These are the type of testimonial video that scare me away from eBay. Wife has also had a few problems on there too. Still gotta find a good way to unload a lot of watches. Great video man. Thanks for the honest info.

I sold a watch on Ebay and the buyer sent me a photo of some branches, and said that arrived instead of a watch. From now on, I always film when a pack up a watch to be sold, and whenever I open a package. Not sure if it helps, but at least there is video proof of some sort.

Doesn’t work. Ebay will always side with the customer either way. Video means very little to them unfortunately.

My question is, let say a seller sends you a genuine piece, you (a scammer) tells them you want a refund cos the watch is a fake. If asked to return you return a fake. The scammer might gets the refund and gets to keep the real watch. Ebay/paypal prob will fork out the money if the poor scammed seller doesn’t pay up, but how can you avoid such thing?
@steelsteez6118
@steelsteez6118 Год назад
wont make a difference if you get another buyer like this one. You can film yourself packaging your watch all you want. It still doesn't prove that after you were done filming, that you didnt unpackage the item, remove the watch, stuff branches inside the packaging instead, and then re-package it. At least this is what the buyer can easily claim. The only way to deter this for sure with 100% certainty is to have the parcel service agree to have you film them while they package the watch for you. Of course you will have to pay extra since they will be the ones to provide all the packing material PLUS the labor of packaging the product. You will also want to get insurance to cover the full cost of the watch because, well, the person packaging the item now knows they're in possession of a very expensive luxury item. It sucks, and you will pay a lot more but you'll know for sure you'll be good.

eBay has worked out for me sold 3 watches (longines, anonimo, frederique constant) no problem. I tried buying an Omega Seamaster from seller in Hawaii. The watch seemed lost in transit by USPS and eBay credited my transaction no problem.

eBay is great as a buyer and tough as a seller. When buying and selling little things, like cheap books, it's great, but scams are rife with expensive things.

Im worried about the Authenticity Guarantee because there is no proof they open the watch to verify the movement.

I always wonder what they do if you get a Franken-rolex. Parts from a real one put on a fake one. I know someone who got a real rolex with a 1 to 1 clone movement....this is why I don't buy super expensive watches on there. I am not sure how the authentication process works but I would like to see a video of how the process works...

This is old post, But Now As of 2023 we have seller protection, You can protect yourself by looking at buyer feedback, Quick Glance toward the type of item's they buy, Look at the history of Positive Feedback As Negative. Look at what type of feedback they give Seller, See If they give out lots of negative feedback towards non-sense. Sidenote: Cross Shipping: Check carefully with those oversea CrossShipper Feedback: Double check the history, If they buy penny items just for feedback, And Suddenly Purchase a high value item.

I havent been burned but I made an offer on a nice steinhart a few weeks ago, when I made the offer I was emailed a photo with a paragraph written on it that he could accept my offer off ebay so he could avoid the fees. It would have also meant me as the buyer would not have any ebay protection or recourse if it goes wrong, so told him to stuff it

Got burned twice by eBay's authentication service. Once as a seller and another time as a buyer. Not a good record so far. 1. Sold a solid gold Omega that was running when I mailed it. Authentication service said it was not running and refunded the buyer. I got the watch back and it was running perfectly. Sold the item off of eBay to the original buyer. He was satisfied. 2. Bought a mint condition Tudor. Arrived with 10+ dings/scratches in the case. Should have never made it to my door. Returned for full refund. The authentication/expert/inspection service is a fucking joke.

@TheHobbyist412 2 года назад
Buyer beware. If you decide to return your purchase the authenticator can claim you damaged the watch even if you never handled it. I am going through this right now and it's a living nightmare. I am stuck with a damaged watch and a huge bill. There are many other sites that sell watches that are more trustworthy. The ebay authenticator is just a middle man that adds more risk for things to go awry.

I like eBay to appoint. It’s extremely extremely difficult to get live help. And when I was new to the hobby of watch collecting I got ripped off my fake watches. Even last month I purchased a watch that was described as a San Martin 40mm with pt5000 movement. New. But here is what I got are used watch and I could tell because it was not wrapped in plastic was 43mm but here’s the worst part it had the seiko Nh36 movement not the better PT5000. What a pain solving this. But in the end everything was solved and I got my money back but I was so pissed that guy is lucky he did not live close to me. LOL it might be funny now but I meant it then

Should do one about Leo Walker selling fake microbrand watches. They have us and several others including Hamtun up there, selling them for under $70 USD each. They've stolen all the pictures and listing content from our crowd finding sites. And people, obviously not bright ones, are falling for it and buying them. Then they contact us when they don't get one of our watches.
@WatchChris

I wonder also how it looks on Chrono24.Is there a better buyer protection.Sometimes can get a really great price from a private seller,but again I afraid to try.

@markedfortime 3 года назад
I've purchased on chrono24, but not often. I limit my purchases to those with verified feedback and many transactions. I prefer the verified dealers..I don't know how they are verified, but I'm assuming there is some background check chrono24 does to qualify them.

I have bought quite a few watches off r/watchexchange on reddit, and watchyouseek's marketplace forum. Because they are forum based both communities do a very good job self policing with transaction review /feedback sections for both sellers and buyers, you at least have the seller/buyers' track records and comment history. Because of the forum nature of the site- you can also check who's leaving the feedback and research them to make sure they are legit members. Which is the key for me- I drill down from the seller's feedback/review post> to reviewing member's profile and post history> and then look at the history of how the reviewing member was reviewed by other members>drilling down more as necessary; only then I can be fairly sure that things are on the up & up. I also have a hard rule that the seller have a history of at least 2 years on the given site. Only if all these boxes are ticked- do I buy or sell. Over the years I have had really good luck using this method and have never been burned.

You can get "burned" with any business transaction, even in person. No platform, store, source, etc. is scam or problem free. Caveat emptor. I've been buying and selling on eBay since 1997, and the number of problems I've had roughly equal the number of problems I've had elsewhere. I'm no eBay fanboy, but I'm not sure what people expect. It's basically a broker that cannot police millions of daily transactions, which, by and large, are legitimate. The merit/feedback system works pretty well. The fact eBay is at least trying to significantly reduce the amount of fake or proxy watches being sold and traded through the relatively new Authenticity Guarantee program shows they are at least putting forth earnest effort. Will this program be 100% foolproof? Of course not. I can't think of a better system, though.
