I would never had said anything until you started painting one sardine with another... but it is sort of monstrous the way you dissect the lil guys and dangle their spines above their mangled bodies. It's very entertaining. 👍
The background music on this video is the best I've ever heard. Reminds me of my old 8 bit and 16 bit nes and snes days. Man I got to break out my nes tonight
@@CannedFishFilesWhen you drop in the 3 2 1 Contact theme and transitions it gets me right in the feels. Yes I found you a week ago and I'm like halfway though your back catalogue. ❤
It took me months after watching one of your videos with the titanium chopsticks to finally track down and purchase a few pair. Mine look identical to yours. Snow Peak. Perfect for picking up dainty little morsels of goodness and teasing gently some spine action. Can't eat any dines or tinned seafood of any sort without them now. Merci beaucoup monsieur Carlson!
As Steve Martin used to say “ It’s like those French have a different word for everything!” I didn’t know there was such a thing as French deenz. You never cease to amaze. Congratulations on 4k subs!
Oh man, it's the shyt you talk during filming is what makes the vidja for me. Btw I've tried King Oscars sardines due to a video of yours and enjoyed them.
I first started eating sardines with chopsticks after watching the Good Eats “Live and Let Diet” episode. It helps you to eat more slowly and enjoy every bite. I’ve really been enjoying your channel. Great content. All the best to you.
Our family recipe that we do each year for Christmas is sardines mixed with butter (like 50/50) with some seasoning, pepper salt, why not some lemon, and whatever you like... My grandmother used to make this more than 30years ago, and it's still a thing that we do today.
The Mouettes de arvor brand has a tin of sardines with garlic & butter & if you remove the lid & place the opened can sitting in a heated up sauté pan & heat the entire tin of sardines to warm then turn the tin upside down onto your plate so that sauce that WAS on the bottom of the tin is now warm & poured on top of the sardines… it’s delicious, instead of just eating them straight out of the tin that’s been sitting on a shelf for who knows how long. It lets you experience the sauce WITH the sardine & it’s a better experience (to me, anyway).
7:44 “It’s not my job to pick a winner” haha you’re the only man on RU-vid doing this though so… I’m so glad you kept the sardines and canned seafood videos coming. You really got a lot of subscribers since you hit 1,000.
Only $8?! A few of the terraces down my way will sell these to you for nigh on $25. Sure, they have to turn a profit but quality tinned fish can be quite expensive. Great vid.
I just ordered titanium chopsticks after watching your videos. Theres a lot of knockoffs online (titanium coated stainless steel). That's fine, but pure titanium won't transfer heat like stainless does when you're stirring coffee or hot noodles. Just an FYI for anyone who hasn't got a set yet. The titanium is worth saving your hands from burning!
6:30 in the morning January 20th 2022. Turn on my phone then on to RU-vid have an immediate choice between football highlights and sardines. What is happening to me, I chose the sardine video. Been watching for a few months really enjoy it and I eat a lot of sardines thanks
Dueling Deenz from Brittany !! French yes but Brittany has its own thing going on. Are British tinned sardines a thing? Or are sardines a geo political rabbit hole ? Man those titanium chopsticks are like mustache power super conductors, amplifying the grok. The tail painting was sublime and monstrous, reminded me of Godzilla grabbing a train car and throwing it into a building.
@@CannedFishFilesyeah man a sardine between two titanium sticks is basically a Fuzz Pedal. But whip out those Ti sticks at your local sushi bar and the ladies will swoon. However on a camping trip I think there is a surplus of sticks growing out from the trees. I never really appreciated just how complicated these finer details can be.
These look super good, the French do all food Good, The Dutch are the Experts with the fish, They eat Herring thats been Brined and salted so GOOD, its not Raw like people think, and All the Canned Dutch Sardines are the Best, They do a fried Fish Called Kibbling it is so much better than English Fish & Chips. I Love all Dutch Food >>>>>
So pleased you are back...even with a recent haircut....looks good...in some ways I think you are totally out of your mind (what are you doing there anyway???) However rather sweet and creative. I use my sardines to make a pasta sauce - doesn't matter if they are with tomatoes or not. However, most of the pilchards on sale in supermarkets here in the UK come in small, round and tall cans as opposed to flat. They are also very nice and substituted for tuna in sandwiches during my poor days. Still like them though.
Sardines and pasta is a beautiful thing. Thanks for the hair encouragement. I am happily out of my mind so long as it doesn't interfere with the maintenance of a stable life with my wife and cats.
hey man - my boys love ur channel and forced me to make a fan video of u !!! they r huge fans ... u started them on wanting to learn chopsticks and sardine life !!!
