It’s a busy Saturday at Haute & Co, which makes Shannelle feel very proud of how far the shop has come. She’s relying on Remeka more than ever, giving Jen more responsibility with bridesmaids, as well as incorporating Allie into her style assists. Eccentric bride Emily reveals to Shannelle that she’s in a polyamorous relationship and surprises Shannelle by inviting her groom to see the dress she chose. Shannelle is not shy about speaking up about the rarity of a groom coming into her shop. Our second bride MaryLynn comes in for her final fitting and gets emotional when her sister presents their deceased mother’s veil. Her brother then surprises she and the family by presenting MaryLynn with an unexpected heirloom from her mother.

Wow! Well tremendous moment when this bright got to put her Mother’s Veil on her....She just looked amazing with her dress! What a difficult thing to overcome, losing your mother but in such a way as she did! I’m so happy she had such a large group there to support her and then to bring a ring and the veil to make her feel as if her mother was there with her. Despite looked so fabulous and petite in such a cute face and smile and she just looks stunning in her new dress. Again kudos to the staff For their professionalism and over-the-top sensitivity for a very difficult situation. This Bridal Shop deserves awards for compassion and kindness❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

Hey, I am a size 30/32 and I like to wear "flattering" clothes. Definitions count. Flattering to me means accentuating parts I like and down playing parts I do not like. So, there are "flattering" styles. But since the definition of "flattering" can be different to different people I suppose staying away from that word is playing it safe.

yes exactly. To me if someone says a dress is 'flattering', I'd be likely to think they were not really a fan of it, but I guess its in how they say it. Kinda like how when someone says 'oh that's nice'... if its like... said flatly, its going to be a dodgy statement, but if its like 'oh that's NIIICEEEE!' then its a good statement.

Note: It occurred to me that there might be a reason why the owner pronounces "Celtic" the way she does. In the US, there is a professional basketball team called the Boston Celtics. The official name of the team is pronounced with a soft s rather than a hard k at the beginning. For people who are most familiar with the word in that context, they might tend to say it that way. AND I acknowledge that all of you who mentioned the correction are right in this context.

Her words, her shop. But she absolutely makes me cringe every time she throws out "snatch" as one of her brand words. For centuries, "snatch" has been one of the three ugliest disrespectful words to describe a woman's genitals. You can't rework it into something else, or make it pretty. The entire point of shopping for a bridal gown and having alterations is so it flatters your body on your wedding day, no matter what type of body you have. No one buys clothes to look like a sack of potatoes. Everyone likes clothing that makes them look as good as possible. Shannelle was trying to be body positive but this was a big misstep. Mom was right.

For you coming for the owner for correcting the mother, listen here, when big girls try on clothes and someone says "that's flattering" that is an underhanded dig. Whether it be malicious (which the mother wasn't being) or NOT, it is a dig at people not a size 2. "Oh the dress is really flattering" means "Oh the dress is hiding your rolls and gut". @Glittery Glitz, The word "flattering" often has a deeper meaning: nice, okay, doesn't make you ugly, passable, or "since I don't have anything else to say...". If someone or something is beautiful, you don't use the word "flattering" without qualifications. Example: "You look gorgeous in that dress, and it is particularly flattering to your hair /skin color" Of course the mom understands this use. She wasn't impressed by the dress, that's why she used the word. But the bride to be didn't come there to look flattering, she came to leave gorgeous!

I'm so glad she said what I've been thinking watching SYTTD, Curvy Brides, and this: the word "flattering" is HORRIBLE! It basically means, "this makes you look less fat than you already are!" or, "with that dress on, I almost forgot how fat you were!". They never say that to the skinnier girls, only the plus-sized ones. I'm not even plus-sized and every time I hear that word it makes me cringe.

@veggiesaremurder
@veggiesaremurder 2 года назад
@@dee191403 I don't mind that one, because I've never heard it said to an ugly person. Lol. But for some reason, whenever someone says, "Oh, that dress is so flattering on you!!!" to someone, it's always been a fat person they've said it to (literally in my entire life). I've never been told that something looked "flattering" on me until I gained about 30 pounds several years ago, which I quickly lost. As soon as I was fat, "flattering" was suddenly a word people used to describe me. Never before nor since has anyone told me that x looked flattering on me. There's a possibility that there are some regions where the meaning differs. I have a sister who is plus-sized, and she always looks "flattering" or "slimming" wherever we go, whereas everyone else looks "beautiful", "gorgeous", or they comment on how the color is perfect on them, the pattern is great, where'd you get it, etc. I'm really protective of her because I've seen and heard this, and far more reprehensible shit, for YEARS, so whenever someone says, "oH mA GaH, sOoO FlaTteRiNg!", my sister and I just roll our eyes and depending on my mood or if I know the person is a piece of shit in general, I'll make a comment about how their makeup makes them look like a completely different person, like, pretty!, or something.

