That scene immortalizes Peter Fonda for an entire generation of those of us who came of age in the sixties and felt the pull from society in every direction.

Had a moment kinda like that back in '96. Standing in the front doorway of my apartment in Fresno with a pack on my back and the house keys in my hand. Looked at 'em for a long moment, then threw 'em on the floor in the hallway, turned and walked away without a backward glance. Left the door wide open. Best decision I ever made.

Yeah, I've read that the part where Phil was ducking every time a plane flew over wasn't in the script, that was just Phil. They hired him for that part because he was a friend of theirs and would work for cheap. Plus he already had the car, the bodyguard and the clothes, so they didn't have to provide any of that.

In the actual opening scene, Wyatt and Billy ride their dirt bikes to a dump yard somewhere in Mexico and purchase the white powder drug from their connection in Mexico, who is a cool looking guy wearing sunglasses and a nice suit. This is not the Opening Scene, but is however, one of many great scenes from a 60's classic. I was 13 in 69 and couldn't wait to ride a motorcycle across America. RIP Captain America and Billy.

There is a context here that many fail to appreciate. To fully grasp the extent to which Peter Fonda’s character had transcended the practical norms of our society is to juxtapose his movie, “Easy Rider” with that of his father’s (Henry Fonda) movie, “The Grapes of Wrath”. These movies were produced only a mere three decades apart! Yet the visceral discontinuity is difficult to fathom. But I think they act as bookends to an American era that was radically changed by the effects of a world war and then global economic dominance

I'd have to make a better guess, but I just know that it's a ridiculous idea for that much cash. +Myanameis Beestingz You're thinking in 21st century terms. In 1968, Wyatt and Billy probably got about $10,000 for the deal, which was a life changing score in those days. You can easily roll up 10k in that amount of tubing (considering it's all in large bills, there's only 100 of them in total).
