mug? That mug was done using the same steps as the pink glitter tumbler from this video. It was a stainless mug, base painted white, glittered with white, epoxied, dipped in a few different purples and clear... the rest is the same as the others in the video. Prepping your cup is very important. Sanding the cup gives your decoration something to grab on to and helps it last longer. Thanks so much for watching!

Great video! So why do you only have a minute to get cup dipped? Sorry if I missed that in the video have you done this with spray paints? Are there any differences or benefits to using this product instead. I guess for one you can do it indoors. Thanks
@VioletDoodlesBoutique
@VioletDoodlesBoutique 5 лет назад
Hi there! You only have about a minute before the paints start to dry and set up. You'll know if its been too long because you wont be able to swirl it. It will all still and gum up. As long as you prepare your paints and tools before pouring, you shouldn't have a problem. I have dipped with spray paints as well. They give you a different look. I like the Easy Marble better than spray paint because I feel like I have a lot more control and YES I can do it inside.

It could be that the water was too warm, the paints maybe not shaken well, waiting too long to swirl... Lots of factors. I occasionally, have mine clump up. When that happens, I shake them more and add colder water to my bucket. I am not sure if the soft water matters.

May I ask is it mandatory to tape the rims? Has anyone done it with rims dipped as well?

You can do it either way. You will just need to be sure to seal it well.
