Although this shower floor I used the Schluter Kerdi system with the proprietary drain grate assembly, I take the same approach to install any shower floor. The main difference is the drain where in other systems the drain grate would already be in place and it would be a simple matter of just cutting around it. In most cases I will simply dry lay the whole shower floor, cutting all the pieces in, when that is done I will pick up one or two rows and start to install with thinset. I will always leave some of the loose floor in place to leave a reference to be able to install the mosaic tile exactly where it needs to go. All tile installed by Sal DiBlasi, Elite-tile Company, in the Boston North Shore area. I usually tend to do the floors first for the shower specially if im doing mosaico . Because i can give it a better finish with the pitch o. The wall tile

The planning and layout phase as shown here is what is missing in many other RU-vid tile videos. Rarely have I seen an effort to center the mosaic on the drain like Sal does. Drives me crazy when supposed pros let their tiles fall randomly around the drain.

This reply is too late for you, but it looks like a Ditra trowel - 11/64 x 11/64 square notch. Hope your shower came out good!

For 3 inch hex, that isn't perfectly flat on back side, would you use 1/4 x1/4 square notch trowel? On ditra heat

Hi Sal great videos, very informative on installing a mosaic octagon tiles on a schluter system pan. I"m getting ready to install 2" x 1/4"Thick mosaics on by schluter system pan. I plan to use a 1/4 x 1/4" trowel. Do you suggest to use a different size trowel, as I want to ensure that I don't have excess mortar come through the grout lines. Do you have any videos on how you do the sand and cement floor. ? Also if you were to install a wet room without a curb would you used tray rather than mud so the floor is flat throughout

Hi Sal, Awesome videos. I have small 1 1/4" square ceramic tiles for my shower wall. They are not affixed to a mesh. Should I lay them individually on the wall or should I install them on a fiberglass mesh first? Any other thoughts on how to do this? Thanks!

Awesome work! Noob question...for jobs that are larger in square footage which would require more than one bag of mortar mix will you mix an entire bag at once or in batches due to limited open time? I installed a tub/shower with mapei ultraflex LFT and had to throw out about 20#'s of mixed mortar due to it setting up so fast. Thank you for sharing!

As long as you mix the mortar with the correct ratio of water, then it will be fine. If I am doing large areas where I go through mortar quickly, I mix a whole bag at a time, if I am doing more detailed work where the mortar will sit for longer periods of time, I will mix half a bag at a time with half the water.

In this video you mentioned to center the drain where as in your other video you used some play you had to offset the drain in order to get even pieces around it. It’s there a preferred way you do it or just depends how the process goes?

How do you know what to charge client. if you’re going over work that was damage from the previous contractor that you were fixing for them? It’s tough to charge A certain amount. When they already lost so much money?

Never go over prep work you did not do, and charge what it is worth, you feel bad for the customer, but you fix it by giving them the best possible job at a fair price.

In this case it's better to do floor first because tiles are very small, and cutting them precisely against wall tiles would be a lot of unnecessary work.

I do my floors last so I don't have to worry about getting them dirty or damaging them. I start my walls on a ledger one or two courses up from floor and fill in after floor is done. Either way works
