This video introduces ebikeanywhere, a crowdsourced database of public electrical outlets. It will encourage adventurers to travel using their ebikes, and extend the utility of ebikes. It is a progressive web app, so you can install it on your android and Apple phones, directions included. You are encouraged to add outlets that you discover.

I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time now. I was very happy to see this new video from you. By watching your videos, I made my first ebike battery, 2 batteries run in series, and I charge it with a dual hobby charger. It works great! I hope that you read my comment because I want to relay my appreciation for giving me your knowledge!

what a great ideal and ive watched you on and off for yours but was your videos that shine alot more light on things us ebikes on a budget unlike all the flasher guys that obviously have plenty extra income but anyway i just get a real down to earth guy feeling but awesome ideal i can say the easiest time to find extra out lets is xmas time as there more outlets people dont realize most started with covers etc but there plastic or flimsy and break in time but make sure to ask before as some can be touchy

Nice will have to check this out. My state is a hell scape. Update (Arizona) Lol none. Love the idea. Just got a 10a charger just for this. Think I could sell others on this as I'm a small E-bike RU-vidr. Would also be nice to have a Non-webpage offline version. Many areas in my state have no cell phone service.
@shawname2
@shawname2 Год назад
That would be nice Eric- but it is beyond my current knowledge. I'll look into it, see if there is any way for someone to upload a database to their phone. A 10 amp charger is ideal, as it draws 1,200 watts, which is about the upper limit of power draw before tripping circuit breakers. I traveled with one that size. Of course, it means you should be using say a 2KWH battery to be at that 1/2 C rating... with me?

@@shawname2 I have to link all 3 of my batteries in parallel to use my 10a. (20a, 15a, 8a) Only connecting when volts match. (54.6v * 10a) + about 300 watt waste. Just replaced my main BMS again (Upload to YT) with a Daly so the Charge/Discharge is the same wire. I am a retired programmer BTW. Also going to link your channel on my channel page. My subs are into ebike stuff!

Hi Kamal, I no longer make the kits. My new residence in Maine is too cold for the 3d printers to work properly. Sorry!

there is one app at least here in Australia, called plug share, listing all EV charging stations and their 240V plugs, and everybody can add power outlets where they find them. You need to include the EV charging stations for the future
@shawname2
@shawname2 Год назад
Household outlets in the US are 110 volts, unlike Australia's 220 volt outlets. Ebikes here use 110 volt outlets to charge, and electric cars use 220 volts or higher. Besides, ebikes are efficient charging at about 1000 watts, a safe 100 volt power draw, which will add a mile for a minute of charge time. But ecars would only add about three miles for an hour of charge at that rate. The app is aimed to assist in "stealth charging." No need to pay when using a few cents worth of power... ; )
@chrigdichein
@chrigdichein Год назад
@@shawname2 yes of course 110V, but no difference to the app. Aren’t there any apps showing EV chargers already? This are massive companies with big budges. They wipe anybodies app efforts out in a second
@shawname2
@shawname2 Год назад
@@chrigdicheinAgreed, a big company could make my effort obsolete or at least redundant, but that would be great! IF something better does come along that's suitable for ebike use, we could merge our database to theirs... There are 5 different apps for electric cars in the USA now. Charge Hub and Plug Share aggregate all EV chargers. Electrify America and Charge Point are only for their charging stations, and EVgo does both. Goanywhere Tesla is of course proprietary across both cars and chargers. They are all for high voltage EV's, focus on major routes- not preferred for ebike travel- and none allow you to add an outlet- I'm happy to be corrected here!

i like the idea, there is a similar app for both fruit trees, and public bathrooms, you could check them out, sound like your style. So far for my ebike, ive recharged at the closest random church.....religion irrelevant...... no one has said anything so far....considering most churches giving nature, im sure no one will complain, maybe ask questions. even the smallest of towns usually has 1 church of some kind, so it should be reliable long distance ( i have yet to try it)
@shawname2
@shawname2 Год назад
Yes, I have charged at many churches- they have the advantage of being rarely occupied as well. Consider adding some church outlets when you find them!

Thank you Shawn, great idea, but the three dots or lines do not have an "install app" item (at least for my android device), and BTW, why should a user share location to see where charging outlets are located anywhere in the country?! too intrusive. The home page has a map that only show a few outlet locations is the semi-empty state of Maine!!! Finally, can someone from the app team contact the headquarters of companies like "Dollar General" or "Subway" or things like that, that are everywhere to ask them if ebikers can charge at there locations to provide a customer base increase (probably for a dollar a charge or making a purchase or something). They don't need to install anything new because they all have outlets outside and all they need is to spread the word and some advertisement campaign (if the desire). It is for their own good.
@shawname2
@shawname2 Год назад
Thank you for this feedback. Did you try it with the website open on your phone? Let me know.... You do not have to share your location, but if you do, the app will put a bicycle on the screen in your location, which makes it easier to navigate to an outlet. No, I am not collecting data! LOL. Yes, there are currently only outlets in Maine, from trips I have taken. The dtatbase will need to be crowdsourced, preferably from people who are riding routes... I am the app developer, team and I am not a pro. As an ecyclist, who has traveled around the country on an ebike, I developed this charging approach: If the establishment is a mom-pop place, I ask permission. If it is corporate owned, I just plug in. The employees working there don't care or notice. Of course I go in and buy something. I have never had any issues. Cheers, and let me know if you want to talk further!

BTW, Thank you for coming back to posting videos after all those years. I've been wondering what happened to you since the last one. You are the one who convinced me years ago with your common sense that the "BMS" is a commercial gimmick that is not needed and since then, I only balance my battery(s) cells when charging and only once a week or so. You are a phenomenon and thank God for people like you.
