The principles are sound but the prices are off. The video is valuable. There are many seniors who are retired who are still working due to inflation. Moms and dads have both been working for years due to high housing costs. Thanks for the video.

I appreciate your comment @marilynmartino4245. I have given the prices I found locally to me, but do appreciate that these could differ. I really hope this is able to help those in similar situations to what you have stated, yes.

You made my day Dr A when you said you do not have to buy organic avocado !!! Recently I thought I should get organic avocado cuz most of my fruit and vegetables I buy are organic but the organic avacados I find are super tiny so I’m happy to hear I can buy non organic ones and not worry about pesticides 😁so thank you so much for mentioning this !!! 🥑🥑🥑LOVE your videos!!!!
@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 10 месяцев назад
Yes @lisabecker7962, Avocado and Bananas do not specifically need to be organic. That's a saving right there too! I definitely hear you about the size of the organic Avocados too.

I like to meal prep my breakfast and lunches for the work week. I buy organic cage fee eggs for appx $6 a doz, and frozen organic spinach for $3 that I steam, and daily i have 2 eggs and a little spinach for breakfast. So i get 5 breakfasts for about 9 bucks, or less than $2 each. Lunch is a huge salad (tub of greens for appx $4) with organic chicken for appx $6, and lots of random veggies thrown in, so maybe another $5, so 5 lunches for $15... I use EVOO or Lemon to dress. everything is organic but it is still way more cost effective than dining out or eating packaged food.

That sounds like an awesome approach @annefisher6323 - Great meal prepping skills! 😀

So, regarding frozen spinach… you just pop them in a steamer for 30 min or ? Thank you, I never thought of steaming frozen spinach …
@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 10 месяцев назад
Hey Turena, thanks for writing back! And yes, you can simply steam up the spinach and you're good to go for cooking! Or if using in breakfast shakes, throw them in frozen and you can skimp a little on the ice. Best of luck and thanks for watching! -The FMP Team

These are all great ideas- thank you (although you obviously don’t live in Calif based on your price quotes 😅). I remember something my ex-husband said as we were divorcing and he knew that I wouldn’t have much money. He said that I wouldn’t still be eating organic after the divorce. I told him that I would but I would have to give up packaged snacks. I’m still eating organic 11 years later.

Ezekiel bread is $7.53 a loaf. Free range eggs are $5.18 per dozen. Grass-fed ground beef, 80/20, is $5.76 per pound. Plus, you still have to be able to get to a store that sells these foods. Nothing has really changed in thousands of years. People of means eat well and live long. Those of more modest means do not. The doc's idea of affordable is a lot different from mine. Great content if you can follow it though.

Personally organic isn't what these people think it is. 9/10 it's similar to non organic but they just pay extra for the sticker.

Yep, prices are way off for Australians, particularly those of us living outside of the cities. $10/doz free range eggs. $3.50 per Avocado. $15 per Ezekiel loaf. $10/kg budget chicken breast. $20/kg walnuts.

These are not affordable, maybe if you are single and don’t have kids but for a family of four this would come out to approximately $15 per person per day to eat healthy which is $1800 a month, that is a very high grocery budget!
@DVB1848
@DVB1848 10 месяцев назад
Dr A, buying organic produce and saving money, these two are opposite statements. Organic produce is always better but very expensive. Not everyone can afford to buy these products. You simply can’t save money by buying organic products. But… buy fresh products and wash them off carefully before using. That’s what’s more important. Prices are rising everywhere in the world, the suggestion should be to buy fresh produce and cook from scratch, do not buy prepackaged food. That would save money. I would like to suggest if you could consider starting a Fit Grandparents Project.
@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 10 месяцев назад
Thank you for your feedback @dyutibaxi6659. I do understand that not everyone will agree with this information, but I will always suggest organic produce above non-organic. Either way, I believe they should be washed before being prepared. Also, for some foods, like the salad leaves, I believe the pre-packaged works out cheaper and stops as much waste. Regarding the Fit Grandparents Project, we already have many members in their 40's, 50's, and over who are already grandparents. Our content is heavily geared towards informing people in those age categories, so I feel we are already covering the advice that's needed within the Fit Mother Project and Fit Father Project. I appreciate the idea though.

I eat rolled oats. Should be eating a certain kind?
@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 9 месяцев назад
@sarrahconley3143 - There is not too much difference between rolled oats and steel-cut oats, so both are fine. I would suggest avoiding any of the instant packaged oats though, as these often contain flavorings, added sugar, salt, etc.

Some people cannot buy organic and some things aren't necessary to buy organic. For example, my local bulk store is a Walmart. ^ organic Mission tortillas are a whopping $12! SO my normal everyday breakfast is low carb bacon and eggs with slices of tomatoes and/or half an avocado. Have decided not to eat bread. Any good high quality bread will still have carbs. I have a demanding sedentary at home job. I cannot afford to eat too many carbs of that form. Only veggies. However, I do eat nuts and fruits (bananas and tangerines) Can't eat a greenish banana. But I also eat low sugar Greek yogurt. Buying in bulk is a good concept because once its bought, it will last a while...however, they cost alot in the first place for more of a quantity. I prefer to spend small amounts and buy more often.
@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for your response @tamiramos5873 - That is a high price for some tortillas, that's for sure. What you are currently eating is good, and it sounds like it suits your needs. Cutting back on bread and eating nuts, fruits and veggies is great.

The advice is sound, but the main point was about doing this on a budget. A lot of these foods are expensive when you have a large family. I have 5 kids and most of them are boys. That adds up after a while. Thanks for the advice but there has to be a cheaper way of eating without breaking the bank. (Conspiracy time) Unless, this was all designed this way to keep Americans sick so that the healthcare industry and big pharma can maintain a healthy margin. Ask any doctor that is just recently finished residency and see how much education they were given in medical school on preventive health care such as nutrition. Hospitals make more money on sick people than they do on health ones. Don't get me going on mental health. That's a whole new level of conspiracy.

@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 9 месяцев назад
Hey Shelly, thanks for writing in and great question! Sourdough is a solid option because it doesn't have as big of a glycemic or blood sugar spike as other types. It's also easier to digest and the "mother" starter found in sourdough can help aid gut health. Thanks for watching! -The FMP Team
