Great addition to your router setup. Thumbs up, and thanks for posting. I hear you regarding the cost of materials to make things. One of the first lessons I learned was that it's usually cheaper to buy manufactured furniture and whatnot - unless you use scraps and leftovers from other projects. Of course, nothing beats the satisfaction of making stuff, especially for custom purposes.
A nice upgrade, love the removable fence inserts it’s a great idea, I find it a bit sad that the cost of materials is quite often more expensive than going out and buying the items off the shelf as I am sure it stops lots of people from actually getting the satisfaction of building things for themselves, no wonder kids today look at you funny when you suggest doing woodworking or metalworking I am sure very few see these projects/activities getting done at home anymore, hopefully we will get to see your new router set up in action soon 👌👌👌👍👍👍🇦🇺
Nice job Katie. I'll be redoing my router table soon (hopefully). Pretty much doing the exact same thing as you did. You gave me some additional ideas to think about. Like the replaceable fence inserts. I know what you mean about just going out and buying as oppose to making. Sometime its cheaper, but I really enjoy making shop tools and jigs. But then again I have so little time. Its a toss up for me. Just one suggestions. You might want to think about sealing the back and edges of the fence real good. I've seen 3/4" plywood with laminate on one side cup because of moisture entering and leaving on only one side of the sheet being that the contact cement and laminate has sealed off the front. Keep up the good work.
This is a tough one, just because of the prices. It’s nice to customize stuff like this to suit my needs. However, if I had to buy the ply, Star knobs, t-track, t-bolts, Dust port, hardware, glue, laminate, and contact cement I probably would have just bought one. I feel like the cost effectiveness of building your own jigs and shop storage has really started to flatten out because of the cost increases on so many products. Which is a shame.
