Easy way to Install a Freestanding Tub- Part 2. This video shows the installation and setting of a freestanding tub and tub filler. Universal rough-in components make it much easier to install a freestanding tub. Using Delta Faucets tub filler rough-in "DR4700" and Jacuzzi "JMZ-20000", the trim can easily be installed without disturbing any of the other finishes or connections from below the floor. Watch this video to see how simple this process can be.
To see part one of this video series, click on this link. • Easy Freestanding Tub ... . It will show how I installed the rough-in components.

Thank you for this video. We had a house built 2 years ago and have had moisture and bugs coming out from under our free standing tub. After watching your video I understand why. The margin around the drain was exposed allowing moisture and critters to come up from under the slab. Also, the drain was installed with no gasket or plumbers putty which allowed water to leak under the slab, and lastly there was no indication that the drain tube was lubricated before installing. Thanks to your video I'll be reinstalling the tub the correct way!

Thank you guys for making these videos, especially for showing both that its okay to make mistakes, and why its important to see where those mistakes are before finishing a job! I'm in Colorado and learned several keys from you: 1.) Measure and measure again before cutting because the placement of the fill spout needs to be dead-on accurate and hang over the tub some, 2.) Buy a pipe cutter to fit inside the down drain, 3.) there are different types of cement for different types of pipes so I need to know what type of pipes I will be working with, 4.) Rough-in the drain first (using a rough-in tool like the Delta Faucets tub filler rough-in "DR4700" and Jacuzzi JMZ-20000, then install finished flooring, then install the tub with drain assembly, 5.) Use plumbers putty as it makes for a better seal than the manufacturer gasket, 6.) lube up down drain, washers, and be careful to not over-tighten hand-tight fittings, 7.) check to make sure there are no leaks before caulking in tub. These are more for me to reference to haha, thank you again!

Isaac, if you install one in a blue moon, it’s worth getting this rough in; however, if you install quite a few a month, those rough ins at 200$/pop adds up really fast. You can use a trap adapter at 5$ a piece instead of the rough in, lift up the tub and drop it on 2 batteries or whatever blocks you have, enough to slide your hand under the tub and tighten the trap adapter nut . Then at the same time, slide out the blocks with your helper and drop the tub in. Don’t forget that floors are never 100% level, those tub feet need to be adjusted at 1/8” or so from the floor and the tub should be dry fitted to make sure it doesn’t wobble. Put silicone over the feet and drop the tub in. Adjust , fill the tub with water half way and open the drain. That’s how you check for leaks… Code says the tub has to be completely sealed to the bottom. So use your choice of sealant and seal the entire perimeter or as much as you can.

4:40 In a pinch, 2 long screwdrivers will work also for holding the drain assembly from spinning (when the drain wrench doesn’t fit, lol). Have always used plumbers putty, which is what i was taught as an apprentice long ago, & I still prefer using even today......as it just works good💪🏼 A other tip for newbies, make sure your tub drain protective plastic is removed before installing drain (if the tub has a protective “plastic cap”.....cuz ya don’t wanna make that mistake 😂). Thx for the tips Isaac along w/ the vid. Enjoyed watching & learning about some new hardware “assembly”👍🏻 Cheers ✌🏼

I really like that tub filler both in style and the way it installs. Then I wandered over to Delta's website and saw how much it costs... ouch! $2170 MSRP plus the install kit for $248. Not cheap, but probably worth it. I see HD has it for less than $1600 and the rough in for less than $200.

You might like plumber putty better, but in situations where plastic (a main component of the plastic is solvent and/or oil of some sort) is involved,...the oil in the putty can and will leech out through the plastic (this is a known fact) over time. Over many years, there is not a track record one way over the other as to how the old standard plumbers putty will do with plastic,. But it is known that silicone hardens much like a catalyzed substance. So once it is hard, it's done and you don't have to worry what will happen over the next few decades. Thank you for the videos.

Great video highlighting the Jacuzzi JMZ-20000 tub drain rough in. I assume you had to remove the included drain assembly that came with the tub(I've found that most free standing tubs come with a preinstalled drain and flex drain tube of some sort). Great fix for easier install using the Jacuzzi rough in, allowing for easy connection of tub to drain. Good product but, after checking pricing, was surprised to see how expensive it is. Also, love Delta and their rough in valves but again, you need to have deep pockets to afford any of their tub fillers in any finish. Many of them are priced at well over $1000.00. Customer needs to do their pricing research on various brand's rough in valves and tub filler combos before installing a rough in valve. They are not interchangeable between brands, unfortunately and there is a wide variance of pricing among manufacturers. My suggestion would be to choose a tub filler first and then match up with that Mfgs appropriate rough in valve before installing same. This was one of the most thorough tub install videos I have ever seen. Much appreciated.

@jfgrivard2
@jfgrivard2 3 года назад
putting the gasket on the bottom part of the bath will not prevent water to seep through the threads of the assembly. So if the bath overflows it will fill the bottom of the bath pan (i.e. pan under the bath that takes the overflow water to the drain slits) and find its way through the threads of the pipe assembly and leak out around the pipe threads. I'm even thinking that when the main drain action goes the slits on the side of the drain assembly (which were there for the overflow in principle) might also drip water outside the main assembly to the bottom of the bath pan the same way, which will lead to the threads leaking again.

Gil Galaxy you add some silicone caulking to the bottom of the tub and the leveling feet to prevent it from moving. Place a bead of clear silicone caulk all around the base of the tub (you do not want this to be visible, so make sure you don’t put it too close to the edge of the tub). Don’t forget to caulk the leveling feet. Make sure that the tub is flush to the floor and level before you caulk it or the leveling feet.

Good info! So for this type of installation, in case you need to perform any maintainance, the drain simply slides off, correct? We are installing the tub filler behind the tub where the area will be a little tight for any future maintainance of the tub filler, so with this method, looks like we can simply remove the silicone from around the tub and slide the tub out to access the tub filler, correct?

@melissaalhezayen4108
@melissaalhezayen4108 4 года назад
Chris the feet should not raise the tub off of the floor. Level the feet so the tub sits flush to the floor. Then, tip the tub on it’s side caulk the perimeter of the tub and the leveling feet with clear silicone and set it in place. You’ll need help with this. You do not want to see the caulk so dont place the bead too close to the edge of the tub. Once this all dries the tub won’t move.
@kimikobaylor9213
@kimikobaylor9213 4 года назад
I had this same question and found no good solution that secured it in place while also allowing me to easily move or lift it in the future. What I ended up doing is taking a few pieces of scrap 2x4, very precisely measured where the inside lip of the bottom of the tub was, and construction glued the 2x4s down. This allowed me to simply slip the tub right down over the 2x4s. My tub is rectangular so the edges of the tub sit nice and tight against the 2x4. If I ever need to lift the tub I can still do so without fighting silicone.

Also, how FAR up does the Tub need to be when lowering the brass pipe into the floor flange.....or does that not matter as you did not say anything about that......I would think it would have to be a minimum of so much into the flange, thus lowering the tub as much as possible....but, then you dont want that brass pipe to go too far into the floor flange????????
