ECCLESBOURNE VALLEY RAILWAY 'STEAM IN THE VALLEY' 2019

The Steam in the Valley weekend ran on the weekend of 15/16th June 2019. This video was shot on the 16th. Linesiding a railway for the first time is always a bit hit and miss but thanks to information from my friend Phil Waterfield I got some good footage in spite of the weather's efforts to spoil it. Locomotive performance however was excellent. All the footage was shot at the Duffield end as my plans to go to Wirksworth in the afternoon were thwarted by an accident which closed the road.
The two mainline engines were 52322 from the East Lancashire Railway and newly arrived 78018 from the Great Central.

Thoroughly enjoyable, thanks Alan. The quality is such that, without your description, I would have assumed you have considerable experience of filming here. It looked quite breezy there too, but happily without impact on the sound. In fact, I thought the sound with strong echo at 01:40 was brilliant. I really liked your vantage point at 07:50 and what's not like about the double-header at 08:35. Wonderful stuff! Kind regards, Bob.

My pleasure Bob. It would have been far more difficult without Phil's guidance but the two sequences that you mention were sheer luck. 07:50 was from a road bridge in a small country road where I set up and hoped and prayed that traffic didn't come...I was lucky! Kind regards Alan

That was very enjoyable Alan. like you were, I'm unfamiliar with this line so must have a trip sometime. Shame you could'nt cover the other end but I'm sure you will go back!! regards, Brian.

Pleased that you enjoyed it Brian. Unfortunately the number of photting locations are somewhat limited as it passes through private areas and is somewhat overgrown but is well worth the effort. Like General MacArthur, "I will return." Regards Alan

There looks to be quite a challenging gradient there.

I haven't studied a gradient profile of the line. The tunnel mouth shot is on the exit from Duffield Station. They seem to go gently until through the short tunnel then open up.