Never had French sardines that I know of....looking forward to this video! First can: Nice plump little fishes. Look good. BTW...very cool titanium chopsticks. Re-usable and good for self defense too. Especially when camping. You can poke a bear's eye out with one of those....in a survival situation. You don't want to go poking bears eye's out for no reason....but I guess you already know that :) I loved that split open sardine. I always love the vertebrae which is so easy to eat and loads of calcium. I'd smear these on rye toast with some horseradish in a heartbeat! Okay Second Can: Oooh, a little stiffer fishes, not so plump. They look like they may have been smoked (and thus drier) prior to be canned. They look very good. Very nice French speaking! The second can sardines I want to make into a Quesadilla A La Veracruz. Excellent taste test. Thank you.
I like how thin and precise your titanium chopsticks are. Haha! I was typing that last sentence as mentioned the same thing. Your reason for buying them is perfectly acceptable.
I try to expand my worldly knowledge of various sardines, and your vids are always good for ideas but I always always come back to King Oscar Mediterranean Style in olive oil and with small black olive slices... I'm too cheap to spend $7 on can of unknown deens.
I'll tell you, you're missing out... but you're also not really missing out! You're eating really great sardines in those KOs. If I could get some of these fancy sardine companies to do a sponsored video, I'd like do a giveaway as part of it. Maybe send a few cans out to people that are on the fence about trying them.
Awesome coincidence you just put out a sardine video this morning. Last night I was ordering some new things on amazon and was comparing items that you have reviewed and what I wanted to buy such as the scallops (I bought the Ramon Pena small scallops in sauce) and I passed on the cod liver. I currently have the Conservas de Cambados Razor Clams in Brine and the Squid in Ink in my cabinet next up on deck. Thanks for the videos I appreciate it!
While I haven’t tried that exact tin of Connetable, I prefer Mouettes. i only wish that Mouettes were a bit closer to my budget for an everyday tin. It is too bad that Connetable is no longer available in the USA.
i've wanted to use the word "grock" in a sentence unironically for quite some time now, but for some reason i can't bring myself to do it. i get shy. kudos.
I have managed to source the connetable in Asia, they are pretty pricey between 700-1400 yen depending on the outlet. Recently found some sort of outlet sale for imported foods where I could buy 3 cans for 1000 yen, these ones were in olive oil with the spines removed. Pretty good easy for making salads or pasta but the skin condition is not great (like yours). Still prefer bristling sardines though in general.
I’ve been holding on to my $8 can of Mouettes D’arvor (lemon with pepper) until today, I finally ate them & I was definitely not impressed. While the flavor was very good except for the super fishy taste, they were super mushy, had gobs of scales in the bottom of the can & my favorite part of eating sardines is pulling out the spine to eat it but the spines in these would not come out in less than 5 pieces. It just wouldn’t hold together so I was disappointed. So far my favorite all-time sardines are $4 Matiz with lemon.
Sock-Ray-Bloo, top quality vid as usual. Have you ever tried the Iberia sardines, large red oval can 15oz. in tomato, I guess that is the only way they come. I was leery to open them and try them, most likely the gnarlyist of any sardines I have tried, you like spines, massive and crunchy these have them, scales and bonz too, I`m not sure if these are sardines, but that is what the can states, certainly not the normal item, they are very common here in Tampa. Only in tomato, not my fav, but they do taste better than they present. Only for the advanced consumer!
I think I have seen those. They are not with the rest of the sardines, right? I think Goya makes the same kind. Huge red tin, tomato sauce. Yes, many in our community are likely curious about these. I have always assumed "These are for aunties that know exactly what they're going to do with them."
@@CannedFishFiles Yeah, the cans are normally in a separate place, kind of segregated, several different brand names, all using the identical large oval tin. We have a large Spanish population and I`m pretty sure that is who would be using these, a giant tin for around 1.75 a good value for that amount, Thanks.
To be fair, i..ve never seen the "mouettes d'arvor" cans anywhere. But it seems decent quality too. It's not unusual to find the same production under different names in this business, fishing. Connetables is definitely the premium product you'll buy anywhere in France.
Yes, they're titanium Snow Peaks. I really like them. They're very inert tasting. They have the qualities of metal, but it doesn't taste like silverware.
Do you have a postbox adress? I can send you some French sardines if you want. We have MANY sorts of sardine cans here in France. Huge aisles in most supermarkets
A little doughy. Nuff said. If they were open for 1 year instead of 35 or a chain instead of family the true score would come out. A MAXIMUM OF 6. Dave can't keep it real cuz he's a softy at heart. Why we love him, watch him, pray for him not to have a heart attack between all the pizza cheese, Adderall, and other goodies. 😮
