EASY WAY - BMW Rear knock ? Broken Spring! How to Replace BMW X3 F25

My friend's BMW X3 F25 was making a big noise sometimes when turning or taking bumps. Looking at the rear, i found out one of the lower coils on the rear spring is broken. Starting with F25, the rear suspensions are one complete assembly (instead of having the spring seperated from the strut). On german cars, it seems very common to see broken coil springs. Seems like they aren't designed to resist to salt used in cold weathers country such as canada.

I have a 2012 x3 35i m series . Spring broke so is it the same way to replace ??

good job changing the spring but why not change the old strut also? would've made the truck drive a whole lot smoother. either way TWO THUMBS UP!!!!

because the strut was still good and the client didnt want to change the strut too

I followed this and spent hours trying to get the lower bolt back in because it would not align. I marked the camber bolt and removed it. put the lower bolt back in and the camber bolt easily aligned.

My rear control arm outer bolt is not lining up nearly as easily as yours did.

Is there any reason you can't replace the spring while the strut is still in the vehicle? Mine broke in the exact same place. I figure I'll just keep the top of the strut bolted to the vehicle, remove the center shock nut and then lower the bottom of the strut with a jack. Reverse operation to install the spring.

i dont think you'll have enough space to slide out the strut and the spring.

Hey buddy, its not specifically for X3 but for E90, should be very similar (same suspension design anyways) www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1590447
