This movie was great. A lot of people don't know Jack N. and the others actually really did a lot of the drugs the characters were supposed to be on to "Get in the role". Like the campfire scene shown around 1:45, they were smoking a REAL JOINT, Jack N. didn't know until it was "to late" they said in the documentary. Absolutely classic film, and if you like it make sure you watch the extras/documentary about the making of. Lots of cool facts (like the drugs one) about the film in it.

Excellent film. Among other things, one aspect I really enjoyed when I first saw 'Easy Rider' in the mid 1990s was the shots of the old 1950s and '60s era gas stations, diners and motels. They're pieces of Americana that one doesn't see much of anymore. Watching the movie now in 2020 makes for a mesmerizing nostalgia trip.

In early 1969, a couple of hippie chicks told me about this movie and about the choppers. This flick hooked me because I was into choppers long before ER hit the big screen. With some friends, I rode up to Cleveland (OH) in a wonky 1953 Chevy. My pals and their chicks were smoking grass. I declined taking a hit off the joints that were being passed around in the car, but man, did I get a contact high. Finally, I rolled down the window. Ha! People in the theater were tightening their wigs. I was already buzzed. The bikes, the music and the scenery didn't disappoint. Considering the film's budget, the work by cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs was amazing and risky (I refer to the aerial footage at the movie's end). A tagline from one of many ER movie posters: "This year it's 'Easy Rider."" I969 -- indeed it was.

Myself and my cousin Jim saw easy Rider at the old Strand Theater in Wadsworth Ohio in 1969 when we were 16 years old. I got my first Harley a 1941 45ci Sport Solo the following summer and I have had one ever since. While I wanted a Harley before i saw Easy Rider the movie made it my mission. I don't even know how many times I watched it but I still love the movie and now that I am an old man it brings back my younger days every time I watch it. My first long ride on a Harley was when I rode a friends bike who had been wounded in 72 from Ft. Lewis Washington to San Diego CA on a 1956 Panhead but it was less fun than I thought it would be it rain most the way. If you never saw easy rider give it a watch.

It's indeed very good to see this movie as a snapshot of these times. The only thing which is hard is to know that the movie ending correspond to the real ending of this era. Now there are laws for everything and you aren't allowed to do anything without proper papers ... "They" have won.
@fluffy1931
@fluffy1931 2 года назад
Not really. The real stars of the movie are the motorcycles. Harley Davidson at that period of time was heading downward spiral into the toilet. By 1971' to avoid bankruptcy Harley Davidson was purchased by AMF corporation which was known for sports goods like bowling balls. AMF ownership lasted 71' - 81' and it's products were shit tiered. Some endings are unreal.

I'd bash the movie's waywardness as boring but that would be missing a critical point right? I'll say the campfire conversation about aliens and the late acid trip were fascinating - I'll be bold to say the ending sucked - people hate 'free people' so it 'makes sense' but it was too quick.

This movie sucks. It was only a box office success because it was made for about $400,000 so it was guaranteed to make money given the ethical and artistic drift of the late 1960s. It’s a terrible movie that just looked avant-garde due to ineptitude. As far as having cultural impact, other than deluding young people that you could change the world by taking drugs, listening to rock music, and engaging in promiscuous sex, there was none. Look at it this way…if you and your friends watched this movie at age 18-the Vietnam War was going on-and “dug” the message, you all would have been 52 years old and at the hight of your earning and political power by 2003. Yet you folks still let George W. Bush be elected president and we still went to war in Iraq. Your generation changed nothing. Because change takes real effort. And you folks from the 1960s either never learned that or sold out sometime in the 1970s or 1980s. This movie starts with those two main characters engaging in a drug deal and ends with them being murdered. I always considered that as Karma. That’s the only good part of the movie. I believe the screenplay for this movie was, unfortunately, was written at the Hotel Chelsea, where I eventually lived. I’ll rank that below Sid stabbing Nancy.

This movie wasn't so loose, it was all an illusion. And the brutal reality was omitted from the movie. At the hick town at the restaurant they picked up those girls. And as I remember the girls got raped and killed. That's why Fonda said we blew it . Went to sleep Jack got killed that's why the beat them up. The two now alive moving on were shot by the pursuers. But the cut movie makes it look like they were innocent. But they weren't. It's always been a ying yang movie to me. Really I thought it was deep man.....

Just the opposite, in Crosby's case! It's not 100% confirmed or anything, but Fonda and Hopper spent some time hanging out with The Byrds before making the movie, and it's rumored that their characters are somewhat based on McGuinn and Crosby.

@mattg432
@mattg432 2 месяца назад
Well, look up the end of the movie, same fate. They had about 80 hours of footage, mostly riding, but also acting. Hooper came up with a 240 minute version, preferred 220, refused to go below 180, or 3 hours as mentioned around 3:19. Then others took over, Hopper was sent on holiday, film cut to 94 minutes, and published. Became a success, so nobody argued at the time. Later, when director cuts became a thing, with video and laser discs and the like, they tried to find the archives. Sadly, the take outs were lost in a storage fire. All that remains are a few still shots, like a police chase with two apparently 1965 Plymouth Fury pursuit cars.
