I own a 455 rancher about 12 years or so, the Husqvarna never let me down, all these years, I cut wood for fire wood to heat my house. I love the 455 rancher, and I recently bought the CS590 at home depot for 399. I have not used it but I am sure I would like it. I think echo, Husqvarna and sthil are all good brands. Echo is manufacturers in Japan, Husqvarna is Sweden and Sthil is from Germany, I think they are all good
Those 590s are so close to the pro saws in other brands it's crazy. I think it's seriously the best value dollar for dollar. Love the comparison! I would pick up a used 460 and see if that extra 5cc helps keeps up with the 590. Although the husky is still a plastic clamshell case instead of mag case.
Both will cut wood with a sharp chain. MSRP: 455 rancher $500 cs590 $400 Take your pick and cut wood 🪵 lumberjack’s want speed, production, and daily usage buy a $1000+ saw. Great video, thanks for your time. I have owned both those models.
I think for me, I would agree that for most, pro saws are 60cc and above (with the exception of the 261c and 550xp) and also carry with the magnesium frame. More commonly they also carry some additional features like mtronic or auto tune- decomps used to only be on pro saws- adjustable oilers- rim sprockets-even so much as a magnesium clutch cover for increased durability. I think the 590 walks that line because of the included design features at the price. There's a lot it shares with the 620- I even just used a 620 piston in a 590 repair. Side note- personal opinion- husqvarna used to have a significant advantage over Stihl from a service standpoint. Everything was a big more logical in design and also fairly modular so you spend less time trying to get the task at hand done. However nowadays those once clear boundaries are pretty blurry and they're equally irritating to work on. Plus- the echo just looks cool. Also you can put a drop or two of dish soap in when you are getting ready to do the plastics- removes grease and similar from the plastics.
I was looking at a Stihl until I used the 590 my parents have on the ranch. Cut up a TON of red oak, live oak, mesquite, and red cedar. I was so impressed with it, I immediately bought myself one.
@@airlar4857 When I read your words, they are spoken in the voice of Ron Swanson...and it is amazing. Ya know, Nick Offerman recently did an episode on the "Armchair Expert" podcast with Dax Shepherd. It was great. They talk briefly about chainsaws. I've also read one of his books. Can't really remember which one it was...
@@novicelumberjack thanks for the tip - I stay so busy that I don't see much from media or internet unless I intentionally look for it, but that sounds like a good one. Looking forward to continuing my RU-vid PhD on Chainsaws and appreciate your info and take on chainsaws.. stay safe!
Good video! You said it, "it cuts wood, it does a good job, and i like it.........." case closed. Man focus on the positivity in the comments, the negative guys will always have something to say, regardless.
I dont plan on using my saw for a competition or for commercial work, but to do some moderately heavy duty property maintenence. I think the echo has my vote again, i love their yard trimmer
Seems to be the number one qualifier for lots of folks. I can hardly believe some of the prices for new Stihls. But hey, they're professional grade, right?
People like to talk in terms of pro vs homeowner but I think there's a few more classes. Homeowner, farm&ranch, pro-sumer, and pro. Homeowner Really is a clamshell that stops at like the 50cc ms170/250/poulan wild thing, farm & ranch is that 50-65cc clamshell like the 455/ms 310, pro-sumer is your mag case but often detuned budget oriented saw like the husky 555/365 echo 490/590 , then you've got you're honest to God pro saw which is typically 70+cc but can be lower, it's more about the intent of the design.
Great vid! I would like to see husky 460 rancher vs the echo 590. It would be more of an even race, 5cc's is 5cc's lol. I have a 460 but no access to a 590..
Safe to say there could be a difference from the bar and chains. But they are practically so close In performance. With that said factory reconditioned 455s are 300 bucks which you can't beat . And in the long run the husqvarna will last longer I always see comments of people buying thier 2nd or 3rd echo cs 590 and safe to say the 455 is just built better with better parts that will last
the 590 is the best of the farm-ranch saws . open up the muffler and give the carb a little touch and she will pull a 24" bar full comp all day long. the 620 is a better saw , but for the $$$ in the home owner class --nothing comes close. check out the 4910s
I will say the 590 has professional saw build quality. It doesn't measure up to modern pro saws in that class currently. However, dollar for dollar, the 590 is unbeatable. It pretty handily spanked that 455 rancher, and it cost $100 less new. And it is built to a far higher quality standard than the 455. My 590 definitely gained noticable power after about it's 10th tank. No, it's not a screaming saw with tons of chain speed like a 562xp, dolmar 6100, Stihl 362, or even the echo 620p. But it's a smooth, easy starting, torquey saw that is pretty forgiving to run. I am very excited to see it against the Husqvarna 61. They are basically holding the same place is the totem pole for their respective time frames. They should be close.
