As mentioned before, with having to restrict flow to meet government regs, it's understandable that they have to build the mufflers the way they do to pass inspection.... That being said, it would be super nice if they would put a knockout plug (like a metal electrical box) to make it quick and easy for the end user to get the designed performance out of the saw 😁
As nice as that would be, the government doesn’t want you to modify anything for better performance, as the excuse of emissions/ and or safety, so manufacturers leave this opportunity alone for the end user, and a lit of these mods will void warranty! The cs590 has a five year warranty! So when I mod mine, it will be done on a second muffler!😂
This is a great series on the 590. I bought a 590 a couple of years ago and just did a muffler mod to it right away and found out that it was a major hold back of power. I like the results so much that I ended up selling my Stihl MS360 and keeping the little echo. Keep up the good info sharing 🤙
@@Tatted_gunna I did something very similar to what Tinman has done. Cut open the exit hole and then I went in with a drill bit to punch a bunch of holes in the baffling. It has been awhile but I think that was what I did to open up the muffler on the 590.
Perfect for video it seemed to be easier for you than having to move in closer and check for being in frame! With all the regulations manufacturers have to comply with restricted mufflers are to be expected. I agree wholeheartedly with porting and getting more fuel in will obviously cause more heat and it needs more space to exit. Looking forward to this build. I’m especially interested in where the high jet ends up afterwards. I’m guessing a turn and an eighth. Thanks for taking the time to video this.
hey my friend great video !!! just an FYI, when putting your burr into your foredom or dremil . push the shank all the way in . then just pull it an 1/8 of an inch out and then tighten it . this will prevent bending the shaft as it did, or even breaking it. just a little tip that was pointed out to me by fellow wood carvers ,that helped me out a lot . love your vidios man , keep on sharing your knowledge and what you do !
I had to go to the non-bypass main jet just to get it to 2 stroke at 8 thousand feet. I have a 620p and a 600p plus I rebuilt two 590s. Did the carb jet replacement on all of them. I also found with stock porting at altitude, it really lost torque if I tuned it for high rpm. They like to be a bit rich. Echo makes a nice saw. I love that almost all of the screws are the same and you can pull the carb in about 2 minutes. Snug the screws only, no cranking them down or they will strip out. Parts are expensive as well, a negative. Bar sizes are goofy stock too.
Throttle response seems to be snappy! Never owned echo anything, but I’ve heard that they have come a long way from what they used to be! Loving the build series brother. Thanks for taking us along fir the ride
Really, echo has always made quality products. Now,with their chainsaws people are starting to realize you get a lot of saw for the money. Their saws are getting better and better though. I used to run nothing but Stihl trimmers now it’s all Echo.
I just started modding my 590, watched all your videos about the saw. My first mod was swapping out that semi fixed high jet, coupling that with a muffler mod and unlimited coil. I'm going to get it into wood for tuning soon. I'm excited for the results.
I just did a bunch of work to my echo thank you for the content tinman helped alot I gotta say my 620 p far better then the 562 now it is a torgue monster now base delete ported muffler mod and stoekel stack air filter and it's a dream now
Really like how you chose to do the muffler mod as it keeps the spark arrestor in use. Like the new camera view set-up as well. Once ported this 590 will definitely out-perform a stock 562. I noticed you didn't show or mention blowing/washing out the metal shavings from the modded muffler. Pretty much a given for the experienced, not so much for a newbie. Love this series on the 590. Huge Echo fan myself... 501P and 620P in my stable.
Haven't had a tank ran through my cs590 and already sent it to Iowa Performance Saws for a muffler mod and tune removing the limiters and getting it back Tuesday, I can't wait for it to get here to see how it runs now
Enjoying this echo journey 😁 dont care for opinions but my humble assessment you present a very good explanation an illustration tutorial and admire that you seem to care that folks actually learn something . Tip my Resistol , Tinman
Same way I do them. Tip on your grinder if you're using it hung right there you're gonna burn cables up. Hang it from the ceiling. Took me about 5 cables to learn that 😂
I really enjoy your 590 videos, I've been working one professionally now coming up on 5 years (semi-retired tree surgeon on a budget) and beaten the heck out of it over the years, it works wood 3 and 4 times the size its designed for. Never tried to mod it, just run the 24 bar on it and kept it stock but going to give the mod a try. BTW, you asked about the new camera angle, I can't see what you're doing most of the time because its facing you so everything you're doing is blocked by what you're working on. Just fyi. Thanks again for doing these 590 videos, they're great.
