If you think New Zealand's bio restrictions are wild, go to the Galapagos. Their version of the TSA told us this story about how they found a bunch of puppies in a pregnant woman's fake stomach. They figured it out because the population of the Galapagos is so small one of the customs people recognized her and knew she wasn't pregnant a week earlier. They also told us they caught someone with a suitcase full of dozens and dozens of baby iguanas.

Yeah, I went and they were like "thoroughly check you clothes and shoes for any seeds that are attached, no muddy shoes bc of what might be in the mud". They're also super restrictive on allowing cars, like on some of the smaller islands you would be able to easily recognize every car there.

I had a science teacher in middle school who said "the moon had no gravity so that's why the astronaut's wore weights" and at the time I knew the moon was 1/6th earths G, and said that as well as the fact that it there was no gravity weight wouldn't make a difference and he just denied it. Faygo is from Detroit is why, and cheap. I was at one show and they just stopped everything when a bell rung, yelled "faygo time" and half a dozen clowns pulled-out a coffin or something with about 400 two liters of faygo and everyone on stage (like 12 people) pummeled the crowd with them. I remember one chick getting beaned off her dome and she left on a stretcher. There were 6 or 8 waiting ambulances when the doors opened.

I took ME 435 Mechatronics at CSUN in 2019 and it was one of my favorite classes. I’m pretty sure that program was revamped because I didn’t have the same experience. The professor did briefly go over the resistance band colors but didn’t stress any importance or expect us to memorize them. Most of it was learning Arduino IDE and breadboarding (which I guess you can learn all that off of the Arduino website for free), but I still had a lot of fun with it.

as a michigander, there are things in detroit besides 9mm handguns and lowrider cars. there is a really gentrified (veeeeery white) part of the city and a few arenas and a casino. Also faygo was just a regional drink in michigan that never really regionalized past northern ohio, ICP didnt make faygo a thing it was huge among michiganders before and they happen to be michiganders

I worked installing security systems for a few years. They guy who "trained" me did the same mnemonic system for the colors of electrical tape he used to label door and window wires. I refused and just used white tape and wrote the number with a sharpie.

I feel like the way to sneak a snake on is to pose as an organ transplant delivery person. They pretty regularly fly public flights and nobody is stopping them to check that box. The box could also keep the snake cold and sluggish so it wouldn’t cause any trouble during the flight

About the snake thing: It's largely only live animals that aren't allowed, taxidermy like skin and bones are fine. I've even bought perfectly legal snake pelts here in NZ. It's that they just need a permit for importing. The ban is mostly on reptiles. Many other animals like tropical fish & common "non exotic" pets commonly get in via permits. Funnily enough, MPI have to deal with roughly 2 snakes a year getting through, often in imported machinery or shipping containers. There's a small handful of cases of them establishing and breeding in the wild, although they're considered extinct. A few years back there was a colony of australian brown snakes living in garbage dump.

ugh my most infuriating case of fighting a teacher when they're wrong was in middle school science, when we were learning biology. We did a worksheet and one of the questions was something like "if a mom and dad make 2 babies, what is the probability that the babies end up as the same gender/sex? (assuming no genetic irregularities)" The answer is 50%, so I put down 50%, and got it wrong. I asked the teacher afterwards why it's wrong, and they said it was 25% because the first baby has a 50% chance of being either male/female, and the second baby is also 50%, so you multiply it and get 25%. And no matter how hard I tried to explain to them that the sex of the first baby doesn't matter, they didn't understand! And they taught us about Punnett Squares! I don't know if they were just so bad with probabilities, or if they closed off their mind into considering I was right since I was like 13 and they were 40

59:10 in first grade (c. 2012), a boy told me that he had seen the sequel Star Wars movies -which I don’t think were even announced at the time- and said that Darth Mual came back and fought Luke Skywalker, and that in the fight, Luke force snatched Mual’s lightsaber and turned it green. This is surreal, I spent most of last year working not far away from here, and all over the Waikato district. I know the people that sold you that ostrich egg on the corner that brings you towards the Waitomo caves! Is a slight chance I've done work for the farm that you're currently AirBnB-ing on (I worked for a major agricultural contractor down there) I'm guessing you're shacked up somewhere around Otorohanga. I love that area so much. If you're passing through Kihikihi again on your way towards Auckland stop at Viand's bakery for the best mince and cheese pie and sausage roll you'll ever have.

Suicide Hotline by ICP is a great song that exemplifies Allen's point. The lyrics are very vulnerable and aggressive at times, but the song ends with a sermon. The sermon leads to the song Crooked Preacher Killers, which is critical of crooked preachers. My favorite thing about their music is that they have nuanced views that are consistent in each album. They also have goofy songs but they're clowns lol

I imagine if there's been individual cases of a smuggled animal having been released, you still need a pair to make a new one, and that pair needs to find each other, and that pair needs to get it on. So theres some level of tolerance even to that, unless you can smuggle a whole bunch.

I always remember a multi part thing for resister colours my high school teacher taught us: Black Bears(not even a part of the rest of it, but he had good luck in having people remember black+brown out of those two words without mixing them up which happens using other mnemonics). Roy Of York Gave Battle Valiantly(referring ROYGBIV) Gone Wrong(Like the RU-vid clickbait). It's not a great mnemonic, but it was repeated so often when I was in high school I can't forget it so at least it sticks with me.

in rural areas like where i live in Pennsylvania we have to use electric well pumps to get water, so when my power goes so does my water, heat, internet everything and at night the only light is my distant neighbors so if the power goes it gets real dark. its smart to either have batteries or a generator if you are in an area like that

I learned the color code when I was 13, and I read resistor values like people read words. The 3 band values are E24, so 24 values per decade, so not random, just like words are spelled instead of a random jumble of letters.

My training to be an electrican involved a different menomonic to remember resistor color bands by. Not that I remember what it is but it wasn't that lol.