This shit is really funny man ! He don't care if he's having problems keeping up with the 590 echo ! Then gives him the mighty finger and walks off , shit Man this shit is hilarious , and informative 🤣
My neighbor has a 590 and that replaced his 61. He gave me his old 61 and I fixed my 61 with his. We are trying to set up a cut off race between the 2. I think my 61 is a bit better then most of the 61s Ive seen. I would say the 7310 is the closest to a pro saw . Cheers brother and good video
i was about to get a Husq 450 but walked out of the store and did some more research, Ordered a 590 later that night and it arrived today. Spent $20 less and got a lot more saw.
Just curious, have you tried the Stihl bar on the Echo yet? I just bought the adapter from Red Beard Saws and waiting on it in the mail. I bought a 70 link Stihl RS chain last week for my Echo bar and haven't used it yet and thought id wait and use it on a Stihl bar on my 590. Will I need to have the 2 links added back on for it to fit correctly on the 590 using the Stihl bar?
Full carb kit with inlet needle. The viton tip gets permeated and sticky. Then it won't regulate the fuel coming through correctly. Also as you know the diaphragms get hard. Sometimes it ain't even that they get hard. I've changed them out that felt okay, and it made all the difference in the world. The filter usually clogs the screen, and you don't get any fuel when it starts coming apart. I think if you put a good full on kit in it things will happen, and that saw will come back to life.
Never used the Echo, so can only comment on the 455. So far, I've found the Rancher to be a great saw. It may not be the fastest saw, but it is very robust and reliable!
All you need to know is that the "serious" Steel and Hoo-ska-Varna guys all hate on the CS-590, religiously.......they are that scared/jealous of it. I love my CS-590 and use it hard for 16hrs/day for 2 weeks straight preparing my firewood for the whole year. Never had a problem with it. My neighbor borrowed it a few times, and then went out and bought his own. So yeah, it's that good and dirt cheap to buy.
My muffler modded 590 just spanked my neighbors 562. Damn did his chain suck lol. I was hoping to see how close they were but 2 seconds was enough to know his revs way higher but it had no bite. I helped him find a better chain so hopefully i can say i ran a husky. Always had stihls but i wasn't spending what they want for a 361 but i am damn happy with that 590! It fills the gap nicely between my ms250/ms260 and my ms440. I refuse to abuse a chainsaw with a dull chain. I guess i spent a childhood doing it but didnt know what i know now.
None of these comparison videos are equally matched. The Echo 590 is powered by a 59.8cc engine. The Husky 455 is only a 55.4? engine. That’s a significant difference. I think you’d have to go a step above the 455 in regards to comparing the two makes to have an accurate assessment. On the Stihl comparisons, every example pits the Echo 590 against the Stihl 271, which is by no means a real world comparison when comparing engine size. A more accurate comparison for the 590 would be the Stihl 362, as both are roughly 60cc engine’s. Of course the Stihl 362 is more than twice the price of the 590.
I have a Echo CS590... I bought it stock with a 20 inch bar... It is going to a 24 inch bar for Christmas... I also have a Dolkita (Dolmar Makita) 6100... I love both saws... Each has its own purpose... The Dolkita has the easiest way to do a chain Swap i have not had the ability to do a swap on a Stile daw... Toooooo buzed to fight auto correct 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Cool vids as always! Would love to see how the echo would do against a 630 Johnny or maybe 162se. Or maybe a closed port cylinder on the 61?? Doesn't matter I enjoy all the vids anyway.👍
Do you still have the Jonsered 2153? I’d be interested in it if you do and it’s for sale. I’m in Alabama in between Birmingham and Montgomery.Great video btw. I have an Echo 590. I like it a lot. I like my Jonsered 2260 a little more though.
@@novicelumberjack sounds good! I have a few saws I might lend to some wack off videos. I’m not too far away. Probably 3 hours maybe or so. For around $420 you WILL NOT find a better built farm/ranch saw or one with that much torque. My buddy bought an MS391 for $579 that is 64ccs and it got it’s ass handed to it by a CS590 at 59.8 ccs. The only problem with these are that you are limited to bar selection by the funky bar mount that they use. They actually use a large Husky mount on the new 7310 and I hope they follow suit with the smaller saws. Another thing about the Echo 50-60cc class is that they are non strato ( which is better in every way) but the mufflers are way too choked up even by today’s standards. After a muff mod and retune they are a totally different saw.
I wish Echo would have used the large husky mount on the 590 like they did on the 7310, the 590 mount is a Oregon D176 (McCulloch mount) dropped a Sugi on a 590 and was a direct fit.
Plus, the 455 rancher is already more expensive than the Echo 590. If anything, the 460 rancher should go against the Echo 620. And it would probably really lose then.
@@novicelumberjack The 620c is considered a Pro Saw (See their website) so It would have to go up against a 555 or 562 Husky ,I agree, with You, For The $$$ the Echo is a better deal Than Husky New
Jeeze man, um...sorry? Didn't mean to disappoint you. I guess next time I'll run it past you before I make the video. You're welcome for the free entertainment. 😉
A buddy got really upset he paid a bunch of money to mod a ms 461 lol and my stock 590 keeps up with it 😂😂 but im pretty sure they just hacked his muffler up and sent it back to him and he wont file a chain so i sharpened both and made him watch lol he was a tad upset
