Thank you Claudia, I'm so grateful for your simple yet beautiful pattern and tutorial. I just happened to land in my feed. I'm a batik lover as well, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of your tutorials! ❤
Just beautiful, love the colours, and like that you used various whites on the backgrounds too. Can you tell me which colour of thread you used for the back of the quilt. I know the front you used a purplish colour but I couldn’t see the thread on the grey fabric. TY
What I like best about Island Batiks (aside from they are beautiful) is they do not have pinked edges. So much nicer to work with for accuracy. I never buy any precuts that have pinked edges. Your quilt turned out so nice and you are so pleasant to listen to and learn from. Thanks!
Claudia, this is beautiful, thank you for sharing. I love batiks and I love how you show us different patterns with same blocks, no one does it as well as you. You must have been a math wizard in school. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
That's great! What color(s) are you going with? I appreciate you watching and if you post on Instagram make sure to tag me(#createwithclaudia) so I can see it.
Loved your pattern and I will be making it. I love Island Batik fabric because of their bold beautiful color. I’m using Midnight Rainforest. Thanks for the inspiration!!
I am brand new to quilting and I absolutely love this quilt. Your video laid it out nicely and your instructions are easy to follow. I do have one question, how did you stick the pieces to the hanging panel when you were arranging it?
Hello and welcome! I’m glad you like this quilt. I’ve been lucky enough to visit Scotland and it is one of the most beautiful countries I’ve visited. Isle of Skye, the Highlands etc..we dream of getting back one day! Thanks for saying hi!
Thank you Claudia! I have a 10 inch square pack of Tula Pink’s Homies in my stash and the layout with the star in the center would look so fun in that fabric. I think it would be a good quick quilt for my son. Thank you for sharing this pattern.
Oh that sounds like it’s going to be beautiful! If you post on Instagram please tag me #createwithclaudia so I can see the quilt you make. Thanks for stopping by!
I would like to make this as a lap quilt so I don't know how much background fabric I would need. I want to try to make this star like you did. I have a teal based layer cake so I want to use grey background. Your quilt is gorgeous.
Thanks for watching. There are a couple of ways to make it longer. You could add a border to the top and the bottom of the quilt. Or, since you have some 10" squares left, you could make more half square triangles. The only issue with that is that the design will change a bit. The easiest way would be to add a border to the top and/or bottom. Happy Quilting!
Here’s a link to my blog post with measurements and step by step instructions. I’m finishing up a printable but the holiday backed me up a little bit. Thanks for watching!
What a beautiful quilt! I love Island Batiks - I have quite the stash waiting for me to make something - this may just be what I’ve been waiting for - and I love how you showed so many options! Thank you so much! 😊
@@CreatewithClaudia I was thinking either the off white or a black for the background - I have a few packs tucked away, so I should be able to make a queen size 😀
Claudia, I made a small version of this as my first completed quilt, last weekend. I am not a sewer, so learning to sew straight seams is a trial. I attempted to quilt it (badly) on my 1953 Singer 99K machine. I have almost finished the top for my next quilt, have to add borders. I have unpicked it many times as it has sashing in 2 colours in one direction and 1 colour width ways. My quarter inch seams are not quarter inch! That is a big lesson I have learnt. I truly appreciate your insistence on being aware of your seams!
Sounds like you have nice older machine. I bet your will turn out just fine and this is a good pattern to start with. And awesome to almost finish another one. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
Thank you - I appreciate that. A while ago I did a video with 27 different layouts. These were smaller half square triangles, but you might enjoy it. It's so hard picking a favorite layout. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0OLrB7V_edc.html Have a great day!
Thank you! Being a new HST quilter, I could have used some further instructions on the start in the center. I think I can probably take a picture of your finished quilt and then print it out so I can see how the rows go for that center. I enjoy your videos…💜
If you head over to my website I have a downloadable pattern for this quilt. Here's a link to the the blog post and pattern. www.createwithclaudia.com/2022/11/super-easy-quilt-made-with-one-10-precut-pack-and-a-few-yards-of-fabric/ That will help. I also have step by step photos to help out too. It is not too hard to assemble. Thanks for watching and have fun making it. What colors are you thinking about?
