Today is the 3rd episode of my Silom series as we hit Charoen Krung in Bang Rak for an awesome local Thai street food breakfast.
We started with a Cha Yen Thai (Thai iced coffee) at a little coffee truck called Musna Coffee then headed for Guayabera Teow Lord (steamed noodles) at Jae Yai, who I kept calling Jae Gai like an idiot. We then finished up with Khao Khao Moo (pork leg on rice) at one of my favourite spots in the city called Khamoo Thewada Bangrak.

I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

Gary, you're in the neighborhood I grew up in before Robinson or the Shangri-la Hotel was even built. I used to live on Charoen Krung Sri 46 next to the gold shop. It appears that Jae Yai started her business when I moved to the U.S. Lots of good food in that neighborhood. Another fun video!

Just that, order Khao khao moo and say ow kai (want egg) they won’t give you anything else withought asking. If you don’t want skin say ‘mai ow nang’

Thank you Gary for doing these videos. I am Thai and I live in the US. I have been trying to tell people that Thai food served in restaurants in the US is so limited. It does not even represent 1% of what is available in Thailand. You are showing Thai food beyond Pad Thai, Curry, Drunken noodles. I am returning to Thailand this June for three months to eat. I want to visit all these restaurants you reviewed.

Was in this area yesterday. Visited Chao Phraya Sky Park, Santa Cruz Church and IconSiam. Going to Sabaijai in Ekamai today for the best Gai yang, grilled pork and som tom. 😋 Try it someday. Oh, have already been to a curry place you recommended in Thonburi. Tasty.

I was in Bangkok last week. I won't be going back. Your senses are assaulted 24/7. You can't walk on the pavements, they're narrow and every square inch is taken by a street vendor. The traffic is insane & dangerous, the millions upon millions of motorscyles/scooters at every turn. The air heavy with pollution and smell of fried food. There is no peace, loud music everywhere.

I also drank that drip coffee Boran in the 80s with that real sterilized milk,, that was the best coffee. You have to watch out with those homemade things,, I saw one time the kitchen where it was made, man the cat sat on the counter and the cockroaches were running around.i will never buy food that is ready in plastic in Thailand again.i now eat where i see the food being prepared Garry…haha, finally found the right boiled eggs i see ,you don't see that often in Thailand.

I love stewed pork but its one of those dishes you can't eat daily, well for me at least. Can't find it in restaurants in fort worth, either get lucky relatives bring leftovers or make it myself. Which i did once and it was fabulous. Yeah the hard boiled eggs kinda ruin its flavor, quail eggs are the way to go in my opinion.

Noodles with soy sauce back in 1970's : all the ingredients were put inside roll dry shrimp noodles and baked. Before serving customers, they cut these roll noodles with scissors many times all over them and pouring with sweet black soy sauce. // But after 2000's, many vendors haven't been making the noodles in roll anymore to have it easier prepared. 😊 This is why, this food is still be called in Thai "Kuay-Tiew-Lord" [Lord means "straw" (shape-likes)]

That makes perfect sense as when I looked them up when I first got to Thailand , they translated to stuffed noodles. Then I had them and they aren’t stuffed 😂