Oh heck yeah Tinman. I love it. That Muffler is built alot like the one on my 570 husky. That echo is much easier to mod than the husky. That is a sweet mod and a big help. Thank you buddy. Oh yeah great video I love the new bench. Great job. 🌲❤🌲✊🪓
Great job bud. Interesting seeing what it did letting it breath. I think all saws are restricted way to much in the muffler. As always WORK SAFE!!!!😎🇨🇦🇺🇸
Also glad to hear you mention atomization an swirl . You would make money if you found a universal way of introducing swirl to carb venturi or immediately after for chainsaws
Awesome to see the progress you have made! been awhile since I've watched but I love to see you working and growing still! you and Billy are the reason I bought 5 old homelites last winter and brought them out of their graves!
I hogged mine out quite a bit more aggressively, and I washed it out with soap and water befor running it as it had alot of shavings trapped in it I didn't want going back into the motor
I just played with the dremmel today. Opened up some holes in the muffler for my poulan farm hand 295. 🤪 What a difference. It's simple. Air is lazy. I'm a tool and die maker by trade. I had my fair share of porting and cleaning heads for the car scene.
What I had done with mine was cut open a small spot on the bottom of it, that allowed us to get inside and totally gut the internals, then closed it up. Then welded the existing outlet on the top closed, and then drilled two holes off each corner 3/4 inch and brazed 2 3/4 inch pipes. Looks like a dual port husky muffler now. And it flows now and my 620 absolutely rips., I did what you did first, just drilled out that area and I felt I lost too much bottom end. Too little back pressure. But it still ran good. But not nearly as good as this. The other option Tinman is to weld the existing outlet up, then drill and tap the deflector off the front. Of the muffler. And gut the internals.
Just recently bought a cs590 Timberwolf and before breaking it in I sent it to Iowa Performance Saws for a muffler mod and a tune. Can't wait to get it back next week
Just subscribed. I have a Echo CS-590 for my cottage property. I use it for about 2 weeks of the year, hard, to cut the 4-5 cords of rounds I need (split later) to get me through the winter. Its a great saw. I love it. I do notice that when used that hard, it gets hot, but I just stop working and carry out the rounds while it cools. I'll watch all your CS-590 mods and see if I can get it to work even better.
Good move. I got my cs600 hot buried in some massive wood and wasn't savvy enough to slow down. But on the bright side, I discovered Tinman while I do the cylinder and piston rebuild!😂
I freakin love the tuxedo shirt coming out to party!!! With the extra torque you can know drag your file across those rakes 4-5 more times, right? LMFFAO!
Cool and easy mod! With an better cuttingspeed and Sound. I'm also very curious about the effect of the of the timing advance when it is done! Thx Tinman!
It sounds like that carb likes to fuel. Thats a beautiful thing considering she's gonna eat more of it when you open up those lower transfers and get her turning a few grand more on the rippems!
I'm still tuning on my 590 I just ported an I tride a red barn popup but it's a heavy piston I think I wuda Ben better off cuting base an makeing a popup out of my stock piston. At wait to see that one ported
Trigger respons is great...big improvement...I cut at 8to 10k feet in the rockies...need to find out how to get that deal on my dolmar and husky Grest video!
Curious, what were the cut rpm's with the bolt on mods and muffler mod when it achieved 3.5-3.6 sec cuts? Super curious what rpm gains brought it more in line with the 562. Thanks.
Tin man I have to husky saws An older 55 and a new 460 Rancher I thought the newer saw would run away from the old 55. But it’s kinda doggy. The old 55 starts every time runs great for a bone stock saw and I just love it Is there any hope to make that new 460 a peppier saw. So disappointed!!! Thank you Andy from Indiana.
Always appreciate you shop talk Tinman! Hey, with that mod is there any concern for short-circuiting from the muffler inlet to outlet? Would you have done anything differently?
