CayaMaya share a very helpful idea on police stations in her current series. She explained that the number of police cars is responseable for the number of cases a police station gets in. So to prevent a station gets overwhelmed with cases, adjusting the number of cars is good instument to stay in that 10-20 cases at a time frame.
@bballjo
@bballjo Год назад
Yep...not sure why I didn't say that, but that's exactly what I did... however, it still requires enough workers and uni workers, which is really the main issue here.
@MachaQueso
@MachaQueso Год назад
You can build 11 small police stations with the same steel needed for a single large one. Also large police station has 20 workers, 40 officers and 8 cars compared to 8 workers, 10 officers, 4 cars on the small one. On a crime wave, it seems building 8 small police stations with one car each is cheaper and way more effective than a single large one since the higher ratio of officers to crime seems to result in better chance to solve crimes. I tried this in my map: emergent crime wave reaching 10% in some buildings, build like 4 large police stations full of cars and it failed (crime kept increasing because of unresolved case load). Then I reloaded the save and built 8 small police stations with 1 car each. Got it under control.
@bballjo
@bballjo Год назад
I mean, that's basic math...80 officers for 8 cars is at least 2x as efficient as 40 officers for 8 cars. I do believe going this route instead of what I did with the big stations is a better approach, because of the cost savings, which may have resulted in enough leftover cash for more citizens... I do have a hypothesis, that all personal inside a building works on the cases, in which case a large station with 1-4 cars would still be more efficient than 4 small police stations with 1 car, but I haven't tested that yet. Now, don't forget, the most important thing is that you actually resolve crimes, and attend to all crimes, as long as you have enough cars to arrive at all crime scenes, you are good there, the other side of the investigation is the next step, and that requires ample workers that are ready to work. The number of cars still only changes the case load per building. In the grand scheme of things, once you get into this situation, its very difficult to get out of it, not impossible, but it requires a lot of resources to make it happen, and there is a limit. The real solution is to not get into this situation in the first place. In this case sentences were set too long, and not enough wardens existed, fixing those 2 small things would have avoided all of this.

I've recently got out of a crime death spiral myself in my 1800 start (realistic mode). I have 'splitted' my police stations across city and bought only 1 police car (horse in my case) to the police station (10 policemen). It managed to keep the amount of cases reasonable per station and the amount of stations mitigated the coverage. Also to prevent the 'light crimes' criminals clogging my prison, I've set the sentence time to 0. The criminal still gets into prison, but serves only 1 shift (8 hours work, 16hours free time) and then gets out again. He still gets his criminality lowered by a percentage (if the Prison is properly staffed), but did keep my warden to crminals ratio at bay and rised the throughput quite significantly.
@bballjo
@bballjo Год назад
Yep, that all depends on having enough workers present in stations and court and prison, plus actually having a general positive effect in the prison.

Thank you bballjo for this content. After 1k hours in this game I have still something to learn. My republic crash twice on crime. Twice, because of not well operated prisons. For me, in this game are 5 things more important than others. Electricity, Heating, Food, Prisons and Water/Sewage. 4 of them needs people to work. My rules are: Always build powerplant, heating, water/sewage and prison beetween city and industry. It have to be allways full of people and industry should be a "buffer filled by people". Always bring people there by two kind of transportation, one powered by electricity, one powered by gas. If something happen, you ll have always filled crucial infrastructure with people or at least by someone. If everything works well, you can choose most loyal workers and incrase efectivity. These rules pushed my republic on the hardest setings to 120k of people.

@bballjo
@bballjo Год назад
Haha! I think that could work, but I don't think we had the numbers overall...I mean micromanaging all workplaces to the absolute mins could have helped with the workforce for sure, and helicopters would be pretty easy to setup... maybe, just maybe that would have saved just enough money on workers to make it work;)

Hi bballjo, Crime and loyalty affects happiness in the game., that's fact. As long as we play with Crime and loyalty, you will have an approximate 70%, very difficult to reach 90%. whatever you do, whatever you build, you will never reach 90% playing with Crime and loyalty. It's hard to see the unhappiness of the citizens. I play without those two Game Features. happiness is going very well.
@bballjo
@bballjo Год назад
I think you are generalizing a little much. You can totally reach upper 80s for happiness without much fuss, you just have to do the standard: everything in walking range, and cities less than 7k, so you don't overload buildings, then just keep on top of crime and you have no issues. I was even able to get into the 80s with my large, public transport dependent 20k citizens city in season 6...
@Vlad-1986
@Vlad-1986 Год назад
I don't know. Naturally I always reach close to 90% no probs with Crime and loyalty. Granted, I am no God at this game, and I struggle to make a profit (I usually run on infinite money), but I don't think that what I do is so expensive or would make it impossible to have a viable republic. I just expand slowly and monitor everything.

There would be only one thing going for longer prison sentences. If you were actually using prisoners as a labor force. You do not need to give them electronics, so they are possibly a bit cheaper. So if you needed to boost your stone mining or fill up your coal mines...

Wow I had no idea crime could spiral that bad! In my game I only have a couple small modded police stations and one vanilla and have about 40,000 people and it's somehow more than enough. I I have my sentences very short, about 0.5 year, 1.5 year, and 3 year and I rarely see more than 3-4 people in my single prison. How do I get by so easy? Are there other factors at play that influence the criminality stat for citizens? Perhaps because my people are always 100% happy and generally have 50+ % loyalty?

Nice video, but none of these solutions can be used in realistic mode. The only way I can see to do it in realistic mode it's to let everyone escape or die, micromanage all buildings by disabling basically everything and slowly start to repopulate your republic. The only condition is to have enough money for jump start.
@bballjo
@bballjo Год назад
The solution in realistic mode is to not mismanage your settings... realistic mode is the least forgiving mode for a reason, and is not really meant for players that aren't familiar with everything.

Police cars in a station bring in all the cases. Can it help to reduce the amount of cars, so cases come in more slowly and the officers have more chance to handle them? Of course not getting the cases to the station is also no perfect solution, but maybe it can help a bit drain some pressure from the police so they can catch up?
@bballjo
@bballjo Год назад
Funny you mention that, because I apparently forgot to say that...I tried it, but the problem was that we still only had sporadic workers at the station, and cases still didn't get solved. For reference I used 2 cars per station.
@TheF0rseti
@TheF0rseti Год назад
@@bballjo Ok, in this case the workers were the problem. But is it in general a good option? I mean, is there a difference between cases not solved and cases not "picked up"? In the end only bringing people to jail will cure them, so at least get some solved. Or do I miss something?
@bballjo
@bballjo Год назад
Yes, the only way cases get to a station is with cars. I would not discount the part with crimes never making it to the police station, reduces happiness and loyalty and may increase crime. The real solution is to not get into this situation in the first place and paying attention to you crime and justice setup.

From what I know, you need to have enough orphanages to control crime level as orphans growing up will have a much less criminal level.
@bballjo
@bballjo Год назад
It's the other way around... If you don't have an orphanage, orphans just disappear and don't cause any issues. If you do have an orphanage, it has to be working appropriately, like a prison, otherwise there will be a similar crime effect as shown in the video. There was an update a long time ago that's supposed to stop orphanages from overflowing, but I rarely play with them, so it may or may not be working well.