I’ve been reading comments and I’m really surprised that people are negatively addressing the “flattering” statement. Please remember she is dressing curvy plus sized women. All women want to look beautiful on their wedding day, not just flattering. What builds a woman’s self esteem more? Hearing, “That dress flatters you” or “You look beautiful in that dress.” We have to remember that brides want to look beautiful no matter their size. Looking in bridal magazines you see gorgeous models usually size 2 or 4. At times, when you’re larger, a boost of self esteem is much appreciated.

This shop is dealing with women who have been turned away from almost every other bridal shop during to their size. The word, "flattering" is a code word for plus sized women to mean, "Well, you don't look ugly in it so you might as well settle for it". When the mother uttered that word, it comes from that background of use and the shop owner and everyone in there knew it (look at their expressions). The dress she wound up with evoked strong emotions and words from the bride and everyone else present, and the word, "flattering" wasn't used at all. BIG difference.

Doors can damage dresses more. Imagine getting a dress with a full skirt caught on a doorknob or hinge. Doors get dirty too, dust and handprints near the knobs. All if that causes wear and tear on the sample dresses. Curtains can be pulled down and washed, and never snag a lace dress. :)

I think she doesn’t like the word flattering because when I’ve heard my mom say that to me before I immediately think, “Oh, it’s slimming me” or “hides my stomach.” It automatically takes me back to feeling self conscious about myself even if it was meant to be a compliment.

Karina Jakobsen Tbf I don’t think it really matters because no modern day wedding dress is going to look like something the celts wore.as long as she is comfortable in it and feels happy that’s all that matters. she can make it feel more celtic with the accessories and wedding decorations since it’s difficult to show the vibe with a bright white wedding dress

I have to say I don't get flattering being a trigger word, if something is flattering it shows the bride's natural shape and enhances her beauty. I also felt like her reaction to the groom was a bit OTT like grooms are often more involved today and actually I would have thought she was rude.
@nsadaz

I'm confused, maybe it's because I've never been a bride, but wouldn't you want your fiance to be a part of the wedding planning? I see some people saying partner in planning = controlling, but I would want my boo to be a part of it. Making all the decisions alone sounds so exhausting and stressful. Although, the groom can wait outside while I figure out my dress.
@furbug11

Right?! The brides who don't allow their groom to have a say in any of it are the super controlling ones. That's not a partnership.

The owner was being so judgmental towards this bride. I mean yes I understand it's new for her a polymer relationship, no shoes and fiance coming in. Yes there won't be a wow factor when groom sees bride but if she wants opinion of his let it be. Also no shoes gosh that's fantastic as heels are painful. The bride said it's not a traditional wedding so what do you expect?! Also that purple hair was horrible tho. I love purple hair just not this😅
@lisaparrey1343
@lisaparrey1343 4 года назад
I think a groom shouldn't be involved in dress shopping as it takes away the wow factor, but in this case there was a bit of a compromise, as he saw the dress, but not her in it, and they are very different, so he can still be surprised
@pinkheart315
@pinkheart315 4 года назад
@@lisaparrey1343 yes I also think groom should not be involved as no wow factor left but that's our opinion not the brides. I mean people have different opinions so the consultant should have an open mind to it as she is selling dresses. But the happy medium like you said was good. She showed the dress but not on herself so still can surprise him. Another way to show a dress and still have surprise element is have an ugly look during consulting and glow up on wedding day. They be like this was the dress on you. Who are you and how you became so beautiful. Lol jk🤣

@pjmacinnes831
@pjmacinnes831 4 года назад
@@elouise5593 I suggest you do some research on what polyamory means, then. Many couples have a "primary" relationship partner. It's not just about going around and being with whomever you please. There are discussions, boundaries, and love involved. Open marriage and polyamory are not the same. Just because it makes no sense to you, that doesn't mean it isn't right for others.
@JaneRLeBlanc
@JaneRLeBlanc 4 года назад
@@elouise5593 Us poly people get married for the same reasons as anyone else - love. :) Some poly people choose to not legally marry one partner as to keep things more egalitarian between their relationships. But some have a primary partner and choose to legally marry them while still having deep, meaningful relationships with others (the relationships are as equal as they can be while still being legally married to one person). And some even choose to marry one person while still considering all their relationships equal, but recognizing the legal benefits of marriage. There are all kinds of setups. :) I hope this helps.
