Great video! 1) you’re so much faster than me at terminating! 2) do you need me to buy you a spade bit or hole saw lol 3) you are pretty confident in your termination to not test before mounting the camera and terminating the keystone. 😅 4) you would think that once you activate a camera that is synology branded, it would be able to track its IP change even if it is cross VLAN. For example, in activating the camera, the camera could be taught the IP of the surveillance station and alert the NAS of an IP change. Seems like a good feature request to synology rather than having to redo the activation. 5) pretty handy your attic is right above where the camera is. 6) I saw in another comment you are going to replace your Amcrest cams with synology cams. Are they that much better? 7) how much is the camera in this video?

Thanks for watching. 1) The termination sections were sped up but you already know this. :) 2) Thanks. I have all the tools I need. Took a minimal amount with me to minimize going up & down the ladder. I always drill a small pilot hole first just in case I drill into the wrong place, it is easily fixed. 3) Yes, I am pretty confident with my terminations. I've done enough of them over the years. However, please note, I always test the cables when working for a paying customer. You are a very perceptive viewer. :) 4) I agree 100%. I was surprised to see that the IP address did not auto-update. Great suggestion to make a feature request to Synology. 5) Not exactly above the camera but in close proximity. I did use 3 fish sticks in order not to have to walk the rafters. Scoping out the environment beforehand and having landmarks such as air conditioning vents and can lights help tremendously. 6) From what I 'm seeing so far, the night vision is much better. 7) The Synology cameras are $220. Yes, a bit more expensive than the Amcrest model I have installed. However, this price also includes the camera license. So, in actuality, one can move a Synology camera from NAS to NAS and the license moves with it. I hope this answers your inquiries. Have a great day!

I am surprise Synology does not match other manufacturers. QNAP comes with 8 free camera licenses. I need to install additional cameras around the house. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I forgot to ask, why were there so many horn beeps. First you waved then they continued. I am guessing you first thought it was a neighbor, then realized it was your fob

I waived at my wife pulling out of the driveway behind me. The horn beeps were simply my keys in my front pocket. I guess I leaned into the ladder to trigger the fob.

Tony, as usual your content and videos are just great. Would it have been possible to configure the camera on your VLAN first before moving over to the monitor center? Thanks and keep up the great work.

Thanks Rick. Great question! Yes, could’ve have definitely set up the camera on the vlan first. But, would’ve still had to set it up manually. The reason why I did it the way I did was because I knew Surveillance Station would automatically detect it on the same subnet. I thought first sure the IP would’ve auto-updated after power cycling the switch port.