Thank you for a well thought out tutorial. The organization habits you talk about will surely help me out. I am looking to create the larger star burst as well for my first quilt. Happy sewing!🧵🪡💖
I absolutely love your quilt. I have been looking for a pattern that uses a Layer Cake with little waste and I think this might be it. The only issue with your Star pattern is that I need a king size and I am unsure how to make your pattern larger. Any suggestions? I do love it!
Thank you so much! You could make it larger a couple of ways…add more half square triangles around the outside but you’d need more than one layer cake for that. You could also add a large border around the outside. That would be a nice frame for the design and a place to show off some quilting. Glad you like the quilt!
I really appreciate it and I’m glad you like the quilt on the wall. The Churn Dash is a pattern I sell over on Etsy (digital or paper). Here’s my shop: www.etsy.com/shop/CreatewithClaudia. Thanks for watching!
I’m glad you like it. You could use more 9 1/2” half square triangle but depending on how large you wanted to make it you might need another precut. The design would change a bit if you made it larger using half square triangles. An easier way to make it larger would be to add a border. Thanks for watching!
Great pattern. Beautiful fabric. Thanks. Instead of buying yardage that had to be cut into 10” squares for the background I bought a 10” precut. So much easier.
i only use island batik...i just LOVE it...do you ever use a normal cotton quilting fabric with you batiks?...i heard it is ok but i am afraid to mix my batiks with anything else...your quilt is beautiful
Thanks! I appreciate you watching! The quilt behind me is my “Churning Up a Storm” pattern that I sell over on Etsy here: www.etsy.com/listing/1152171822/
For the HSTs, I would sew the diagonals with less than 1/4" seam and trim to 9.5" square. My machine allows me to move the needle that I can use the edge of the presser foot as a guide.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful quilt pattern and tutorial. I'm a beginner quilter and can't wait to try this pattern! Going to look for the same layer cake you used. Love the colors!
Thank you!!! You have solved my problem. I've had these 3 pieces of co-ordinating fabrics so long that I can't remember what I was going to do with them (lol). I like to work with larger blocks so this is right up my alley. Loved how you put them together at the end to find the best layout..........Thanks again Claudia. Subscribed.
I have lots of fabric so colours wouldn't know right now but I'm partial to red white and blue for 4th July . The star reminds me of our night in Boston at the fireworks show on 4th July 2019, my only ever visit to the USA 🇺🇸. Now my American sweetheart is with me in Australia 🇦🇺.
Thank you so much for this video! Your work is beautiful and absolutely love this pattern and color pallete. Very very nice. Subscribed! Cheers from BC Canada 🇨🇦
Beautiful quilt! I'm a beginner quilter and this looks like a great pattern for me to try. Any suggestions when there's a directional print? I bought a layer cake with large animals, ie elk, to make a quilt for my son. Thank you!
This one is a bit tricky with directional prints unless you don't mind them going in different directions. Depending on the print you could change your diagonal line one way or the other, but it's still going to be tricky with this pattern and that would take a while to decide. Best of luck.
I just found your channel. Really like the quilt in the background at the very beginning. Not the turn - but the one before that. I looked on your Etsy shop but didn’t see a pattern. Would you please share the name of it and where we can find it.? Thanks in advance.
This video wandered across my feed. Been a fan for a while, so I stop and look. Question is do you have a pattern or instructions for that glorious quilt behind you?
Thank you. I sent this out to a longarm quilter which is why I didn’t show that part. However I’ll note that I should add a little binding demo. I appreciate you watching!
Thank you so much! Are you talking about the purple quilt or the blue and white one? I don’t have one for the purple quilt, but I sell the pattern for the blue and white one in my Etsy shop.
It's very pretty and not a ton of work. I'd like to see a layout that has more stars in it too. It'd be nice for a man or boys quilt. I love the batiks.
I'm so glad you watched and I hope you give the quilt a try. It is easier than you think. I'll be coming out with a different pattern that does not use triangles soon. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
I have a rag quilt pattern book and made this quilt for my DILfor her 50th birthday this pass December. Made it out of flannels and she loves the pattern and it's keeping her nice and warm on those Illinois winter nights in front of the fireplace.
I’m going to make this! I have a Batik Layer Cake with very similar colors. I just need to buy a light background fabric. Is it ok to mix Batiks and cotton quilt fabric? Just wondering. Thank you bunches for the pattern and especially for the layout! That will save me a lot of time👍.
Thank you. That was a quilt I made with gradient batiks. It doesn’t have a name or a pattern. I have had a number of people ask me about so maybe I should write one.
