I made the black bean soup and it was very delicious! However, I HIGHLY recommend soaking your beans ahead of time to prevent any uncomfortable gas or tummy aches. My whole family ate it, and while we loved the taste, we all experienced unpleasant after effects if you know what I mean. And we aren't super sensitive to legumes. We usually soak and rinse them and feel fine.
Yep, soaking is key! They will be cooked without soaking, yes, but soaking removes most of the phytic acid. Phytic acid inhibs the absorption of nutrience and non-soaked beans will 'cause bloating and such things. So I 100% agree, always soak

It would be awesome if you can do more recipes that just involves dumping ingredients in the pot or whatever you’re doing. Loved this video. I am vegan and received an Instant Pot as a gift and have not used it much. I will definitely make the black bean soup. I am trying to watch my sodium intake due to high blood pressure....nothing better than homemade soup. Love your concise, clear video!!
I’ve purchased a Phillips Delux HD2145/72. I wanted an electronic automatic pressure release valve. Don’t want to go near a manual valve. About 90% of the recipes online are for “instant pots” but you can convert the HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW pressure setting of the instant pot into psi or kilopascals which the Phillips uses.
Recently got an Instant Pot, but have yet to use it. Those refried beans will be the first dish I try. I like your techniques for adding layers of flavor to your dishes. Thank you so much.
I love Instant Pot recipes! It’s my favorite thing in the kitchen but I find it difficult to find good vegan recipes online. I do have one book but I love the video format, it makes me more open to exploring something new rather than sticking with the same thing.

Thank you for using your platform to show that that its possible to thicken up soup with beans instead of adding wheat flour! It hurts me (person with celiac's) when others insist on adding flour to an otherwise GF soup.

I love these recipes and will be using the refried beans and cilantro lime rice recipe for my next family get together! THOUGH, I want to let all of you other commenters know that, despite Caitlin not soaking her beans, it is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to soak your beans. This helps reduce the anti-nutrients in the beans that cause digestive distress. If you can just plan ahead and stick your dry beans in a pot of water for 8-24 hours, you will dramatically be helping your digestive system!
Yes! I love these! However it’s almost July in Georgia and I can’t do soup. I tried a grilled “cheese” and soup the other day and it was too hot! Doesn’t work for certain seasons. So happy for your move and love your ideas! Keep them coming,
